Inappropriate WoW Name

Where can I find a list of usernames/words that would be against the Blizzard ToS policy? I have the name ‘Kms’ on Doomhowl (WoW Classic Anniversary Hardcore server) and I don’t wish to have this username anymore as it’s triggering to friends and people that I have met.

I issued a ticket to ‘self-report’ my own name so I wouldn’t receive a possible ban due to my name, however I was told that my name was not considered inappropriate as “Kms could mean anything”.

If this is the case, which names are considered inappropriate under the terms of service? If ‘Kms’ doesn’t fall under this umbrella I would love to know what does. Thanks

What is wrong with the name Kms? Seriously Google just shows results for Key Management Systems. I’m not sure why you would think it would be so bad that it would be on a list of some kind (there isn’t one BTW because that would be impossible to do).

Short answer is you cannot, as there is not one. If you believe it is against policy you are free to self report with no negative effects, but a quick google search gave nothing to indicate it might be inappropriate.

He said in the OP that he did self report, and this is what he was told…

There isn’t. Use some common sense. Blizzard is reactive when it comes to naming violations.

The answer is the same, self reporting is the only option. If Blizz deemed it appropriate, his only option is to pay for a name change (unsure if that is a thing in Classic), or live with it.

Yes and Blizzard said it isn’t inappropriate so that is the end of it. There is nothing more to be done. The OP acted like everyone should know that this is an inappropriate name and if it isn’t then nothing else can be. Looking up Kms literally brings up pages and pages of Key Management Systems.

It was though.

Unless you look it up on UrbanDictionary, and I know Blizzard uses that too.

If it was deemed as acceptable, that’s it.

There is no masterlist.

If you are reported and it’s changed for some reason, we’ll have your contact on record. Not sure why this one would be - not getting it either.

It’s a pretty standard abbreviation for deleteing one’s self. That’s where my brain went to.

While that’s true, names are funny things. Didn’t hit me that way when presented as a name at all.

It’s a millenial/new generation chat abbreviation for suicide. Not trying to be a pest, but I’m actually a bit concerned that Blizzard doesn’t recognize that. KYS/KMS should definitely be known, and in my humble opinion, looked upon much more unfavorably. Extremely toxic abbreviation.

Names aren’t usually seen in the context of acronyms. 3 letters in a name is closer to initials.

Anyway, can certainly ask again, but I can see why they didn’t see it either, if their brain worked like mine did :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah the negative connotation behind Kms/Kys is definitely there unfortunately. I feel bad for folks that have those initals out there.

I really don’t think you can blame Blizzard for not knowing it. Google shows not mention of it standing for anything but Key Management Systems (at least on the first page). I’m Gen X but I have a ton of millenial friends and I have never seen it used. I’m not saying it isn’t inappropriate BTW, just saying I can see why Blizzard wouldn’t know it.

I would definitely put in a suggestion (or have the OP send in another ticket) explaining why it is inappropriate.

Google results will be curated differently based on your personal browsing. Result return may vary.

My result for this in a google search “kms meaning” shows the Knowledge management system then shows the unalive meaning as the second return result on the breakdown of meanings. It’s a pretty commonly used acronym (sadly).

This doesn’t mean that Blizzard needs to learn all slang. However it might be good to take a second look at acronyms as player names in general.

Doing a search for “KMS abbreviations” gave me the worst-case abbreviation right at the top.

OP, if you didn’t explain what the perceived issue was, perhaps try again with that explanation included.

Yeah I can see this one being borderline, but not direct enough to warrant changing it for now.

The solution may be a paid name change for now, if Bliz disagrees that this is a violation at this time.
