In other news, Apple released $600 headphones

if you want to pay extra money for a downgraded phone just so it has an apple logo on it then go right ahead… Enjoy your apple logo…

No, again, this is apple´s fault for not being transparent enough. The throttling only happens when your battery is chemically deteriorated and can no longer supply the processor peak power. They could have done nothing, and allowed the phones to continue to just turn off on people, or they could throttle the clocks and users would be able to keep using their phones.

This is now an option that you can disable if you so choose. Or you can opt to have the battery replaced and the throttling is no longer an issue, or present.

Again, people who say they did this to get you to upgrade are incorrect. They are Extending the useful life of their phones when they did this.

What about the RC Cola vs Coke? Though that was decades ago.

When the BBC reported on the initial lawsuit they mentioned that part of the case France was making was that updates related to the issue were timed to be relatively near, shortly before or after, new releases.

That could be false, but considering France ended up fining Apple 25 million euros for it, I am more inclined to believe the prosecutors over the company who apparently doesn’t have much regard for transparency to begin with.

I far prefer my cola to be radio controlled.

That’s how they get you though. They infect your mind with the 5G waves from the cola.

Apple has a new phone every year, just like their competitors. I don’t recall exactly when they updated the OS to throttle phones with chemically degraded batteries, but it would seem more like coincidence if was near the launch of a new phone, rather than anything suspicious.

For example, iOS 14 came out in September 2020, and the new iPhone 12 models came out in October. iOS 14 supports phones all the way back to the 6s which came out in Sept 2015, five years ago. I’d bet the 6s will not be supported next year with iOS 15.

I personally don’t have a problem with Apple myself I play wow on a work Mac book. However, when they do stuff like slow down phones without clear communication to the customer or release overpriced products that does bother some people.

I always look at prices from competitors to see if products are overpriced.

Yeah, I’m not going to pretend to know Apple’s (or any company, really) thinking. I only know what’s been said by people more involved than me. It could very well just be they did something without thinking and made it look a lot worse than it really was. They also could be plotting to take over the world in a shadow war, the only sign of which is seen through some poor court clerk’s writing. I’ll never know, so I don’t really care all that much.

I don’t particularly like Apple because of experiences with them independent of the throttling, but they’re anecdotal so I don’t expect it to factor into anyone’s decision making. That being said, the people in this thread who are getting so personal about what kind of phone someone has are a bit depressing. It reminds me of people who are obsessed with clothing brands and won’t associate with someone who wears athletic shorts from a different manufacturer. High school stuff.

One thing I’ve learned in adulthood: Never flaunt your wealth in public.

I would never wear these outside even if they were the best headphones in the world.

I have three kids, so buying some expensive is just asking for it to be broken in about a week.

I wouldn’t buy a pair of $600 headphones even if they were lovely hand-made by Jesus, even if I could justifiably afford them.

People with more dollars than sense.

My biggest gripe with apple is that their system is so closed, once you get one thing apple you pretty much are at the mercy of what apple decides and what they put out.

I prefer customization and open access to all the things.
