Lately for some reason the flag thing has been misused a lot more than usual for something, like 5 out of 10 new posts I open are flagged and most of them and I don’t think I’ve seen any that really had to be flagged, all of them were just things people dislike or don’t agree with.
Down vote option was used to silence players opinions, that is reason why it was removed.Any time someone would say something that forum bots didn’t like it would be down voted to oblivion.
I’m going to assume you weren’t there when dislikes happened, it was much worse than flagging, every post who’s title didn’t fit in the hivemind had 10 dislikes without people even reading the post.
The difference is that you could downvote a person’s comment because you disagreed with it.
A flag means they did something that shouldn’t be allowed in the forums.
Big difference.
I disagree with a lot of people’s views or opinions on a particular point, I don’t always agree with Elae for instance. But she ought not be punished because I don’t agree with her on some view of the game.
Then you can just reply to person you disagree with and give your opinion on why you are disagreeing. This is one of big reasons it was removed,it is super easy to slap valid post with down vote then come up with good counter argument .
Then either you’re part of this hivemind or you pay little attention, either way I don’t expect you to formulate a good argument as to why dislikes are better.
I agree with you there, what I’m saying is: what changed from downvoting to flag in terms of people silencing who they don’t agree with?
They took one thing away to add another that basically kept the issue.
I’d agree with it coming back on one condition, that they stop the fictitious upvoting and flagging on alts that has become the norm here. Until then, there is no purpose for it. You are literally giving the same mouth breathers the ability to bury threads like what happened in the past, so instead of flags that get reversed rather quickly, you’d get posts buried by the same ilk downvoting on 49 alts like we see today.
You are right on that, and they made it worse because of the trust level permission.
Its not right that someone should have forum permissions impacted just because a bunch of people disagree.
Fair disclosure, I don’t post much or care about trust levels. But I have seen talkative and generally good posters, that do care about that get punished, and I don’t think that’s right.
Downvoting is gone because it makes people feel bad when they get downvoted.
I think it’s another forced way to control peoples opinions. It’s a lot easier to see how many people disagree with an opinion just by glancing at the likes/dislikes, than it is to scroll through 60,000 posts to read what everyone thinks.
Downvoting needs to be brought back, but I don’t think it ever will be. Too many snowflakes…and I’m not just talking about the ones in a Blizzard
