but we think we can do more to make the experience of running dungeons and raids feel more satisfying when you don’t get a specific item you were hoping for.
Just buff anima drops. Literally that’s it. Keep normal at 35, buff Heroics to like 75-125 (equal to most World Quests), make Mythic 0 100 anima, with each key increasing that number by 15 (M1 = 115, M2 = 130, etc)

I must not be remembering correctly, I thought you had to have the tier gear from dungeons first then get the badges from raids to upgrade it to the next tier. And with the sat bonuses it was very good gear.
Tier tokens existed but were dropped in raids. They might have changed something later in WotLK but I didn’t play that long…in the beginning though, no. It was similar to BC badge gear.

You did daily heroics for badges which you used to purchase tier gear, and as I remember you would get a token from raids to upgrade that tier gear to the next tier
I have absolutely zero recollection of being able to purchase literal Tier pieces with justice/valor badges in WotLK.
Badge system was a good design that encourages you to continue running content with your friends, and for higher ilvl players to actually DO content that would otherwise drop them nothing usable.
As it stands now I simply stopped doing M+ because its terrible.

Well, at the cost and with the cap, it took 2-3 weeks per piece. That’s a long time for a full set, and very little of it was BiS stuff, it was just a really good supplementary system.
Also, this system was prominent when the game was at the highest sub count in its history. End of BC, all of Wrath and a bit of Cata.
Give me something constructive to work toward that’s valuable and I’ll keep working on it. If I finish a character, I’ll work on another one. When I have tangible goals I stay subbed, even if one character feels complete.
If I log in and feel like I’m not getting anywhere, that every single valuable thing is locked behind RNG, or that the reward structure isn’t something that I can form direct goals with, then that’s when I stop playing.
Like right now. This is the second time I’ve ever taken a break from the game in the first patch and I’ve been active on and off for the last 15 years.
I’m a goal-oriented gamer. I need to have something to log in and play for specifically, and I’ve never enjoyed gambling.

I feel like people misremember badge gear. Badges only covered a few slots, and functioned more like catchup than anything else.
Upgrading gear with valor was way better.
You can still go look at the loot tables in old Dalaran, or the vendors in the middle of Orgrimmar or SI:7 in Stormwind.
Yeah they didn’t gear out an entire character from head to toe, but they provided a lot of options to play with if RNG isn’t in your favor.
One feature in Wrath (IIRC) was that you could trade one of the big currencies for the other. I forget if it was PVP -> PVE, or PVE -> PVP, or both, but it was certainly a versatile currency and the ability to supplement your character’s progression with items you could choose directly felt great.
But I’ll agree, upgrading gear felt really good too. But didn’t they add both systems to PVP this expac?
They had a perfect opportunity to make dungeons and raids award anima if someone didn’t get loot. Anima is needed for covenant sanctums and tons of cosmetic rewards.
Unfortunately, it’s only in raids and only 35 anima, which is nonsense. It’s just like when it used to award like 30 gold. NOBODY CARES.
How about it Blizzard? 250 anima per raid boss when you don’t get loot; 70 anima per dungeon boss for same.

Seems more like an article falsely hyping the expansion in the hope to get more subscribers. 2 questions is not what I’d consider an interview. Didn’t really learn anything new from reading this other than Blizz is still delusional.

Anyone else a bit tired of the same overused card:
“wE CaN AlWaYs Do MoRe”
Like you do or you don’t. Obviously they choose not to.
They doubled down this expansion with catch up being also tied to RNG.

I think one solid fact you can take away from this article is that they are committed to the directed vs. loot shower approach, and I commend them for that. But we’re still at the mercy of RNG.

This, is exactly what I felt reading the article. the writer seemed like he didnt want to say anything mean or offend BLIZZARD.

Currently, when Blizzard (Ion rather) thinks, it’s dangerous to the community.

Cause getting 35 anima all the time (which is useless) just to grind for 1 vault selection at the end of the week, really takes the randomness away, he has got to be out of his mind.
But I can pvp mindlessly and get 200+ upgrade ilvl for pvp.
The way this company has decided to murder raid/mythic + gearing while killing mythic + keys for melee just goes to show you have out of touch they are with the game.
Also Torghast/Maw still suck

If only Blizzard had 16 years of experience on handling loot and didn’t try and reinvent it every 2 years.

blizz seems to be treating the game as a social experiment to maximize revenue at the expense of releasing a product that ppl actually want to play
i barely log in and sincerely regret getting a 6 month sub
