Ion on Shadowland Loot

I don’t understand how they can’t comprehend that their is a middle ground between the over loot of BfA and what we have now .

I mean yeah I want my loot to be meaningful as in I want it to drop just one way and not worry if it is going Warforge , Titanforge or even Brainfartforge.

I don’t expect loot every boss but maybe have a way to roll for an item on a boss that doesn’t drop something besides gold .

Working as intended

I must agree that reading the interview its not even Ion thats annoying, its the interviewer. Hes acting like Shadow lands is this amazing expansion and has completely revived the game.

So many people fall into this trap. WoD had amazing launch numbers and then dropped afterwards and was considered a failure.

I would agree SL better than BFA, but it still has the same design flaws BFA had, only not as obnoxious. I fail to see where everyone is saying how great it is. A few loyalists sure, but that’s about it.

This again design philosophy of not giving players what they want. They want to remedy the situation in a convoluted not fun extremely annoying way so it appears like its a challenge.

They will never give meaningful loot. Because in their confused brains, once you get loot, you wont play. Which is really a r -way of thinking but they prefer to frustrate you than give you a clear path to fruition.

Idk what he mean’s by “more control” over my path to loot. If you want a decent number of things to pick from you have to do everything. Which I was doing. And then I still got the same crap with bad stats, and duplicates.

So, grind grind grind, get no loot, and that hope you don’t get screwed by the “Great” vault. But likely you will.

How much further can you get your head up your own behind Ion?

Yes. This. And then I would have “more control” over my gear path.

We can both be happy, Ion. If in fact you want me to have more control. Which I sincerely doubt.

in b4 fbi shows up in thread to flag your post.

FYI That research is not possible in 1 life time.

I’m collecting bans at this point. It’s more fun than the game.

Just so you know, that info is a lie.
patch is not out till April at minimum, so its not spring but summer.

Not invalid, just stupid. You know what actually matters in terms of loot? The cosmetics. Next patch it’s all invalid anyways. Instead of making the game about loot, it should be about the actual game play and having fun.

Loot and gear scaling insane variations from LFR-Mythic or Challenger-Gladiator is one of the reasons this game just bleeds subs every expansion until we’re left with nothing but sellers and buyers. It works fine for Activision cause they actually make more money with people purchasing tokens for runs but in the long run it’s slowly going to make the game nothing but buyers and sellers of raids, M+, or Arena carries. If you can’t afford to buy runs, or aren’t a good enough player to do the highest M+, PvP, or Raid content this game just isn’t for you anymore. It’s kind of crazy how the game that broke the hardcore mold of MMOs is slowly becoming a game only for the hardcore, and those willing to pay the hardcore to funnel them loot.

Personally I don’t see how they can be happy with PvP gearing when PvP should be the one part of the game where PvP gear should be equitable for everyone participating. Obviously none of their higher ups actually play any kind of competitive game, be it WoW or something else.

For example, I know they are different games, and someone will inevitable point out “WoW IS AN RPG”, but imagine in League if Diamond players had items that preformed 15% better than a Bronze player. You’d never see lower ranked players trying to queue up with their higher ranked friends when they end up in games where people just preform 15% better dmg or healing because of the items they can buy. WoW really isn’t that much different when you go into the instanced game modes that they keep trying to push as Esports than a MOBA like League. Balance matters, and this game is an unbalanced mess because of gear, spec balance and to a lesser extent the borrowed power systems.

Sadly Blizzard’s track record over recent years when it comes to balancing this stuff is abysmal as well so there isn’t much hope anything will improve over the life of SL. Like I get they have even tried over the years to improve PvP with Templates in Legion. which sucked cause people enjoy customising their secondary stats. Or the invisible scaling in BFA, which sucked cause people don’t like hidden systems making calculations they can’t figure out on the fly and a lack of any kind of power scaling.

MoP and WoD had the best PvP gearing imo. In MoP it was just a straight conquest grind, no rating required for PvP sets. Sure Mythic raid gear was a higher ilvl, but resilience made it so your PvP gear was ultimately better in PvP than any PvE gear you could get. WoD changed it up by having a scaling gear system that made PvP gear even better than Mythic raid gear and scaled to even higher ilvls in PvP settings. The rewards for high rating were custom PvP enchants and at least in season 1 of WoD totally unique and awesome PvP sets. Both of these systems where PvP gear was a static ilvl, crappy for PvE but the best for PvP would of been much better than their current system.

If they really want to reward PvPers with gear that works in PvE as well after having PvE gear be some of BiS gear for PvP over the past 2 expansions that’s fine. Keep the upgrade system in place where an 2200 rated player gets 226 gear. They should of never given 2400 players 233 weapons though, and all PvP gear should work like WoD. Honor gear could scale up to 213, and conquest scales up to 226 in PvP combat, and all instanced PvP game modes, while at this same time scaling down any gear higher than 226 to that ilvl. This way PvP gear works in all game modes at whatever ilvl you can upgrade it to based on rating, but when you use it to PvP, against other PvP players you’re on an even playing field. Something we haven’t had for a very long time.

This current system only works for the hardcore, or those willing to pay for carries.

They’ll just repeat the same steps they did last time.
‘‘Let loot be loot’’.
‘‘Add badges’’
‘‘Take away badges, add thunderforging’’
‘‘take away thunderforging, add wf’’
‘‘add tf’’
‘‘add corruptions’’

rinse and repeat.

Posts like there are beyond irresponsible.

Like we’ve seen what they say and what they do. Your white knighting gets you no where.

He’s right.

Add in scaling anima to M+ and boost the +10-+15 ilvl rewrds. Also add a currency system ala valor points for raids and M+. Do NOT increase the # of items dropped.

Blizzard’s idea of players having more control over loot means a keyboard and mouse so you can constantly log in and control your character until loot finally drops .

Blizzard’'s idea meaningful : after days and possibly weeks of getting nothing that one measly peace you get with wrong stats will mean something.

Not for this game. I’d love to see Ghostcrawler back and that says a lot.

Absolutely agreed.

That’s funny. Because he couldn’t even balance a bicycle. The game need better “number guys” that aren’t interested in profit.

No, the lead developer should be the voice of it’s fanbase and listen to their desires, needs, wants, and proactively pursue them. While I understand there will always be those who are in opposition to everything the majority wins. Obviously, the majority is displeased with the direction of the game and it’s current state. Some remain in hopes that by some miracle things will change. That is a variation of “Stockholm syndrome”. We stay/keep coming back to our metaphorical abusers in hopes that things will change for the better.

If you want an idea of how well things are going right now… it’s not even two months in yet and my server is already cross realmed into Hyjal for SLs content. Took nearly five months for that to happen in 8.3.

Apparently the priority for something that would be an easy fix (adjusting currency) is “not anytime soon”. In other words, working as intended.
