Ignore on the forums needs rework

No.

That idea, let alone that attitude, is not conducive to a place literally designed for discussion of game related topics. There is a difference between in game chat and a literal public forum built for the discussion of ideas.

Regardless of if you like or dislike what someone says, simply removing all traces of their presence to create an echo chamber where only you can see what you want to see does not benefit the greater discussion as a whole.

The forums are someplace you willingly come and exist as a place to share feedback and ideas. They are not your personal club house or safe space.

If a person is being harassed, actually harassed and not just upset someone is saying something they don’t like, then use the report feature. However, at the end of the day this is a place of discussion and idea sharing and cutting out discussion through an ignore feature does not belong here. If you want an echo chamber of agreement the join a community, discord, or guild with those are views.

That’s not the purpose, though.

The purpose is precisely to avoid trolls derailing threads and to have a normal conversation with agreements and disagreements.

Why you would think this has to do with “echo chambers” goes beyond me. I wouldn’t even be here if I wanted an echo chamber.

Cool, then maybe this isn’t about you sweetie.

This just isn’t a problem. The only reason this guy even knows they are alts is because the person is making them with almost the same name to troll him. They need to learn how to use that flag button.

I have never seen this done on this forum.

and this is that OP, I hope they consider maybe how they are handling things is the issue.

Well its for people like you who use 5 alts to post with so i can ignore all your insults and inane posts .

Ignore exists to ignore people.

Echo chamber? What are you talking about? I want to ignore people that regularly go out of their way to be rude or cause problems and there is no “echo chamber” created in removing those people from my own personal experience.

There are too many people that constantly contribute nothing and get reported and nothing ever happens, or if they do get suspended they’re back in the 3 days doing it all over again.

The report feature can not and does not replace an ignore feature.

I can’t even begin agree with what you’ve said, but I wouldn’t use ignore over it.

The problem with the flag button is that you’re not allowed to give further context of why you’re flagging it. And when you contact Customer Support they just tell you to flag it.

And then nothing happens, no action is taken, and certain trolls still hunt you through other threads.

It’s really annoying.

This here, I couldn’t have expressed it better.

Thats literally what the flag feature exists for. If their posts are actually rude or causing problems it will get taken care of. Key word being “actually”.

Also, bologna, you people know exactly what I mean about making an echo chamber.

if it is trolling then why would you need to give further context ? I would also like to point out people don’t KNOW you are ignoring them unless you tell them - so they wouldn’t know to switch characters. So I am going to guess that European poster has probably been trolling the trolls and now wants blizzard to solve the problem.

I actually don’t understand the issue. I’ve been playing wow since 2007. I’ve never ignored anyone. I just see whatever and pay them no mind. It’s like life - you can’t just get rid of someone but you can stop caring what they say or think.

No, most of the time it does not. Look at the first page here with the literal dozens of troll threads.

Also, smoked turkey, I have no idea how me ignoring an individual for my own personal experience creates an echo chamber for literally anyone. Me choosing to ignore someone doesn’t put them on ignore for anyone else.

And what do you mean “you people?” Don’t speak to me like that.

don’t read them if you think they are troll threads - I actually looked and I don’t even see a dozen, nevermind about ‘literal’ dozens.

Also, why do so many of ‘you people’ who want to control things, so often post like this.

If someone is a stalker or licensed troll, why would someone want to see their posts? He’s not asking for an echo chamber. He didn’t say “people who disagree with me”.

Why are you following me from thread to thread quoting me out of context?

This is a prime example of what the ignore feature is for.

You have brought nothing to this conversation, and your only reason for even inserting yourself into this conversation is to argue with me.

Go away.

And of course since your profile is hidden, you can’t be put on ignore with knowing how to work around it. Which is likely the reason you’ve done it.

Thanks for proving that ignore needs to be fixed.

The ideal for me would be:

  • You could ignore entire IPs and accounts
  • Topics created by people you’ve ignored are automatically muted
  • and vice versa; topics you create are automatically muted for everyone you’ve ignored
  • People who I have ignored don’t see my posts at all so they don’t waste their time replying to them
  • The “view X ignored replies” becomes a small button out of the way of the thread.
  • There is a setting allowing people to not see replies to people they have ignored or posts containing quotes from people they’ve ignored.
  • Option to ignore someone as one of the “flag post” options. That way, people can ignore hidden profiles more easily and there will be less false flagging.

And also: no more classic characters can post on non-classic forums, sorry! Retail character required.

You can go to your user settings and manually add names to your ignore list.

I wasn’t following you from thread to thread - don’t flatter yourself.

However, I did look at your posting history because ‘you people’ tend to be great rule breakers yourself.

This.

I could link several posts that are direct insults, name calling, etc that are still here despite being reported.

While I have nothing against ignore lists and such, I’ve found that I have no problem with ignoring folks the good old-fashioned way. You know, by actually ignoring them.

I love that you picked out that I don’t like being referred to as “you people” so you’ve repeatedly done it just to be rude to me, a complete stranger, for no reason whatsoever.

Really shows how cool you are irl.

I remembered, and edited my post.

It’s still a pain, and if someone doesn’t know that they aren’t likely to know to look for it.

Edit: And it also doesn’t always work. I added the person trolling me in this thread, and their posts are still showing for me and I’m still being notified that they’re responding to me.
