Implement Downvoting

We needed a new system. It’s cheaper and easier to use a pre-built one. They just failed to tweak it to what they needed.

We didn’t “need” a new system. That’s just fiction.

lol. There is an echo chamber already. People get squelched/silenced for minor transgressions all the time. Downvoting without the witch hunting flag/silence system we have now would be better.

We really did. It was old, outdated, took too long to load, needed less server space, etc. That’s why they finally deleted the old system.

No they deleted the old system to get rid of old posts. They should have been archived, but instead, that’s almost 14 years of posts and information, gone!

These new forums suck, lack the diversity, searchability of the old forums, are more unwieldy and difficult to scroll through. The flag system is asinine, there’s no “ignore” feature and you can’t even use many of the provided “emojis” because “reasons.”

People abused the feature and now it’s gone. Simple as that.

So according to your theory , Flagging is being abused… so it’s gona be removed ?

They were archived for a short time. But they wanted to get rid of that server, apparently.

I’m not happy it’s all gone, either. But it is what it is.

And it is a completely unnecessary change done for no sound reason.

Blizzard apparently never heard “if it 'aint broke, don’t fix it.”

Those forums were constantly broken. They wouldn’t load, stuff was bugged and broken, they’d fix something and something else would break…

We needed a new system. Probably not this one, but we needed a new one.

I never had any problems in almost 15 years with the old forums. Obviously neither did many others, as evidenced by the millions of posts to them over the years.

It just upset people so screw it

Actually, they did. We had all sorts of threads for years about the bugs and slowness, etc. Things not working quite right, achievs not showing correctly, forums being down every once in a while, slowness of loading…

This wasn’t isolated. You’re just seeing it with rose colored glasses and forgetting there were issues.

Problems they could have fixed and created their own system, but it was easier to just buy a pre-built one. They just never tweaked it for our specific needs.

Too much herd mentality hive mind nonsense.

Downvotes are fine but people downvote just b/c other people downvoted.

The same can be said for liking because others have liked. As liking is permitted, so should disliking.

No they don’t. They ignore threads if they see downvotes, but I don’t know anyone who just hits a like or dislike button simply because someone else did.

Downvotes breed lack of discussion and topics fall to the bottom when no one replies.

Upvotes breed discussion, because people will either be forced to reply with their discontent over the discussion or they will reply to keep the thread going and keep it in view.

I don’t believe this assumption that disliked topics or replies are ignored is correct. In fact, I find myself more likely to click and view a hidden post than I am to ignore it.

I think a good example of this is this very topic. Most users here disliked it, and it has garnered a fairly large amount of replies.

It is correct. The old forums proved to us that if people see downvotes, they won’t reply, the discussion falls off and no conversation is had.

Downvotes are gone and that’s the end of it.

Well, unfortunately, we cannot view the old forums to confirm this.

Additionally, from my understanding, dislikes on the old forums actually hid replies. I am not suggesting that.

It’s not a “theory”, sweetheart. It was outright stated by the mods as the reason for its removal. People used down votes to silence opinions they didn’t like. It was crappy behavior on the part of the forum users, ergo we lost the feature. Try to pay attention.
