It’s pretty clear there is, if you’re not a part of it that’s a you problem.
but the Classic population is apparently not meant to be in Classic. All of us who prefer ease over purity belong on retail, despite being the majority of the actual player base. Minority / theoretical players are more important for the ‘spirit of classic’ than those playing Classic.
It’s pretty clear there is, if you’re not a part of it that’s a you problem.
How can there be a server-wide community when most of the server is excluded from it? At what point does it stop being server-wide and is just an echo chamber of people who think alike and pretend to speak for the server as a whole?
The whole “retail player” vs. “classic player” thing is so dumb. For the most part, they’re the same player. Elitism because of some preferred “spirit” like you said is one of the corniest things this game has experienced
Server size has nothing to do with it, case and point FFXIV (an inherently more social game) has way more people per shard than classic; they still have server reps and communities.
They definitely have rdf in that game, but the playerbase is different and if you examine a lot of ffxivs systems they’re designed around fostering community, even in the systems I don’t necessarily like.
Hyperbole
So this is more hyperbole. The devs here are “corny” too. This is the design philosophy so you might wanna take the L and cut your losses
But the nature of said servers is indeed a mass of nameless NPCs who will very unlikely see each other more than twice. There is even a large amount of spanish speakers on Faerlina who cant read english thus cutting themselves off from most of the realm.
Compare the active users on any server discord with the listed population for those servers and its clear those “server wide” communities are just a tiny self-important fraction who designated themselves representatives of a server where most people have no idea who they are or that they exist.
Now you’re just gaslighting me.
Most of the server isn’t. I see more guild tags I intimately know than I don’t. I pug people constantly I can make small talk with bc I like their gm, or their hunter just got a leggo.
While imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I never said you had no reason to be upset. It’s tough not getting what we want huh?
He is gaslighting me, right? Guys?
Thats incorrect. After you all leave that can be achieved and probably will. See Classic Era as an example. Small but great community.
Maybe thats Blizzards intent after all.
even if you knew directly a couple hundred people, thats still less than 10% the size of a realm like mine. So 90% of the server or more isn’t “in the community”, yet said community would be “server wide”. Ridiculous.
See Classic Era as an example. Small but great community.
Example of not being worth the cost of running servers. Killing off the cloning service should be indication enough, its going to go away sooner or later because it just isn’t sustainable. So, if Wrath bleeds subs because the population they are aiming for happens to not be there, they’ll follow the money just as fast as they announced no RDF.
I might be wrong, a large untapped market of old-world chasing clout-valueing players might be brought back due to RDF’s removal. But I doubt it.
Gaslighting is when someone tries to manipulate you into believing youre imagining the problem you’re bringing up.
I’ve never said anything about your issues with rdf being “non issues” or imaginary
This is a strawman. The community isn’t just “people I personally know”, it’s “people who know people who know people who know me”
I graduated from a class with way more people than I could know in a school with way more people than I could even recognize. Were we not in a community together?
This is a gaslight
Mocking is trolling. I have an ignore button
Small is right, smaller than a family thanksgiving get together.
It wasnt Blizzards intent, they were tricked into thinking lots wanted classic forever.
Just like how people do that to do BG’s? There’s no difference. it’s the same thing. So, what, you can’t wpvp anymore? That’s the real reason you are happy it’s gone from a leveling standpoint. Because you can harass lower-level players.
I’d doubt that. I wouldn’t even consider my whole class a ‘community’ and we were like 30. There was a clear 3-way split more or less, and beyond common courtesy we couldnt care any less if one of our classmates suddenly dissappeared to never return again. Actually, a couple did, never cared to find out what happened to them. Probably dropped due to kids or work, who knows.
A ‘community’ is more than just being aware of a person’s existence or being signed on the same discord. But even if you apply such a tenuous criteria, my server’s discord has like 8k people on it (who care enough to select a faction role, thats like bare minimum). Last census puts Faerlina at over 22k, which means unlogged people will probably put it at 25k or more. How is close to a third of the people a “server wide community” while the vast majority of players are just ‘wrong’ and ‘against the spirit of classic’?
Mega servers are just amalgamations of nameless NPCs with no server identity and no community. Locking yourself in isolated pockets to pretend they aren’t isnt going to change that fact.
Its fine if you want to believe that but that’s not really your call. A small community on fewer servers who will pay you for years and not stupidly make your job harder is better financially than a larger one on a few mega servers who are just gonna burn through everything ASAP, force you to spend time and money making game changes to prevent their game wrecking behavior and be gone the second the new shiny comes out.
Cloning never should of been a thing in the first place. Totally dumb move on their part in both theory and practice.
Ultimately everything goes the way of the dinosaur but it can be later, much later, with the right people.
