This, right here? This NEEDS REPAIR, Blizzard. This is NOT an unreasonable response from a player who cares about this game. YOU did this. You tell us no. You tell us that we DONT KNOW WHAT WE WANT. You insult us behind our backs to one another. You insult us to our faces on Twitter. You’re surprised when you get vitriol in turn.
This is NOT how you do customer service. A fast food chain or ice cream shop could handle HOW TO ADDRESS A PAYING CUSTOMER than you do.
Ion recently said “The game belongs to the players.” and that it’s the devs’ job to take care of it and the players.
PRIORITY ON PLAYERS. If WHAT THE PLAYERS WANT is CONTRARY to what YOU want for the game, guess what? It’s OUR GAME. It BELONGS to US. You just said so. Give up your ideas that are DIRECTLY CONTRARY to what we want.
We ordered a straight up pepperoni pizza, not a tofu and mushroom pizza with olive oil and garlic sauce and no cheese and shaved truffles on top, and we DON’T CARE if everyone WORKING at the pizza shop thinks the tofu and mushroom is “obviously a better pizza everyone SHOULD be eating.” Do not TRY to GIVE us a tofu pizza instead of the pizza we ordered. We LIKE pepperoni. Keep your nasty mushrooms, smile as you give us our pepperoni pizza, and do your best to keep us coming back for pepperoni pizza.
I remember a Dev interview a while back (and I know I mention this every chance I get) wherein it was revealed to us that WRATH OF THE LICH KING was the team at large’s LEAST FAVORITE EXPANSION. Guess what? We don’t CARE if you liked it. (But the patch with the mandatory specs and lfg was total BS) We loved Wrath. Just like we loved Vanilla and BC. Then someone over there went off the deep end and you started systematically dismantling everything that made Vanilla, BC, and Wrath a GREAT time for the playerbase. (And somehow dismantled it by changing and ADDING systems).
Give us straight up points to buy gear we PICK again, give us tier tokens again. Give us random drops again with ONE or TWO legendaries out there somewhere that have heck all chance to drop. Give us fully fluid fully fleshed out talent trees again and let us be rainbow bright again IF WE WANT TO BE and give us a new talent and spell and LET our spellbooks bloat and DONT MESS WITH IT. Making it harder to “screw up” by narrowing choices down to “no real choice at all” obviously didn’t fix anything and I dont know how you still dont see that.
This is suspicious. They don’t have to show us any of the workings of this council. No one has claimed to be invited yet. This whole thing reminds me of my mom saying “don’t worry we will visit it again on our way out” while secretly hoping I would forget about it.
All I know is there will be a council. However representatives are chosen by them and results don’t have to be seen by us.
What we have is a fancy door plaque to a empty room.
Shouldn’t the forums been used for this all along?
Yep. Listing end-game content achievements as a prerequisite for teaching new players about the game, was not a requirement I was expecting. How about Loremaster (2011)? How about the Seeker achievement (2011)? How about Quintessential Quintet (2012)? Double Agent (2012)? Ya know, things that imply a player has explored the early game pretty well. Nope - need a raid achievement.
It is a bit early for them to have announced anything. I’m sure they are giving it time to gather applicants.
For sure, but it would be impossible to get the kind of focused back and forth feedback they claim they are looking for on the forums as is.
We’re just in those tough, in-between days where everything happening regarding the council is still done behind closed doors. Give it a week or two and we’ll see. They may be waiting to open it up in tandem with 9.2 ptr.
This is a fair point- the forums are someplace that often the loudest voices create an “artificial majority” - JUST like streamers, honestly. They know how to sound more passionate, they have more time on their hands to post, and they react the most negatively when things dont go their way.
Just like streamers, these voices do an important PART in keeping a pulse on the game, but just like the streamers, they ALREADY HAVE a platform and they know how to use it. We’ve been pointing out that the forums exist to Blizzard, but we might not have been considering that the majority of forum users- artificial and actual LIKELY DO NOT represent the different facets of the player base in equal, adequate fashion.
RPers have been invited to apply. Alt levelers have been invited to apply. The sheer number of selectable gameplay styles in the application form honestly kinda astonished me. If representation of these play styles is divided as evenly as possible and that RESULTS that each of ONLY A FEW players for each play style have been thoughtfully selected, we SHOULD see a forum with all viewpoints who want to weigh in on an issue they feel impacts their play style actually being heard.
(On the other hand moderation will have to be TIGHT because I sense these people “stuck in a box” together might knock heads pretty hard when they passionately disagree.)
Sorry I did not get to this sooner. You were wondering what happens to MVPs in game and why I might not use my main as my posting char.
I have been an MVP since 2013 (Tech/Customer Support, D3 Community MVP, WoW Community MVP 2018) and have to tell people things they don’t like to hear on a regular basis. I do so not just here, but on the other game forums too where I post with my Battletag.
I have never been harassed in game or on Bnet. I don’t even get Bnet friend requests to speak of. I also would not accept them if I don’t recognize the poster/Btag as a person who seems rational.
Blizzard gives us the tools to avoid harassment. I can decline a friend invite on Bnet. I can /Ignore someone in game or not group with them.
Why do I post on an alt then? Because Blizzard asked me to pick one Character as a Forum Posting char and stick with it. My mains change from expansion to expansion but my posting Char stays the same. I was also afraid back in 2013 that being green would lead to harassment and wanted to just avoid issues that might impact my in-game activity. I did not want to be bothered and did not want my guild bothered. Most of my guild (back when it had real people in it) never knew I was a forum MVP. It was not relevant and I never mentioned it.
I think the reason I don’t get too much grief is because people realize I am here to answer things for PLAYERS. I don’t make the rules, game, or anything else. I can’t talk to Devs. I can make sure the players have some sort of communication and information though, so I do. Sharing info does not mean I agree with that info - just that I make sure others have access to it.
I don’t have access to Blizz devs, don’t control anything, and can’t change anything. Yelling at me would be pointless. Might as well yell at a mouse.
That is the BIG question. Blizzard has a long long history of not listening and not communicating. It would even be fine if they said “we find X interesting but don’t feel it fits because of Y reason”. That is FINE and actually helps people fine tune ideas that may be better suited to both the Dev’s vision AND what players want. There can be a compromise.
Will they actually make this Council different though? I think that is what everyone is waiting to see, with a healthy amount of skepticism.
They need to add a downvote for the council. Their opinions may or may not be inline with the player base. This would allow us to have some input. I mean IDK why the Forums was not good enuf. When blizzard ignore post with thousands of replays against some change that should have been all that was needed to act on. Like the PvP gearing ATM.
They have not given any indication about when they might announce selections. I would anticipate it being a while. They likely have many applications.
Your option for that is to read the Community Council forum then make a thread on the main forums here (or whichever forum is related to the topic). You can give your opinion there and discuss with other players. It is ok to say you don’t agree with someone on the Council and nobody will mute you unless you are being rude/insulting.
In fact I really hope the Council topics lead to some good open forum discussions.
Imagine being part of this Comunity Council that will serves nothing but a echo chamber with only blue haired ppl, massaging each others ego, deciding what is wrong thinking, what is right or wrong, turning women into bowl of fruits.
Just so in the end when everything goes wrong blizzard can backstab the council and blame them for everything wrong that comes out of it.
A downvote would be much much easier and a it’s a better option than your opinion. What they afraid of with a downvote, is that some sort of microaggression? If they can’t listen to forums now, what make you think they will later. The council going to be a bunch on collaborators that will tow the line afraid of losing some preserved power or honor. A HUGE circle jerk
