In shock, Ion said NO FLYING, and PATHFINDER AGAIN

THe slow and steady sub loss wouldn’t have been enough for Blizzard to override the devs on their grand vision for the future of the game. There was a massive wave of people cancelling their subscriptions with flying as the reason, then replacing the subscription when the devs caved.

Funny canned? You mean just totally do away with flying? I mean, yeah, I wouldn’t mind if they totally got rid of flying, but it’s become too much of an integral part of the game, since it’s been around since BC. I think my idea would be a good compromise though.

Someone mentioned in another thread an idea that could coinvince me to change sides from the “no flying” camp… if Blizzard fully embraced flying, adding threats, weaknesses, strengths and content, I could be convinced to switch sides.

Imagine if flying wasn’t just a method of travel and “threat escape?” I hadn’t really considered this idea until a few minutes ago, and I think there’d be merit to exploring it.

Vash’jir is the best leveling zone in the entire game.

You always have the option to stay on the ground and have the experience you want. Other people flying doesn’t affect you.

Hmm, that could be kinda neat. Threats as in stuff like adverse weather? Blizzard should also work a bit more on their weather system as well. Like, maybe certain mounts go slower during a snow storm, or others can’t even fly at all.

Other mounts can be more specifically desert mounts, and they would be able to fly through sandstorms. Like, imagine flying through Tanaras on a regular flying mount and suddenly you’re surrounded by a sandstorm. You’d get a warning telling you to land/change mounts or whatever, and there would be like a 10 second countdown before you’re automatically dismounted.

Guild Wars 2 has something like this with their mounts. There are certain types of terrain and zone effects that will inflict severe damage on you but can be counteracted by mounts that hover or can fly a short distance before landing. It’s pretty cool to be able to traverse those areas once you have the mounts.

Flying is bad for the game. There is no game with flying. Glad this change happened. Don’t hate me :disappointed_relieved:

Would you rather we all had to do mythic raids to get flying? (because, you know, this is where we do most of our flying…) I’ll take the mindless stuff.

Translation: I can’t have everything I want right now! So I’m quitting and going home!

Pathfinder isn’t even that hard. You can get it passively by just playing the game normally. Don’t know why people get so tilted by it

If you mean what this sounds like: Yes, there is a game with flying… WoW’s closest competitor (FFXIV).

I had no idea FFIVX had flying, i tried the game and didn’t like it. I would imagine it doesn’t have as much as a impact as WoW flying has. Its kinda hard to beat 310% flying speed or w/e it is now. Like if WoW had BC 60% flying speeds outside of outlands and gave the choice to the player on what seemed more effecient, 100% ground or 60% flying that would be fair. I think I always hated flying because it removed so much I loved from the game, Classic WoW really proved to me how right I was.

You are right, it doesn’t. It isn’t super speedy like flying in WoW + you can unlock speed bonuses but they are only applicable to ground mounts.

I couldn’t care less about what money Activision/Blizzard gets or doesn’t get. If this game goes down in flames I have other games to play in place of it. I simply am sick of seeing people whine about flying and how ‘shocked’ or ‘surprised’ they are to see the model is still not changing. I would rather play games with people who want to play the game as opposed to constantly crying about features they want or don’t like.

Spot on Rusty! The requirements for Pathfinder are very easy to do if you just play the game they designed. The problem is delaying the availability for those who are willing to earn it.

Im more curious as to how they bragged about one of their most profitable quarters that they were able to pay an exec $15 million “bonus” which also came at the same time they downsized 800 staff including everyones fave blue yak forum mod who was one of the few forum staff that was actively conversing with players on a nearly daily basis

I dont know what math Blizzard is using which tells them all of the above means the company is prosperous

But i think they need to get a new calculator

They got to have content with no work whatsoever somehow right?

6 months or less is more than enough time to experience the content and maps even for the most casual player. 1 year is not. The logic behind gating it for that long is wrong.

All this is, developer or player, is forcing everyone to experience the content in a 1 sided way. If people want to experience the content by flying then let them. If you want to experience from being grounded then go for it.

The Problem isn’t Pathfinder, the problem is Blizz stretches it out way to far. It shouldn’t take us 1 full year in an xpac before we can fly. 6 months max, and even that is too long.

This is the first xpac ever that I unsubbed after getting Pathfinder 1. I almost didn’t come back when Pathfinder 2 was up. Next xpac, I may just stay gone for good. Blizz needs to eat a little humble pie and realize that restricting flying for so long is a very serious issue for many of us.

What was “everything I want right now” about how flying worked in the four expansions since it was introduced? Pathfinder’s only existed for three, how was it necessary to change the game?

For four expansions we had complete and total freedom in how we gained the gold for flying. Quests, dungeons, professions, mailbox dancing, gold sellers…anything. Now it’s 'grind all the reputations even ones you don’t need, all on a single character, do all the story, do some side things, and next expansion do even more". There’s no freedom whatsoever. I detest being forced to have a main, instead of exploring the story of whoever I feel like playing, and wasting time grinding reputation with a faction that a different character needs (and will have to grind again for their recipe). All for something I USED TO HAVE.
