The quest is bugged on the “0/1 first rune drawn” step - after interacting with the highlighted object you should be teleported on top of the scroll and turned into a quill pen in order to “draw” with movement the pattern on the scroll.
Apparently what happens is you just get teleported and NOT transformed, with all movement locked and headstones/teleports loading in other locations halfway and then bringing you back into the same bugged position…
Because of this bug, it is impossible to finish the quest and unlock the profession recipe. This text was copied from the EU Forum (same issue)

I’m having the exact same issue as of today (October 15, 2020 @ 2:00 PM). All other questions have been fine for this chain, but as soon as I hit Brush With Death, my CHARACTER is teleported onto the scroll rather than converting into a “Quill Pen” as it sounds like should be happening and my Action Bars remain unchanged (normal). I’m unable to move or do anything with my character except spin in a circle. The only way out of it is to LOG OUT and back in, which resets the quest. But as soon as I try clicking on the quill again, the same thing happens and I’m locked onto the scroll unable to move.
I’ve tried zooming in, zooming out, disabled all add-ons, nothing is working…

I reinstalled the game and have the same results. Also tried the quest on beta and ptr with the same results.

Same. Get transported to the rug near the questgiver (book) and cannot move. Have to abandon the quest.

Glad to see it’s not just me. I think it might be related to a more general bug with vehicle action bars. When you become a pen your action bars should also change to a vehicle action bar. Other WQs and PvP instances where you jump into a vehicle are also failing to produce the vehicle action bar.

I am also having this happen to me, tried without addons and resseting the UI, nothing helps.
The character is teleported above the scroll and the vehicle ui does not trigger (the character does not become the quill).
This makes it impossible to continue with the questline and finish the Inscription Profession Quests

Same issue. Abandoning the quest allows you to no longer be in the pacified state.

Same issue on 10/22/20. Please fix this since it is a sequential questline. I cannot progress until this quest is completed. I reported it in-game as a bug, as well.

Having the same problem.
One thing I noticed was that logging out gave me the message “Calligraphy failed.” even though I never interacted with Nola nor accepted that insipid Tortollan WQ.
It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if the piss poorly designed Tortollan WQ is interfering with being able to complete this one.
I tried it also when the world quest wasn’t there and it still didn’t work.

Same here! BUGGED. Not transformed into a pen, cannot move and stand there like a goose. Can this please be fixed Blizz.

Update. I flew over there a minute ago. No they haven’t repaired the quest yet. Multiple people were at Sanctum trying to finish this, were unable to and expressing their dissatisfaction loudly.
