There are many of us who have not got this done, many who only went to the storm for the pets and heirloom item, and many who knew the lariat recipe was such a garbage drop rate it was never worth actually doing those achievements or farming for very long for any reason.
Now here we are, part of the meta achievement.
Any chance we could have this changed to a more frequent rotation and some sort of actual rotation? Currently it’s 3 hours between rotations and seemingly random.
Not only do we need to hope for the right zone, but we need to hope for the right one of four that we need to spawn. We have a 6.25% chance to get one of the ones we need, so if we miss it, we may never see it again for a long time.
I propose 1 hour between spawns, 2 up at a time, rotating between zones and storm type with an actual schedule of when they are up.
I don’t think many people would have thought these were going to be a part of the meta, maybe it was obvious to some, but with all the chatter I am seeing many of us simply didn’t do them until now because there was no real reason to do so.
And now with it seemingly being RNG, it’s going to be one of those frustrating things that people are going to miss simply because the RNG happened when they were asleep.
I agree, but just to be clear, the rng is actually a little better or a little worse than what you are describing here depending on which zone you are looking for.
There are 7 total storm locations with 4 possible elements.
There are 3 locations in Azure Span
There are 2 locations in Waking Shore
There is 1 each in Ohn’aran Plains and Thaldraszus.
That means instead of 6.25% chance to get any given storm, it actually depends on the zone.
Your chance to get a specific element in Azure span is 10.71%
Your chance to get a specific element in Waking Shore is 7.14%
Your chance to get a specific element in Ohn’aran plains or Thaldrazsus is only 3.57% each
Put a slightly different way,
The storm has a 42.86% chance to spawn in Azure Span with a random element.
The storm has a 28.57% chance to spawn in Waking Shore with a random element.
The storm has a 14.29% chance to spawn each in The plains or Thaldrazsus.
Source: I have not missed a single storm spawn since 10.2.6 launched and these percentages closely match with the spawn behavior we have seen since then. (Yes I wake up in the middle of the night to check, every 3 hours because I am a lunatic).
When it comes down to it, if your last storm for the achievement is in Thaldrazsus or the plains which it mostly likely will be. You could check 8 times a day 7 days a week and still only have an 86.94% chance of seeing the storm you need after sleep depriving yourself to an unhealthy degree. This is perhaps the most toxic achievement I have ever seen in this game. People that are comparing it to the RNG of the shadowlands achievement are not appreciating that the SL RNG was on a weekly basis which obviously sucked, but it didn’t require you to religiously check a spawn every 3 hours like this one does.
Big oof. I was there like man I got one region done and only need one more for the waking Shores, but I need two on the planes and four in the last one with those percentages looks like it’s going to be quite the painful grind.
My guild thought I was insane when I went chasing these achievements in 10.1 because I was gambling on them being part of the meta that would eventually get introduced. Who’s insane?? It’s still me 'cause I did them. It took a long time.
I doubt Blizzard will make things easier for players to get their meta achievement done because the way it currently stands, it requires players to be around more often and for longer periods of time.
The bad part about the storms meta is that the closer you get to being done, the less likely it is that the storm you want is gonna be the one that spawns.
