I mean… it already does. There’s ToS speech restrictions.
But it’s never enough for some people.

If someone says something you don’t like, ignore them. Remember: Hate speech is speech that is hateful, not speech that you hate to read. People should not be punished simply because they’re having a conversation that you don’t want to participate in.
However, in that vein – expand what’s considered hate speech to include more than the obvious flags of hate speech. A “4”, “@”, “3”, etc somehow bypass the multi-million dollar company’s chat moderation feature. Include the more modernized hateful terminology in the filter.
Should be the simplest filter possible to just auto mute people.
im a gentleman, m’lady, so IF 1 cent of my sub did go to speech moderation i would give them 2 more cents and a thank you.
Eh. I mean back in the day we had global channels and people could mostly get along okay without being hateful. Sure there was plenty of trolling but that’s precisely what Barrens Chat became infamous for. It was far more innocuous then chats today.
Not sure how you fix the problem when the problem comes from the external political climate of the US.
I meant in the sense that OP was describing, I don’t have a problem with player moderation through reports. Right now the community decides what they do and don’t want in chat channels. I do not however want a round table of “experts” moderating the games I play.
i started reading this and thinking they were talking about the voice chat, and was like, people use the ingame voice chat?
“Toxic” is such a toxic word, you disagreeing with people doesn’t make them “toxic”. LFG, world chat, trade chat, etc. have always been 75% ‘trolling’ and 25% using them for the proper reason. Maybe some thicker skin would help here? Not sure how people get so offended by strangers on the internet.
They never lived til they experienced the Barrens in Vanilla, trade now is so tame!
It also confuse because it about Classic.
Yeah. I wouldn’t want to engage in a game where I was honestly upset frequently.
Regulate your gaming environment. Not in a group you enjoy - leave. Not on a server that shares your values to the extent that you are upset - transfer.
The power rests in the hands of the player, after all.
Also this. So… So many N words.
It’s about both. As has been stated several times.
Started reading the thread and came to this same conclusion. Another isolated incident happened so let me come to the forums and generalize and stereotype an entire community.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, 12 years of on and off play, and I’ve had maybe a handful of “toxic” incidents. There always seems to be a common denominator in these posts, and it’s not really “the community”
Take away cross realm. Bring back community. Ignoring the few pot stirrers cleaned up chat considerably.
Off and on since the start and I only have one on ignore in the game.
If it’s truly toxic I will report, but generally like in life I just move on and not feign outrage. I did towards the end of my time in bfa after a particularly obnoxious battleground, when I realized how silly it was to allow some pleb’s words in a BG affect me I knew it was break time.
The general rule is don’t engage, the people who complain usually bit, that’s been my experience.
There’s already a system in place.
Myth. As a matter of fact… just yesterday there were two forum posts about the user being unfairly silenced in game (and then getting a forum vacation for breaking the rules on the forums also).
There’s already a system in place where you report someone, after a certain number of reports the person gets a temp silence and the incident is further investigate to see if additional punishment is warranted.
No… it’s a bad idea from the start. A single customer should not have authority over other customers. Period.
I can’t imagine what a player chat mod would do on Proudmoore…the things I have read about it chat cannot be unseen
Everyone is silenced! Buy your right to chat! Tithes if you will! Token per week per character to talk
If I like your content, I may reduce the taxes. You offend me and my sensible ways, everyone gets taxed more!
A fair and good take on the situation
