Introducing the World of Warcraft Community Council

take part in the program…

Being “angry” is cool. Blizzard could solve a lot by removing the like button, making people post with their b-net accounts only, and hiring 10-20+ extra moderators on the forum.

On reddit the kind of trolling common on the WoW forum isn’t tolerated as much.

woah reddit wrangles better than wow forum mods?

People who are passionate that blizzard has done nothing wrong in the design of this expansion do seem to feel that people who hold other opinions are inherently toxic for disagreeing with them.

I really don’t think that if they chose group members who uniformly feel that devs are doing a fantastic job and anyone who is unhappy with anything about the game is toxic would be able to provide useful insight about how the majority of the playerbase feels.

part of the program…

Nearly anything with dedicated mods does better. Blizzard has some folks who pull Forum Mod duty and respond to posts that are reported from ALL the forums. They don’t have someone who gets to know the individual game forum regs/trolls/contributors.

It serves to eventually catch the worst of the worst that gets reported, but does not actually provide tone or guidance that would result in a more constructive environment.

It does not help that those who are calm and/or constructive get called names by the “outrage” crew. Heaven forbid someone suggest something, answer a question, etc. without insulting the game company/dev/etc.

I will be excited to be selected  I can’t truly say I’m in the majority but I do feel anyone who played from Vanilla, BC, or Wrath is living different today than they were back then. We mostly all have families now and big boy jobs. Discussions with us can help continue to provide a game we can all enjoy on our own schedule.

thanks for the clarification Marisol

oof i don’t like the selected to the program part though

Nobody is “toxic” about being unhappy about the game.

It’s “toxic” when their only way is to provide feedback is to sling insults, bash the developers, and provide no constructive feedback at all.

It’s literally the difference between "I don’t like x system because of x, y, z and I think it would better if you did this … " instead of “Blizzard is a bunch of idiots and can’t do anything right. They need to go under so another company can make a better game. Also, click this youtube video of my favorite streamer bashing the game for 15 minutes.”

lol throw a rock and hit something wrong with game

and apparently there were a bunch of idiots at blizz

legally speaking

Hey there Barsky, I see you fairly regularly in epic BGs :stuck_out_tongue:

Small world…

do you go easy on me?

And there are plenty of posters on the forum who have told us that to disagree with them IS slinging insults, any criticism whatever of any feature in the game IS “bashing” devs, and that anyone who is not williing to write book-length posts solving all problems with the game is not being constructive.

Heck, there are several forum regulars who post attacking players with criticisms who say that replying to them to disagree is harassment and they will report this.

The game is sold on its emotional appeal. We got where we are because the red flags should have gone up when many players started to unsubscribe after saying “This is not fun.” To say those millions should rightly have been ignored because they are not articulate and analytical enough to analyze their own emotions is counterproductive.

They shouldn’t be, but they’re all it takes for Blizz to seemingly view us all collectively and in a negative view. Asmon is one guy who does make some great points, but they’re going to look past that because of how he presents them. Which leads me to the council: How much influence will they truly have and how well will they represent the community and their wishes? This is everyone’s concern right now because as Mirasol stated, it is a revamped idea. What if it does become that private club? That’s why I’m really wanting to see the Blizz employees talk here on the forums outside of simple announcements.

I’m not gonna blame Asmon or anyone for this one. That is completely on Blizz and is why the community feels the way they do about them. Forget the pro/anti “woke” arguments and what not. All of that valuable feedback only to be met with silence or, “We’re right and you’re wrong”…“You think you do, but you don’t” is completely toxic on their part. Top it off with mid patch and Ion doing his standard lawyer speak saying “We’re listening” and so on is coming off as another rinse and repeat cycle that a lot of us don’t want to keep hearing and seeing.

This is probably also going to be true, which again, is unfortunate.

It can be hard to do given the current state of the company. From the lawsuits to what’s happening in their games, people are past the point of trying to be cordial and respectful.

I will say you all do get a lot of unjustified hate.

This should be the standard.
