I understand that this is a brawl, however, I believe this “experiment” would yield better results for the final game mode if it went live with off-season cr. What I mean by this is that while technically rating is achievable it doesn’t really count (much like post-season or off-season rating). Rating achieved would not count towards gear upgrades (for PvE purposes) and achievements such as challenger, rival, duelist etc.
Let’s call this pseudo-rating.
Implementing this “experiment” with pseudo-rating allows for the issues associated with rating to be discovered and fixed with minimal disruption to the game as a whole. This would not be the case if proper rating was implemented from the get-go (given there would be issues much like the RSS implementation). The opportunity to do this for RSS was missed. Pseudo-rating could have been implemented during season 4 of SL but it wasnt. We are still feeling the results today… There are still issues with mmr and rating gains 11 months later.
The launch of DF PVP and the RSS game mode as a whole would have been so much smoother if the issues with rating were figured out prior to the launch. While adding pseudo-rating will not catch all the issues, it will definitely help and give the official Rated-battleground blitz a fighting chance.
While of course, PTR builds will eventually contain rated versions of the brawl, I don’t think the test environment will have enough people (among other factors) to work out the issues with rating (as can be seen with the RSS launch).
Having a live experiment would be much better IMO.
Overall, I think the implementation of this brawl is a step in the right direction for PVP.
The brawl tweaks things in a way that I think will be better suited for the solo queue environment.
Just make it so that if a person ever got elite rank on their account then they start the season at 2200. Get those ubbernerds out of my 800 mmr bracket, I can’t even get up the ladder. Those gods shouldn’t be starting the season with mere mortals.
Pseudo-Rating kind of makes sense and probably they have one under the hood. Showing it might also backfire as it will look like they cannot implement it correctly.
On the other hand, there would be some valuable community input next to those only criticizing class imbalance.
IMO the bracket will be much more popular than RSS due to the objective based nature of the game-mode. With this popularity i hope that high xp players will be put into higher lobbies. I personally prefer arena in general over RBGS however I can see why others dont like it compared to rbgs.
When premade-shuffle was released I once saw 80K HP shaman on the opposite team in the first set of the game. To my surprise no one in my team was going for the shaman, I thought “may be they know something I don’t” and didn’t think too much of it and continued to chase 280K HP paladin with my team, we lost. Next set the shaman was still on the opposite team, I went for the shaman and instantly a 290K HP demon hunter on my team died in a blink of an eye. That’s when I knew, solo shuffle isn’t for me.
ohh you are refering to the solo shuffle brawl? The old school brawl didnt have rating, this is the point I am trying to make. Lets learn from the mistake and make sure BGB has pseudo-rating. Also a lot of shuffle rounds can we weird like that.
They need to develop an AI system that can at least compete up til 1800 in rbgs imo. Solo q needs to be against robots until you’ve proven you’re better than the handicapped robots, low brackets are going to be an absolute heap of trash otherwise. There’s nothing to improve when 90% of the people on the map are playing wrong and its impossible to solo carry.
It would just make it so you’re not actually apart of “the ladder” until you can beat the tutorial. Which I think is fine given the barrier for entry into wow pvp is steeper than most games, mostly because gameplay elements are more stretched than other games. Wow doesn’t even give credit for positive gameplay, so there’s no way they intend on ranking people on anything other than w:l ratio.
Objectives aside, well not really, objectives are all bgs are about. If you throw in people who don’t even understand the basics of pvp and then have them compete over objectives everything in lower brackets is going to be a mess. All I can really see coming out of a solo queue is an easier avenue of finding rated teammates. Maybe the people who refuse to improve or believe they are wrong will find it enjoyable being stuck at a rating, or relying on artificial inflation each season (like rss) so they have a sense of progression, but I think the belief that rated solo q battlegrounds is going to be an enjoyable experience is a pipedream amongst those who for some reason refuse to do games with a set team.
Or maybe the people who do solo q just want to be stuck playing against people equally flawed but with no set allies whos criticism they can believe.
