Introducing the World of Warcraft Community Council

If I see prominent twitch streamers or youtubers appear I’ll quickly lose interest and hope. Would be nice with some real people who play the game for fun and not trying to please their own audiences with memes and whatever.

Totally disagree. We want blizz to hear from common players. If common players are elected, and their accounts exposed to the public, they will NEVER be able to just play the game on that account, again.

If they’re cool with that, cool, but they should be able to opt into that, ESPECIALLY because of the way you just pre-judged that some of them might Have opinions that a majority of the userbase HATES (But that still deserves a voice). They cant just be exposed to hatred every time they log into the game like that.

The council should be anon when it’s established by default, and they should have the opt in to make themselves known.

All we really need to know is that they’re a fellow WoW player interested in X aspect of the game.

If people were designated as “RPer #1” and “Raider #6” and so forth the community could still give feedback on their feedback without knowing that they’re “this character On that realm”.

You are far more optimistic than I’ll ever be about this Council farce. Just look at these forums every day. Now condense them into a 100 person microcosm. You’ll get the same turd in a smaller toilet.

I applied to the Council only to find the last question asking me to link blogs, machinama (sp?), articles, etc., I’ve posted elsewhere. I had thought the Council might be composed of players and I might stand a chance. But sounds like you want influencers, rather than ordinary players to be on the Council. I don’t stand a chance. It’s weird considering that the company is having major PR problems with its playerbase.

Did you expect different from what is an obvious marketing and PR ploy?

That’s why I said opt in. Of course I believe if the council is just a bunch of hidden faces why would I trust it at all?

I could put all the WoW devs behind those blank faces and feign actual engagement. I don’t want to ruin anyone’s experience but I’m not going to have faith in the faceless either.

Pre judge? Hatred? Ok.

If someone has an extremely unpopular opinion why on earth are they representing the community? It was an example since players appear to not want things like insane grinds so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest someone wanting more grinds shouldn’t represent the community.

Of course that’s the same as the faceless thing, why should I or anyone else trust a council or players if their thoughts on changing the game are in the same direction the game is heading? Doesn’t seem too hateful.

That doesn’t do anything. If you are interested in raiding yet comment heavily on Mythic but only do LFR your opinions won’t be well backed up.

Similarly, if you don’t touch LFR how can you possibly have an opinion on what is and is not too hard, social dynamics, etc. in LFR and how to make it better?

You can trust in faceless labels, I will trust in players.

I would like to know what current MVP forum goers deal with if they post on their main character, what harassment they receive in game that makes the game unplayable for them.

Maybe Mirasol will weigh in on that. I notice they’re not posting on their main. MvP’s a different animal than what’s being proposed by this project though. It’s not like if an MvP says something that we all expect it’ll impact future game content.

I was thinking about this yesterday

How can’t the developers see and hear the metaphorical Train speeding down the track and they just keep standing their wearing a “Hit me baby one more time” T-shirt?

The CC is going to be a disaster, most folks have told Blizzard it will be a Disaster. Yet they still run towards a 85 ton locomotive with their arms spread wide.

I hate train wrecks.

I mean, they waited to pull the ripcord until the dude that is Shadowlands was already splattered all over the ground.

And he ain’t gonna jump no more.

Yea you got called out. Nice try. Where do I apply?

  1. I’m pretty sure no one but you believes SE is paying that guy. The forum MvP in this thread isn’t even use their main.
  2. I don’t care if they are. I’m sure that IF they ARE that they sent him along with real (apparently effective) pressure points to poke.
  3. Maybe we should worry less about what SE might be doing to sabotage WoW (besides make ff14 players happy in their own game) and more about what the devs and players are doing to sabotage WoW.

So this council is just a scapegoat for how bad the game is. Game sucks? Blame the Council.

Blizzard really are geniuses at this type of thing.

In theory, they could always you know…

Listen to the forums??

Or are they only listening to the Trust Level 3 people?

And I thought I had a skeptical restrained cynicism for a reaction.

No player I know of has ever criticized the members of the private focus groups who came forward about what goes on in those focus groups.

For your assumption to be right, they’d first have to LISTEN to this new focus group and do EVERYTHING EXACTLY as they say in order to shrug blame off ON TO the focus group. Their reputation in actuality is for IGNORING the feedback in the previous focus groups and badmouthing them to one another.

Could a bad idea come out of the council? Sure. Could good ideas come out of the council? Sure. Will Blizzard devs LISTEN to these ideas, be they good or bad? - jury’s still out.

IF Blizzard starts to have public discussions with this public focus group (all those little private conversation elements of it that they talked about MUST GO AWAY) and meaningful understanding and agreements are actually reached between them, the results have to be better than what we have. (Unless they DO recruit ALL yes men who will just shill in the forum for them…in which case feel free to blame both Blizz AND the council for what comes out of it.)

According to preach they have private forums where this happens already. and a discord.
And i thought making this public, was just a way to put the blame on the players when it doesn’t turn out right.

They’ve also had multiple councils like this one that have crashed and burned. (theres links with stories about at least one of them at the top of the thread here)

I think they’ve done this too many times and players are too saavy about it (becoming moreso thanks to preach) to fall for it if blizz tries to BLAME council members for any wildly disliked future content.

whats the point, you have not listened to your community in years, Do not see that changing

Were I being cynical I’d suggest this is to make it easier to not listen to the community.
Much simpler to not listen to a small community council than the entire congregation?

So, for those keeping track, the consensus on the CC is that Blizzard doesn’t listen to feedback, so they won’t listen to this feedback, but also they may, but only the bad stuff.

You really don’t need to be a paid actor to see how awful WoW is. I mean, it’s everywhere discussed and the only reason why something is changing is due FF14, the streamers and how upset everyone about Shadowlands is.

I really don’t think that SE needs to infiltrate people to make WoW worse. The WoW developers are their own worst (edit) enemy here with awful system ideas from people who harasses either the players on twitter or are just plain unfriendly. I think we all want new developers who are on the same level of quality as the FF14 ones. People who actually truly engage with the community and not just because they have to due the sinking boat.

Just look at Community Council recruitment video. It’s cringe. These people do not care for us, it’s all fake and you can feel it which bothers me so much. Where are these people? You guys are also reading here, yes? You’re fake. You can’t even engage with the community in your own forums and needed a private one. And you don’t do the old streams anymore (and to be honest, with the recent comparison videos I wouldn’t even watch it and how smug Ion Hazzikostas mocks the Alliance players). Seriously, who in their right mind would do this to a paying customer?

They have already plenty of feedback. Several wow developers are actually watching the big streamers, namely Asmongold, Bellular, Taliesin and Preach. They know exactly what people want and where problems are. They read these forums, otherwise the Alliance wouldn’t have gotten their High Elves. The bigger problem is that they don’t do this for the players but to save their own skin.

All of this is so infuriating.
