In shock, Ion said NO FLYING, and PATHFINDER AGAIN

Quitting over flight is one of the stupidest recurring themes I’ve seen on these forums. I get enjoying flight. It’s convenient, and Pathfinder Part 1 not unlocking flight is indeed stupid. But it’s not a core piece of the game. At all.

yeah it’s kind of reminiscent of the people that come in crying about LFR claiming they’re going to quit about it and go play classic and yet they’re still here crying about LFR anyways obviously still playing retail. LOL

That statement I agree with. I have pathfinder and I prefer pathfinder to buying flying with gold. I just hate the wait.

It really wasn’t a matter of listening to the ganker demographic, though they were the only players who wanted to get rid of flight at the time.

For devs it was a win win situation: either they got rid of flying and players would be forever stuck on the ground, slowly moving between point a and point b with terrain puzzles and fake map features impeding them everywhere, or they forced pathfinder on us, which would require players to continually repeat pointless, irrelevant content for months, with multiple artificial time delays before a brief period of flight is followed by an end zone with no flight.

No need to create engaging content for players when you can force them to do the same daily chores for months.

Yeah imagine that a game maker full of college graduates that can’t figure out how to take their own stinking game mechanics into account when they’re writing new content LOL

And that was yet another reason why Lich King was the best expansion ever: the moment I reached 80, I could let all my alts start flying over Northrend at 68.

That and Dungeon Finder and daily Frost badges and jousting for heirlooms…oh, such happy memories.

It’s absolutely not a compromise. It’s an illusion. You can fly when the content is utterly irrelevant.

What it is is completely exploitative and manipulative game design. And that game design is applied to the game in general. Instead of giving players things the devs know we want, instead they string us along for arbitrary amounts of time. Back when the game was extremely popular the devs would just say: “Want flying? Here you go. Want new races? Here you go.”

They don’t do that anymore. Instead they use these features as a way to keep people subbed, paying, grinding for months in order to unlock what we used to get right away. And people defending this kind of terrible design are part of the problem. But those saps will defend Blizzard no matter what.

In the context the fate of flying was up in the air (no pun intended) the playerbase didnt get an answer until polygon told us what the devs didn’t bother to tell. To many it was the final straw of the crapfest that was WoD.

If you’re angry about pathfinder, send me gold and ill use vial of the sands and be your mount for a day, no rep farm needed!

no it wasnt, might have been 78 even then i think at first it was 80 and lowered, but for sure was not 77. and ive probably been playing this game longer than you.

also this started with a guy saying the game was way more popular without pathfinder, like thats what caused the downfall, which is stupid, because the daown turn happened long before pathfinder.

And your point? This is not “any other mmorpg”, this is WoW and it has pathfinder. I enjoy doing the pathfinder to be able to fly. I don’t mind the wait or the “grind”, but I would like to see part 2 come a little earlier.

I am not a fan of pathfinder. There’s many a thing I’m not a fan of but I’ve come to accept, such as:

  1. Pathfinder
  2. A toxic enough pug community that I will never tank for a pug again
  3. Idiots voting for people who clearly aren’t a good choice just because of the letter by the person’s name on the ballot
  4. Way too many other things to list.

However, I’ve accepted that it will be a part of this game until at LEAST the current dev team turns over.

Right now I’m working on my Alliance side empty fish tank rep, and if anyone remembers the episode of the Simpsons where they filmed a Radioactive Man movie in Springfield, and where they were filming in the Simpsons’ house and Homer was invited to go out to the food truck…and left so quickly that he left a Homer shaped cloud of dust…

Yeah, that’s how quickly I’ll leave the empty fish tank, ne’er to return, once I get my final piece of rep needed for them. If I can add on my fingers, toes and other appendages correctly, I’ll have the empty fish tank people rep (my last piece needed) done this coming Friday or Saturday, because of the WQ rep bonus, and assuming that the empty fish tank people come up as an emissary at least once this week.

For Shadowlands, I will be working on the rep from the get go on a human DK, because I can blow through stuff as one of those like a hot knife through butter, and the human rep bonus.

And for someone like me, who is a bit on the po’ side since all of my previous ways of raising gold have been annihilated by idiots, not having to buy flying for each alt is a godsend - as is flying in the new zones from the get-go.

It was one hundred percent a compromise

“Compromising” with griefers sounds like Neville Chamberlain’s meeting with Hitler.

" The ability to fly in Northrend was initially meant to require a questline, but this was removed. Instead, a character had to be level 77 and offer 1000g."

Dude, a simple google will confirm it for you. I’ve played since 6 months before BC launched, though I don’t see what that would prove.

Cold Weather Flying is a spell that is taught by a < Cold Weather Flying Trainer> for 1000g . It enables players the ability to use their flying mounts in Northrend. Druids will also require this to use their Flight Form/Swift Flight Form in Northrend too. Players have to be level 77 or higher to train this ability.

Now get lost with your BS.

It is though, sorry.

Just my word against yours.

It took me a few to figure out the empty fish tank people. When I finally got it I chuckled. I will blame it on the beer!

The mode of travel called flight was not actually a problem unless blizzard decided to make it a problem. Which they did. And then when they tried to remove it the player base went crazy because well flight isn’t that big of a deal if the game maker is actually competent enough to write content Taking Flight into account. Evidently blizzard is not that capable and probably should just stop making games all together since they’re not as talented apparently as they think they are.

I would be more accepting of pathfinder if it wasnt locked behind a pointless rep grind. IMO FFXIV handles flying unlocks a lot better.
