I have to preface my post by saying that I’m not interested in “ERP” or any of that other promiscuous stuff. Which immediately removes Moon Guard from the equation.
I’m looking for something a bit more serious. Like an actual RP server, if that makes sense. The kind of server where people read quests and are super deep into the whole atmosphere and vibe of the game (I’m not very good at describing things, but hopefully you have a vague idea of what I’m asking here)
Preferably medium-high pop. Might consider low if sounds good.
Moon Guard hosts the largest population of RPers. Disqualifying it because of a small subgroup is kind of insane if you’re really looking to get into RP. You can just avoid Goldshire and you will never encounter unsolicited ERP.
If you’re looking to play Alliance, you should go to MG. Wyrmrest Accord if horde.

Why? MG isn’t an ERP server. It’s an RP server. Just ignore Goldshire’s existence like most roleplayers do.
That would be MG.

WrA is pretty much dead at this point. Almost no one in Org now and very few RP guilds left.

So Moonguard or WRA
This happens on literally every rp server and most basic pve servers.

There’s Moonguard for Alliance, just ignore Goldshire like most serious RPers do, and Wyrmrest Accord for Horde. Those are really your two options. If you really don’t want to RP on Moonguard, then you’ll be playing Horde on Wyrmrest Accord. You could try Alliance, but as someone who used to main on Alliance WRA, it’s super dead now.
thats pretty sad, though ive been a lot less social in general so i haven’t really paid much mind to a decline in population. wyrmrest still feels like my home but if i had to move id probably go to proudmore

There’s almost nothing left of WrA Horde RP. That’s the sad part.
Every once in a while you find some guilds standing around Org, but even then, it’s not that often, it’s very few and I think the recruitment event they used to do even died.
WrA stopped being my home when I was nice enough to give the original guild leads back their roles when they came back after a decade… and then they harassed me out of the guild I kept alive and thriving for them.
Moved all my characters to my little server group on Sentinels after that.
Why?
Unless you are in goldshire, you won’t ever encounter erp.
OP never came back. Wondering if this was a troll thread to try to trigger people over “Moon Guard ERP.”

Oh, well rip to that I guess. I’m guessing in Midnight we’ll see an explosion in belf/nightborne rp, but not sure if that will stabilize past that expac or die out in TLT. I main Alliance but I do have a few Horde characters on WRA, but don’t play them much.

i think it’s realistic to expect to fizzle out post midnight, but i am permanently moving into silvermoon and leaving orgrimmar behind. i long for the tall golden trees with the sad cello music

In my recent experience, I’m going to have to disagree with you here.
I’ve seen a reasonable amount of RP going on in Orgrimmar any time I log on to a horde character and go there. Mostly in the Valley of Honor, but there’s a usually nice crowd around the inn there.
Now my opinion of what is a “reasonable amount” may be different than others, so your mileage may vary.

MG is good. But everyone naked in Goldshire should be transferred to a prison server like Drunder in EQ2.

WrA is just…so quiet now a days. I was looking for a more chatty Horde server, I don’t think Moonguard has a big Horde pop right?
wow used to have a secret underground prison beneath a faraway island off the coast of northwestern kalimdor. the gm’s would teleport players to the prison and make them sit in a chair while interrogating them for possible rule violations and such
It’s tiny and kind of lame.
OP, if you’re real:
Moon Guard - Alliance despite your opposition to it.
Where there is RP there is ERP. That’s just a fact. Goldshire is a standout, but it’s an easily avoided standout (and the stuff going on OUTSIDE the inn is generally solid social or PvP stuff, too. There’s legitimately districts over there).
If this were a decade ago one might say WRA - Alliance would be the better choice for you, but WRA-A died a painful death during BfA (and you could see it coming before then).

To which direction RP should go? There are 3 options based on the player you might be. So, lets ask a few questions:
-
Are you new to WoW or have not played in several or more years? Hang up now and go to FFXIV, Balmung server. The genre of FFXIV is very similar to WoW and is considered to be its sister game. The cosmetics is a bit nicer. If you are looking to get your feet wet with good ol’ slice of life type role play, this is the best option if you are a new or returning player.
-
Moon Guard, Alliance is probably the better of two choices on WoW. There are more choices for walk-ups, small groups, generally more accepting of new players and novice alike. If you play an Alliance or neutral character, this is the go to.

Wyrmrest Accord, Horde. WRA is a mixed bag, per my own experience. There are TONS of RP in large group format…if you can find it that is! Most of the events are locked behind several dozen Discord servers being ran by only 4 or 5 players. This can lead to a player having to first know what server the event is listed on, being on at a certain time, then finding the player running the event to whisper for invites. After all that, some often do fall through the cracks not being able to get in. This is far from ideal for new and returning players.
What is the future of RP on WoW? Likely, Moon Guard will soon become the last RP server. With only a small handful of player running the events on WRA, all it takes is for a few to stop logging in thus causing the entire RP scene to finally vacate the server or quit WoW. If RPers start using the housing system to further gate keep RP, it is likely the playstyle will go extinct entirely.
