Implement Downvoting

I didn’t mean to imply that’s what you were asking for. I was more trying to express why the system they had wasn’t a good one. I’m in favor of downvotes, but not the way they existed.

It’s not. It’s not an improvement.

The solution to that isn’t really about downvoting, though. The solution to that is to take away automated moderation. Downvoting used it, but downvoting on it’s own doesn’t have to use it.

So it’s not really an argument for or against downvoting. We need to mount an argument against automated moderation. Downvoting is neither here nor there.

If I agree with your talking points, is there anything else I’d need to say?

However if I am in opposition to them there would be something objectionable to which I should make you aware of.

Yeah, you can explain why you agree. Just like you think people should explain why they disagree.

:-1: here you go :stuck_out_tongue:

I can explain why I agree already.

But you don’t have to because you can instead click ‘like.’ The same should exist for the alternative.

Then there is no need for the “like” option either, so we agree. It should be removed and if you agree or disagree with something you should explain why.

And then there would be very little conversation about it, just a bunch of downvotes to hide it.

The point is to use your words. Have a real discussion.

Because I agree with the talking points!

If I disagree I should provide a reason.

You can always like a counter arguement to the point.

How about this:

instead of like we use the word “agree”
Instead of dislike we used the word “disagree”

We keep them on 2 separate places on the post. The poster can choose to hide them from the public. And we stop using flags to screw our fellow human beings over.

Likewise, in topics where one can simply hit ‘like,’ it also results in players not posting and thus less discussion.

You have the option to like a post that disagrees with the main point.

Your opinion is that one should have to explain why they dislike something, but not why they dislike something.

That’s fine, only inconsistent.

Different opinions are the lifeblood of the forums. The like button doesn’t stop that. The like button doesn’t bury a topic.

They don’t have to even do that if they’re lazy. They can always like a post in opposition of the main point.

Where did I say that disliking something should bury a topic?

Anyway, I’m not rallying for the removal of differing opinions.

Similarly, one should be able to dislike arguments they disagree with.

Reddit has downvotes to hide dissenting opinion, you should go there.

Thanks for reading. I’m not suggesting posts be hidden. Oh, and look, my topic has been falsely reported enough to be hidden… again.

Yes and that can be indicated through text or liking text that supports their POV. Doesn’t help discussion just having something disliked.

Js you haven’t shown any value in it.

Nor does just having something liked.
