I still dont understand why people hate pathfinder so much… It honestly doesnt bother me. May its just an alt thing. I typically play one toon for the bulk of each expansion, only messing with alts during downtime between patches or at the end of the expac.
Is it a grind, or is it time gated? Those circles in a venn diagram don’t overlap for me. “Grind” implies that you can “grind” it until you’re done. Time gating means they space it out for you, thus removing the “grind” and giving you daily/weekly/monthly objectives.
For Rustbolt and Nazjatar, you have maybe an hour total of crucial dailies you need to to when working towards flying. Less if you have a friend who can fly you around. If you only have 30 minutes a day to dedicate to WoW, what else are you even doing that you can fit into that small of a window?
IDK, I’m not wild about Pathfinder, but I don’t find it to be this immovable wall that so many people on the forums view it to be.
My complaint is the timegating. There is ZERO reason to wait a year+ between Pathfinder 1 and 2. There shouldn’t even BE a Pathfinder 2.
And the Pathfinders make no sense lorewise, like if they care that much about their precious flying invent lore around it. Make a special task force that guards the skies and you have to grind to revered with, and you have to earn favor with THEM.
At least pretend it’s an RPG still, devs, and not a mechanic invented out of laziness and spite.
Ok, let’s pretend you are the president/king/owner of a continent/country/etc. You see a person from a faction you don’t know/trust flying in your area. What do you do? SHOOT’EM DOWN!
This is the logic used for pathfinder. Earn their trust so you can fly without any issue.
The only evidence I ever saw of this ingame was Mechagon and the flying guards in BC zones. In both cases, it was well done.
Why not do a Wintergrasp thing pre Pathfinder? Try to fly, get shot down and parachuted unless you earn rep with a special group. Even if it’s the same stuff it would feel better in an RPGish way.
No but I’m sure Acitvision/Blizzard’s Accounting staff aren’t pleased.
Every lost player is LOST development, R&D and salary dollars. But then your wage isn’t on the line; how? are you a friend of Activision/Blizzard when your promoting a view that costs them money.
Because every time you say you won’t be missed, that player and the other 10 or 20 that read your statement and are upset about the same thing and decide to leave without posting it or fanfare; that HURTS Activision/Blizzard.
Same garbage was spewed during WoD and Blizzard LOST 5.6 Million customers and didn’t get them back. Something to think about.
I personally think flying makes the world feels smaller, so I am ok with it being the way it is too. Ion had mentioned in an interview in the past that if there was one feature he’d take out it altogether it was flying. Because all the hard work the artists had put into creating those zones to give us a ‘sense of world’ gets ruined by just ‘taking off and landing’ like a helicopter without experiencing it.
The most iconic thing about WoW is the world itself. And part of the reason that the world in Classic ‘feels so big’ is because of the lack of flying. It helps with the immersion in the fantasy.
may be no way it wasn’t happening, I still can play classic for a year or two then buy it discounted with catchups and grind pathfinder then if I still care enough to do it.
What I won’t do is buy pre order if I’m not happy with what I see.
Trust lost (no flying in wod / lost 5 million plus subs killed it for me) can never be fully regained.
I think a good 90% (yes made up number) of the rage for pathfinder is the spiteful time gate between parts 1 and 2. It’s one thing to work toward a reward but it feels terrible to work toward a reward and have to just wait to see any benefit to your effort.
So you are saying you are going to buy the expansion… just not pre purchase it? Ok. You are still giving the money and that is not going to change their decision on pathfinder and flying.
That isn’t what Elohl said. He said he can play classic for 1-2 years and then buy the expansion at a discount and grind pathfinder once it’s assured it’s released.
Personally I think 2020 will be the year they finally make major changes in the development team or announce Warcraft is closing. I don’t see Shadowlands selling well and I see them losing more subscribers.
Pathfinder is a spiteful thing. Just as it’s spiteful to the player base I’m hoping this time the developers finally get the result that goes with that spite. Remember to wear decent shoes Ion when your pounding the pavement.
I have all the pathfinders because that’s how important the flying is to me. What I’m more concerned about, is ION going to do a JERK (not the word I wanted to use trust me) move and lock all flying in game OFF until you get Shadowlands pathfinder.
FFXIV does it but all you have to do to unlock flying is just do the story and click on some cloud things in each zone and bam, you have flying. No waiting an entire year for Blizzard to randomly decide when you actually get to fly, you just unlock it yourself.
I freaking wish Blizzard would do that instead. That’s what they originally made Pathfinder sound like, “just unlock flying by playing the game” and they lied to us. It’s more like “just unlock flying by playing the game and waiting a whole year”, wtf?
Yeah, it unlocks organically for those who do the grind to unlock it. It hasn’t unlocked for me “organically” since MoP. I haven’t flown in current content since MoP precisely because Pathfinder does not unlock flying for me with my playstyle. Why don’t I do the grind that is Pathfinder? Because some people send back a turd when it is served to them. The price of this self-respect is that I haven’t flown in current content since MoP.
The one difference this time around is that I won’t be purchasing or playing Shadowlands. I’m frankly tired of Pathfinder not unlocking flying for me organically.
