In-game chat desperately needs moderation

They get silenced if you report them, they don’t tolerate that in the slighest.

Did you play in Vanilla? Ever step foot in the Barrens at all back then? This is moderated so much more now. You need to stop engaging with the crazies, because when you do they just prattle on.

Flag and move on.

I did, and Barrens chat was quarantined to the Barrens General chat, so you could just /leave that channel and move on, and you were fine.

Now Barrens chat has taken over LFG and Trade, and there’s no escape from it if you want to be able to sell stuff or find groups.

As I said earlier, if we set (and enforced) a moderation rule that Trade chat had to be trade related, LFG chat had to be group finding related, and created a worldwide World chat, that would suffice for me, even though it’d be non-ideal.

So you can leave trade by the same regard?

You see I don’t see all this stuff that you are going on about at all on my server.

So? There are addons to stop the LFG spam, same as your obvious “triggering” things, why not use them?

I could, but then I wouldn’t have access to Trade chat. Same with LFG.

You do understand that simply by advising to leave the channel, you’re tacitly admitting that the chat channel in question has become problematic enough to drive people away, right?

No I am not. I am not bothered by what you are and am merely offering you suggestions to resolve your perceived issues.

I don’t see what you are seeing as often as you claim to see it. And if I find it offensive I flag and move on. I don’t engage.

All we can do is control how these things affect you. Don’t let them hurt your feelings or ruin your day. You didn’t say them. You aren’t responsible for the sloppy actions of others.

In-game moderation? oh, you mean auto-moderation, and automatic removal like what happens on the forums? no thanks.

I get the impression OP is easily offended. There’s a wide range of toxicity. Some people arguing about politics in Trade isn’t the end of the world. When people get particularly heinous with racial slurs and stuff, that DOES get reported and actioned fairly quickly.

I’d rather deal with a bit of toxicity and feel like I can talk how and about pretty much whatever I want than have chat be heavily moderated and feel like it’s not worth trying to talk openly.

You understand there’s a middle ground here, right? Reasonable moderation that keeps chat civil without squelching reasonable conversation?

There is no middle ground. Games have ratings. Warcraft is rated teen. It has MILD language. If you are familiar with the 7 words you cant say on TV then those are the kinds you cant get away with in game and thats the kinda immaturity I’m talking about. I wan’t to be able to swear. The F word is such a versatile word its probably one of the best words invented in the last 1,000 years. It’s great. It combos well. The game chat is best moderated by the players.

that way the real harmful stuff gets reported, the harmless stuff is for the most part allowed to flow freely under the radar. Unless you have a prudish Patty who clutches her pearls when she hears the explicit word for dung.

im not going to be toxic like many of the players on here, but it is what it is.

I really don’t think people are unsubbing because of trade chat. Adults can handle the mild language and thinly veiled innuendos, and if it goes too far there are reporting system available. As for children, if the parent chose to give their child a game with M on the cover, do they care about the “this game requires an internet connection, game play varies once connected, be advised mature content will be experienced online” If i seen the M and read below I would not allow any pre-teen on the game, but to some I might be an overprotective parent.

I’m not talking about swearing and whatnot. I’m talking about the kind of behaviour that doesn’t quite rise to an overt violation of the ToS, but still drains your energy and makes you wish to be elsewhere. Trolling, politics spam, conspiracy theory spamming/arguing, etc. That dung gets old fast.

I too am a connoisseur of sentence enhancers, unfortunately, the forums do not have dolphin clicks. or the game for that matter. Someone should make a text to speech addon that makes all the bad words into dolphin clicks.

I think this right here is the problem you call it toxic I call such things just messing around and having a good time.

The op would have this removed so that I couldn’t enjoy what I do. When instead if you don’t like it you can use an addon to filter all of it and never see anything that offends you, while I get to enjoy it at the same time.

I’m not sure there is a reasonable middle ground. I have yet to hear a “reasonable” position outside of it won’t work and don’t do it. Everything else is censorship that is entirely unnecessary when you have the tools at your disposal to filter anything you wish to.

By that reasoning, we shouldn’t bother having a Police force because now and then we get corrupt or bad cops and hey, it’s better to have vigilante groups going out to maintain control.

I can posit extreme silly examples too. Lets both just stick to logic.

I think the problem, luv, is that we don’t have enough people reporting. :frowning:

Exactly my feeling as well.

you’re right… this is a problem… why do you think it’s your “right” to behave inappropriately in public chat in a T rated game?

do you not have friends?
can’t you mess around with your friends without forcing your brand of “fun” on innocent bystanders?

Because by my standards its not inappropriate. Those are your standards and why should I be held to them when you don’t want the reverse?

Again this is a situation that is easily resolved by the people who take offense at little things doing any number of actions that allow them to filter or block what they don’t wish to see.

I don’t get how people such as yourself view it as your right to silence dissenting opinions, interests, values, or just fun.
