He got a lot of flak back in the day. But even back then, I actually liked the designs he and the rest of the team put out. And he was much more direct and transparent with the players (remember the dev water cooler?)
I actually do miss him. Though I’m interested to see his work on the LoL MMO whenever that releases (I’ll likely give it a try and keep playing WoW as well).
Why do people keep saying bring back valor points. This basically got you the normal mode ilvl raid gear. Do you think that would really be helpful when people are looking for higher ilvl gear now.
“We think we can make it feel more rewarding when you don’t get a piece of loot you were hoping for.”
Oh really? You can think of a way to make loot feel better when 2 pieces drop for like 20 ****ing people? Is that why they pay you the big bucks?
I’m convinced Blizzard goes out of its way to create problems for itself just so they can solve them later and hit some homes runs off a t-ball stand when it comes to their x.1/x.2/x.3 patches.
Well, they are probably thinking that you could upgrade gear a couple of times, which has been the case in the past. There weren’t as many tiers for most of that period, but basically I could spend my valor on whatever tier gear I had, to increase its item level.
That’s one thing that valor was used for.
Some of the points raised are basically what led to war/titanforging and artifact power originally: a desire to be able to give players gear rewards more often + small incremental power increases.
I don’t know what they have in mind this time around. Maybe some sort of currency and a vendor.
LOL - this is amazing. I love it and can see how they would do something like this. It’s like ensuring your own job security.
Dude. Accepting this and not walking away from the dumpster fire (given your remarkable and almost unbelievable tale of woe) … is not something anyone should tolerate.
RNG without RNG protection is STUPID. Especially when they likely do something so asinine as base your rando seed on your player id or worse, the character id. I swear this must be the case… I have toons that are stupid lucky and some that are barren. RNG is NOT RNG. There are factors that make it slightly better for players and Blizzard needs to implement more of them.
Ion - this is a ridiculous statement. Clear goals at a reduced rate that still employs RNG does NOT guarantee loot and satisfaction. Reduced rate of earning item rewards is lawyer speak for “makes you play longer without giving you more diverse content” - plz enjoy.
Anyone hanging around these forums during Legion and BfA would have seen multiple threads at any given time lamenting the RNG of titanforging, and longing for the days when loot was loot, you could target your BiS item, and when it was easy to tell what raid tier a player had completed by looking at their gear.
Also: titanforging is just a ploy to get people to play longer by chasing additional random upgrades.
Many of these discussions really are cyclical.
None of the statements are ridiculous in light of that. He’s basically just repeating what players said for years.
Not to say that I would be against some sort of currency and a vendor, but those are almost the exact words that players used for years to argue that removing titanforging would be better.
You are not the only one, on my first account I made Commander rank and that means precisely nothing now because stuff changes, 16 years of stuff and we should not be going back to where we were 16 years ago.
I disagree. I have plenty to do outside gearing up or raiding. You just don’t want to do things outside the expansion. It’s the expansion launch at that. Sounds like you need a break or goals outside of gearing.
loot is way too sparse. I’m not going to do all this grinding again for any other characters so they’re all stuck around 190-200 and I have no drive to push. I’m at the point of doing 1-4 runs per week and just waiting. This sucks. Why would you make the Vanilla Diablo 3 mistake again? People want !@#$ing loot. They will play the game after they get the loot if the fights are fun. It’s that simple.
I push plenty outside raiding, every week I have 7+ loot chances at the vault, aside form this week as I have not had time to raid.
But the biggest guaranteed upgrades for me at this point is PVP, I suck at PVP and struggle to get to even 1400 rating let alone 1600 or higher and since I am now 209 iLVL on my main spec I actually just have to run higher and higher M+, but even than M12-14 only offers 207 gear.
Since M12-14 offers only 207, a 1400 rating offers me 207, for my main spec that is literally 5 total pieces of gear I need. I am better just running 4 x M10 for the week and ignoring the M+ grind and just taking whatever the vault gives me. Especially considering the complaints about how tanking is and that everyone is needing to run M+ at a higher iLVL than it even drops it really is not worth the effort running more than what the vault offers with M+ anymore.
And it’s worse with raiding, sure I am now raiding heroic, but that 5 pieces of loot for 30 people, oh yeh, best loot ever! I am now already at the point where I am focusing more on PVP than PVE for 2 reasons, hoping to raise my rating and because it’s more fun than M+.
Ion - “We didn’t really like reforging because you would just go to a website and check what stat you needed, then reforge to your best stat.”
WoW players now - Go to website to sim, check every piece of gear they get, and don’t even bother equipping at all it if it has the wrong stat on it anyway
Looks like that logic backfired on him, yet he won’t admit it.
I’m okay with the pace of gearing but I think a lot of people aren’t and they’re getting discouraged and fewer are signing up for raids because progression is so slow. We do the same couple bosses each week and then get stuck and stop. At this rate it will be multiple weeks of chance to get past the next progression boss.
I think the amount of loot that drops is alright. My beef is with m+ IL.
Something like Valor points could serve as a way to purchase gear as well as upgrading it, akin to what honor/conquest does in PvP. You can even lock the higher IL upgrades to M+ key clears.
They need to stop going from one extreme to another. Stop with the over loot of BfA and the shortage of loot in SL.
Do a slight increase in loot drops make any dungeon content or at least heroic at the lowest but I would say mythic 0 get gear from the great vault if enough are ran.
I say mythic 0 for the vault because LfR earns gear there.
Bring back bonus rolls and finally increase the amount of anima
The real problem isn’t the scarcity: It’s the ilvl… at least from M+
I can spam M+ if I’d like but 210 ilvl is just awful. I’ve got 3 toons sitting at 220+ right now from PvP and Raid (mostly pvp) so why would I do M+ except to chase specific items from my great vault?
The great vault is still extremely random since the loot pool is massive, and some garbage 210 ilvl from a +15 is almost always worthless.
