20 years of Ret/Prot being horrible. These two roles of the class were designed back in 2004 with the intent they would be used. Obviously there was some major short comings that were only fixed once TBC came out.
For the TWENTY year anniversary realms, now is the chance to make small minor tweaks to allow them to at least SOMEWHAT be in the game.
They could be anything. Not SOD level, but just enough.
Out of all the “changes” that could happen to classic overtime. Class changes probably aren’t up on that list anytime soon. SOD did do class changes and pallies are great there so if you want pally class fantasy go play it there.
Ret is still fun in classic and Holy is a awesome healer. Only thing I would argue is to give pallies a taunt but that’s about it.
This isn’t about spec identity. Classic was based on actual class identity and Paladin are primarily a support which means they are best at just that, support, and less about full on damage or tanking. They are literally just like the WC3 hero they are based on. Your problem is with the community at large being a parsing cancer than Paladin not being the best. They are able to pull benchmark dps and more on raid fights as Blizzard designed the game to be done that way. We old folk have proven it back in the day clearing the content when it was actually hard at a patch by patch phase, people are the problem.
No, it’s the fact Ret was designed to be the damage dealer and it has nothing except auto attack. Even if it was middle or trash it’d be better if you had something to do skill based wise than just watch a bar go up.
Ret does deal more damage than the other two specs, and more damage than the Paladin would do without it. Mission accomplished. Not everything has to be an absolute powerhouse in order to succeed. You’re demanding spec identity and Classic is not about spec identity. It’s the class as a whole.
