this is wrong, this only implies to pugs which is why they don’t like it.
Do you speak for all PUG players?
Of course not, I was speaking in a general sense.
And yes, there’s a small minority of pugs that might enjoy WG, but there are obviously way more pug players that don’t like it (self-explanatory with all the moaning/groaning in BG chat, the high afk-out rate, etc etc).
Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think gear should scale at all. Gear is gear, especially in War Mode. If Im being jumped by 3 people in War Mode with lower gear than me, I stand a chance because I have better gear than them, I can more easily win this 3v1 and its less about who has more people. Less zerg, the better.
Granted, I’m all for the thing they’re adding in 9.1.5, where players under a certain ilvl will be scaled to a minimum ilvl in battlegrounds. That’s a healthy change, and still encourages gearing.
if they are in PVE gear or are unoptimized, you would still stand a chance to go 1vX. the power gap between an optimized and nonoptimized toon is already high enough that we dont need an additional factor of gear.
if you scale everyone to the same ilvl in their bracket, then someone who is 252 will be scaled down, that won’t be very fun for him.if you scale everyone else up, then it balances the ilvl without taking power away from anyone.
the easy entry gold only cost on the honor gear means that players who want to try PVP wont be scared off by the ilvl scaling up on pvp. it also means you can easily jump in to pvp on a new alt and not spend weeks getting farmed.
one of the biggest complaints from players is that they have to do something they dont want to do in order to do something they want to do. be it grinding pve for vers or trinkets, grinding torghast, or grinding honor sets, or grinding rating, whatever it is, players are fed up, casuals in particular just want to log in, queue up, and play.
bUt YoU dOnT NeEd Conduits/leggos/etc!
she says crying because she does 1/4th of the damage and healing as everyone else in the same gear range
Mixed faction - no. Won’t work. We already have destroyed Faction pride. If Act/Blizz actually want to re-energize this game, most of what you suggest is relevant but the one BIG one they have always failed on is allowing large scale premades in bgs. In Vanilla AV had instance numbers which is how we queued up to play with our friends/guild and how the same AV instance could run for days. Go to bed, wake up queue back up for the same instance. Then they broke it and its been broken every since then. They repeated the mistake in Classic and that drove me out of Classic. Once again, only the Alliance could get premades in. We were able, as you well know, to do that in WOD for both factions. Now only Alliance can pull it off, like Run Gaming and Cryptick’s group can get 30+ into one 40 man bg.
All the crying about poor pugs - they gave us COMMUNITIES. Hydra had to form two communities to hold our active members. That means about 2K people who want to PLAY TOGETHER can only do it in groups of 5. IF they would fix the problem all our 5K members would be playing WOW instead of FFIV.
In PVE they can take 25+ man raid groups in. We need REWARDS for SPECIFIC queues just like for random AND we need to be able to queue up as a full 40 man raid group for bg’s like AV, IOC, Ashran.
With all the PVP communities in the game now who are STARVED for real organized CASUAL pvp Blizz is blowing a big $$$$ opportunity to put FUN back in PVP. Four years ago I put together a pro forma on what needed to be done, why and how much they have lost to illicit servers because people want to be able TO PLAY WITH THEIR FRIENDS. Build the best social network in the world and then kill their opportunity to play together. Rated PVP is a different animal in many respects. All the carry groups who come in with Duelist or better gear AFTER they drop their rating 100 points so they can decimate lower geared rated players so they can carry someone with 0 rating for money/gold are killing rated PVP. They need to fix that. The pro forma I sent to Activision’s COB 4 years ago I believe resulted in Classic being released but once again, they missed the mark. People are once again fleeing to illicit private servers just to be able to have fun in PVP again.
Love these suggestions. Especially removing the honor cap, which I feel was put in place by complaints from the PvE community. The new epic BGs and World PvP events also sound great. My only complaint would be for this
I would still want the starter PvP gear to cost Honor, just not a stupidly high grind like it is now. I’m not all for PvP gear behind a gold cost. I would want to be rewarded by playing the game, and not buying a token.
All in all, though, everything is spot on and would bring some much-needed changes to retail PvP. I’ve been playing in classic for several weeks now and have mostly abandoned retail. These changes would make me dust off my retail toons and race back to retail.
If they insist on such a grindy process with this ~85k honor for a set of crappy honor/starter gear BS then the least they could do is make honor points tradeable between alts.
This way your main (which is presumably already max geared), can simply mail any excess honor points to an alt of your choice. You would also avoid spending dozens and dozens and dozens of hours in the graveyard being a drag on your teammates as a lowbie/no-gear 60 in random BGs.
the reason for the gold only cost is to make the barrier to entry as low as possible. if you are sitting in LFR, normal, or heroic ilvl seeing pvpers in gear that scales up to above mythic raider will scare you away.
seeing that the set is easily obtained, especially by players who just happened to be browsing, should increase participation. the gold price means that someone can see that gear, see the tooltip scales it up to 252 in pvp, and see that they can get it right now. well if you just bought a full set of gear and it scales up to a huge ilvl you dont have in your raid gear, the first thing you are going to want to do is go try it out where it does scale up.
additionally it makes gearing an alt super easy
they could make honor account wide or make a way package and send honor to alts, but i think that is just overly complex, gold works for everyone.
Only problem is gold makes “too much sense”, gotta keep investors happy and those /played time metrics up
Lowering the overall honor costs or allowing trading of honor points between alts is probably a more realistic request.
you got bag space for stacks of honor?
blizz keeps fixing problems by either A making a new currency, or B taking up bag space.
seriously, go open up your currency tab and count, we’re one patch in and already have more currencies than most expansions.
some of those currencies don’t even solve any issues, Soul Cinders is just soul ash all over again, limited amount per week, weeks of grinding to make leggo. they literally added a currency and solved nothing.
thats what i think sharable honor would be, another currency that in the end solves nothing and just creates more problems.
Blizz would be more likely to go the gold route. “Want to PvP on the side? Buy a wow token!”
if we have already destroyed faction pride, then the thing we stand to lose by mixing factions was already lost, and therefore we can lose nothing.
thats not to say there wont be repercussions of mixing factions, any change has some unintended consequences, however the faction imbalance is bigger than epics or even just pvp, the whole game is affected by it and this is an idea brought up time and again from players of all areas of the game.
Communities will premade, there is no way around it, playing with friends is fun, and playing with a lot of friends is really fun. the issue with premades in epics is that if you allow full premades, then that becomes the requirement, and there is no place for solos. currently premades queue sync, which would still work to a degree with mixed factions. one of the ways i thought about letting premades work so we could still do stuff like SAS+Hydra vs RUIN is to let teams pick which side they want to be on. everyone who wants to be on the same team, get the same color.
this could also let large communities self wargame by having people just pick colors, and play against each other, if they dont fill the game and get 5-10 solos on each side, that would make a great recruiting tool.
the issue for full premades is that they do get abused, RUIN is proof that we can’t do that as instead of just being dominant and having a high win%, they grief and graveyard farm. blizz added code for rated epics during bfa, 25v25, and while that would be a good place for premade vs premade, 25v25 seems too small, and rated doesn’t allow all the fun toys and items that get used by players in epics to make things fun. IMO, queue-syncing with preselected color is a good middle ground.
I posted a topic recently in the BC discussion forums about mixed faction for TBC to alleviate Horde queue times. It would make more sense to have it in retail lore wise. Look at the last several expansions. “We hate each other until we overcame our mutual differences for the greater good”
I mean come on, I just spent the campaign saving half the Horde’s leaders AND we learn that in the afterlife factions don’t even matter. There’s 0 reason for us to even dislike each other anymore.
I think it makes sense for retail, but not from lore reasons, enemies overcoming differences to save the world is a hollywood trope that itself is not seen in reality.
what you do have though is a very old game with mains that have thousands of hours of playtime. not everyone is comfortable transferring or even wants to at all. in pvp especially you make friends on both sides, even if you only play one.
the only real factions anymore are the players and the devs.
I like Spicyj’s suggestion. Simple and elegant:
@Inemia
Looks like posting was just enabled for the PTR forum, might be a good time to copy-paste yourself over there:

thanks!
I just added my 2 bits over there.
