Inappropriate names are getting out of control

So i was thinking about introducing my niece to this game since she likes video games in general. Only problem is, every other name i see in this game is inappropriate. Ontop of that, the way the people with these nasty names speaks is totally not ok for a younger audience. I have tried reporting these names and asking them to stop but i see the same names every day. When i ask them to stop i get so much hate back. I feel like I’ll never be able to share my favorite game with my niece until blizzard cracks down on this toxicity

Report them and move on.
People are going to test the boundaries occasionally. They have to mess around and find out.

I report them daily but nothing happens. I tell them i reported them and ask them to stop and that just makes them worse. I rally people to help report their toxicity but that never helps. I feel like nothing will get done.

Start characters on an RP realm. Turn off her friendly player nameplates. Turn off all her chat channels except party.

Just report them let Blizzard take care of them. I seen some pretty bad names and guild names too on top of that. Normally it’s new folks that don’t know the coc,nor manners at that.

Report in game as inappropriate .

Asking another player to not use such a name isn’t going to do anything, You need to put an actual report in game and go on about your day.

That right there is your issue, that’s why you’re getting backlash.

The whole point of reporting properly in game is to avoid that. In telling the players you open yourself up to harassment so, maybe stop telling people in game you’re reporting them.

If they get slapped for a name change then they get slapped with a name change. You gotta just let it go after putting in report.

This is the actual solution to the OP’s “problem”

From what I remember the RP realms have slightly different rules for names, asking the general public (on regular servers) to use PG13 names is never going to work since special characters can be used to “get around” any such naming restrictions

Plus, people like their names usually

Lol internet folks have been using nasty meme names since day once.

Ever browse Reddit? Some of the most hilarious and awful names there, lol.

Just turn off all player nameplates, period. Nobody needs all that junk cluttering up the game world anyway. It’s much better looking without all that. Then you never have to see the names.

You might see names in chat occasionally, if you have chat enabled; if you see one that’s egregious, report it and move on. For your niece, turn off the chat channels. If she’s really young, she shouldn’t be talking to people online anyway.

Turn off player nameplates and general/trade chat. I understand your issue, you are reporting and that is all you can do. Now focus on your niece and also understand that she is getting exposed to just as bad if not worse in life and you dont need to protect her as much as you may think. Not saying you should not try, just saying keeping her from experiencing the game because of names is…over the top. She will never get to experience most of life with over protection and be ill prepared when she does.

Maybe an exaggeration? This game has violence as well. Depends on how old your niece is. I think Blizz does crack down pretty hard on has many inappropriate names as possible.

You shouldn’t do this. This can quickly cross a line into you inciting harassment and false reporting. Other people have their own degrees of tolerance for what is and isn’t appropriate language. Let them report if they feel it’s necessary. For yourself, just report, block them, and move on with your life. You have nothing to gain by engaging with them.

That’s all you need to do.

You crossed the line, what did you actually expect the response to be from someone already breaking the tos?

Don’t go Moonguard or Wyrmrest Accord. Those are the top two ‘lewd RP’ servers.
RP servers have rules that names must fit the character and can’t be words.
Continue to report names and guild names that you seem unfit. They will get flagged by the system then.
When Vulpera just came out there were SO many bad names… but I did my duty!

Although I would be sad if i get told to change my name, it technically doesn’t fit the RP realm rules. It’s a nickname though. All Pandaran always called her Weird.

Ohh a niece,if so she may not know the meanings of the words, if a teen well yeah that could be a problem. It good your there for her.

Yeah the RP realms can be ok. I like where someone said turning all chat off except party that’s a good idea too.

Average teenager is exposed to much worse these days than what happens in WoW, WoW should be the least of a “concerned parent’s” worries tbh

I live near a high school, and the random teenagers frequently “pass thru” the apartment complex on their way to the nearby gas station. I overhear it all as they walk by the windows… the F word, the N-word, random slurs, “hood speak”, etc

We’re talking 14-18 year old kids and they’re already very “well versed” in adult language… these are likely the same peers as the OP’s niece, these are the kinds of kids she likely interacts with at middle school/high school lol

…and that’s not even including all the violence and sexual stuff in a huge % of TV and movies, and the internet. A “concerned parent” has their work cut out for them, because unless you live a super-isolated/unusual life in a religious small town or something the American general public will QUICKLY expose any minor to a “crash course” in adult language

Not by choice though. Just cause others are doing it, doesn’t mean she has to. Ect ect.

Let unkle be good and try and protect his little niece. The world gets dark so soon for her.

My edit to your edit;
I was the weird one… I never fit in with any of those groups of kids at highschool so I never got into any of that. My ‘gang’ was online, friends all over the world via neopets. lol
