In light of issues with healer mmr, I called it in SL season 3

Reference : old post I made in SL season 3. Old post - July 2022

Remember when I called for RSS to have mmr/cr (post season) in SL season 4?

Well due to a lack of testing we are still having issues with mmr matching nearly almost a year after the game mode’s implementation. I made a lot of posts about this and got flame for it because I wanted to prevent the issues we are having now.

To prevent Ranked rbgs from having the same issues RSS is having, we need it to have some form of rating (post season) to properly test the feature.

Blizzard, lets us help you test this feature so it is a success.

MMR seems to be calculated properly, it’s the matching that is garbage.

Was going to say the same thing. Whats the issue with healer MMR? Everyone falls on the bell curve except the people quitting at 1800 for Tmog or those in placement games.

I think as you get the ball rolling it’s pretty good, but the starting mmr is def off. =/

What specifically?

Thanks for the feedback on the OP. The point I meant to highlight was mmr matching - specifically for healers. I have corrected the OP.

Thanks. Always nice knowing my posts are read.

It can be. Ive seen people go 0-6 in a 2k lobby with 0cr. Perhaps it has something to do with previous seasons mmr?

You should tell it again

Ohh dont worry, you know I will always express my thoughts on how to make the game better.

I believe it was widened to around +400 -400 MMR difference to alleviate queue times, first record of this was around 9 months ago people complaining about it.

At 1850 CR I was healing fresh CR DPS or up to 2100, or Healer vs Healer MMR has been fresh CR up to an even MMR of 1850, nothing much higher from my experience.

I have had lobbies where I and the other DPS were at 2200mmr while the healers were 15-1600. Maybe this has changed though.

Yea, I just think it’s good to clarify. So separate the issues.

  • How MMR is calculated - Most people would agree this is fine.
  • Placement matches - Most people would agree this needs work. For both carry over MMR and starting MMR for fresh characters. 0CR players that are new should not be placed into 1400-1600 matches. Players WITH MMR from the prior season should not be placed at nearly the same MMR as prior. Likewise, gear ilvl should be taken into account for your first few placement games.
  • MMR pairing - Most people would agree this needs work as well. A 2k MMR healer should never be paired with a healer that’s much lower than them. So 2k should never be with an 1800 healer. The 1800 healer has everything to gain and almost nothing to lose, even if they got 0-6. The 2k player has a lot to lose and even going 4-2 may not net any rating.

The matching is garbage because of the limited supply of players, and it just being harder / more punishing to climb on a healer. 20+ min queues don’t help for dps
