Introducing the World of Warcraft Community Council

Maybe.

Still though I am on the forums enough to know we hit the nail on the head quite a bit on Blizzard’s design issues.

I think they think they “know best” because they are game designers.

Yeah, but I’m a game player. 15 year vet no less, on this one game alone, that’s to say nothing for all the mmo’s I’ve tried that have come and gone, and the other genre’s. Can the devs say the same?

The community sized up conduit energy pretty much day 1. We had a massive post in the beta forums about the GV and how it worked well and didn’t. Plenty of youtubers did deep coverage of the PvP gearing system and the absurd costs to upgrade. Even the PvP vendor was a battle that went on for years, for some reason and I think we got some snarky remark about how we wouldn’t be able to find them.

I mean, I really hope this “council” amounts to something. However, given they could straight up get deep dives in video format from youtubers that have since left … I remain very skeptical.

Worth a shot I guess.

Well, I posted my short stories lol. 99% of my content is actually in responses. I don’t think my one YouTube music video is going to count.

Maybe that’s it. These content creators that have left created a vacuum. They need to pull from us. But truly, I’d say we are players not creators.

I hung my creator hat up long ago. I’d love to go back into that world, but I don’t have limitless time anymore.

My friends were pushing me into making youtubes of DIY map design, but I don’t have a fancy personality to go with it.

I play what I like… and I have evolved as Wow and Diablo evolved.

I think if you limit it to just forum viewers you will find you are missing out on a broader community. There are people who never come to the forums, but might show up in Reddit, Twitter etc. or they don’t frequent any of those places and just play the game.

I am not sure how I feel about the last question as I can easily see where it can be portrayed as looking at accomplishments, but I can think of a lot of contributions that the Warcraft community does daily, from answering questions to putting together fun events on their server or putting together AOTC runs which was how groups like Perky Pugs got started there are people who do that every day. The difference in responses on these forums to someone asking a question is night and day to many of the more controversial discussions. In this case, I’d encourage anyone that is interested to apply and share some good things, maybe you just helped someone get a mount or kill a boss and put a smile on their face. In the end, it’s worth a shot and maybe it will be more than it is.

I get why people are cautious. There has been a lot of things that just haven’t happened. Whether it is a bug that is still around that you know you reported in a beta to the most recent real life news cycle. There’s a lot of reasons to have doubt.

For me, in a little over 30 days, my sub will lapse for the first time in 13 years and all of these overtures are too late for me. That’s my choice and one that I did not make lightly as I have 13 years of fun and great memories. For those of you who are staying, I’d encourage you to give it a chance. There have been a lot of promising ideas and directions that have shown a desire to improve. It’s not too late for you all…meet them 1/2 way see what happens. You are still here for a reason

To Blizzard specifically, in my opinion some of the more recent changes, discussions and ideas were a long time coming, but they are great ideas and I hope to see them develop for all.

Eh…creators vs. players, a lot did both. They didn’t listen either way. Just to cite one, Stoopz did an entire video on the PvP upgrade costs (I think while beta) was active.

It still isn’t fixed in 9.1.5.

So if forum posts weren’t enough, video blogs weren’t enough … not really sure how to get the message across.

Some of them can, yes. Some of them have been gaming for a lot longer than you have.

I’ve been a gamer for 40 years. While I’m not a game DESIGNER, I’ve seen a LOT of games come and go, and I’ve seen what can and doesn’t work in a lot of different game types.

I don’t think so. There is a wide enough cross section right here on the forums that they could get the kind of feedback they need to make improvements.

Well I was talking about WoW’s history specifically, yes I have much greater than 15 years playing video games.

The point was, don’t just dismiss our feedback/criticisms as if we have no idea what we are talking about because we aren’t designers.

Makes me hopeful seeing this type of thing but time will tell. I hope the communication between the players and Blizzard leads to real changes that are good for most players.

Not every decision is ideal but the fact remains that the MT is returning. The rewards are almost a separate action. And who knows, they may change those at some point. What I said I stand by - I believe Blizzard employees observe and report on topics that have a solid number of posts and comments. Whether or not they choose to act on them, and how they do that, is something else.

I’ll wait and see what the Council have in store.

I am not a fan of this idea of only a select group of players talking to the developers…I mean I will apply I suppose and share my opinion on what I think if I get the chance…

But I acknowledge I am just one player, I know I am one of the few people that supports the changes in 9.1.5 but I know majority of people disagree with me, I’m not stupid.

So now instead of ignoring the whole community, they’ll just select a special few whose feedback will be ignored instead. Nice.

Can’t see it as a bad move. More humanity and making the bridge between community strong again.

Signed up. Probably won’t be added since I’m a nobody, but you live in hope XD I’m a hyper casual type player who is in it for the lore, outdoor content, exploring, and I constantly suckered in by all the new alternative gameplay back of the box features like Islands and Torghast and Mage Tower and Deaths of Chromie, and if I do get in, that will likely be where the majority of my stuff is focused around. I don’t particularly enjoy mythic+ or hardcore raiding, not that I hate those things per se, they just aren’t really what I’m playing for. I play for the story, the overarching and personal stories, but also for the fun little stuff and progression paths. I basically get my gear to the highest that outdoor content and minimal interaction with dungeons and raids can let me, and then I dive into the other things I can do. That’s what I enjoy, and if my feedback can make outdoor and side content more fun and enjoyable for others that like it (and allow people who don’t to interact with it as little as they please) then I definitely hope I’m chosen XD

Deaths of Chromie was my favorite, it didn’t care one whit about your player power and didn’t contribute to it in any way. It was just fun for its own sake, provided its own progression path, had its own reward, and was just…fun. You did it because you wanted to, and if you didn’t want to do it you were not punished at all for it. It was a better Torghast before Torghast was a thing and if Torghast was built on that same design philosophy, but then was allowed to grow into its own pillar of gameplay, expanded upon and allowed to flourish entirely independently of anything else…I feel like people would have loved it as much as they did back in Alpha even this far into the expansion, and we would feel the current content drought a lot less.

That’s my sales pitch XD Fingers crossed!

No doubt some intern keeps tabs on what’s happening in the forums. Which is entirely appropriate.

Doubt.

lmao.

hmm… can’t tell if this is just exclusivity for some people, in an excuse to ignore players even more, or if this is them making a hundred or so players into scapegoats when their ideas don’t pan-out…

How would we know that our suggestions won’t end up in the trash can? Will there be a metric of how many community suggestions are adopted?
