If you're unsubbing, consider this

TDLR: Blizzard needs to be held accountable. Unsubbing because of Blizzards toxicity is your choice, but you should realize that your moral standards are usually only applied to life when it’s convenient. Instead of burning blizz to the ground, we should realize that every company we spend money on is guilty of negativity in the world. Picking and choosing battles is easy, but how far does your moral justice go when you’re responsible for funding suffering that far outweighs the actions of Blizzard?

Blizzard is possibly (I originally said undoubtedly) guilty of the death of at least one person, sexual harassment, and a toxic culture - not to mention burying all of this while delivering a subpar product in retail.

There’s no denying this, and they’re going to have to make serious amends and have a complete overhaul if we’re ever going to have our faith restored - and some of us will never return anyways.

I want to make a point, however. Many people will be unsubbing because their money has been supporting a toxic, dangerous culture. But let’s take a step back and look at where our other money goes - to movie theaters, banks, groceries, cars, living spaces, etc.

Refusing to spend your money on toxicity is commendable, but ultimately impossible. Our love of movies puts money in the pockets of Hollywood, while we choose to ignore the sexual degradation of children and women that thrives there.

Our need for banks creates massive international slush funds for grifters that generates incomprehensible monetary imbalance and global theft that leaves millions in unfair debt.

Our love of meat and produce creates a massive factory of slavery and death that uncaringly slaughters billions of living creatures every year.

Our need for furniture depletes entire ecosystems in the Amazon on a monthly basis.

Our fondness for travel and gasoline is destroying our entire planet at an increasing, seemingly unstoppable rate.

So let me ask you this - when was the last time you spent money at the movie theaters? At the grocery store? At the gas station?

Unsubscribing from a company over toxicity is an applaudable gesture. But if you really knew where your money was going, you’d probably unsubscribe from life as well.

That being said, WoW is a game that has held our affection for many years and it’s sickening to see Blizzard as a flawed, toxic group.

If you truly refuse to support toxicity, then destroy your internet router and hike on foot to the mountains somewhere and get off the grid. This world is bathed in bloodshed and gluttony and our addiction to consumerism supports all of it happily.

This is not meant to belittle the actions of Blizzard, but let those who are free of supporting negativity be the first to point fingers.

It’s contradictory and foolish to refuse to spend money on things that perpetuate pain and intolerance when we all gladly throw money at companies that are much more sinister, guilty, and deceitful than Blizzard.

The only sensible thing to really argue is that we do not need WoW to live, yet we need other essential, corrupt services to do so. It’s inescapable, really.

Welcome to the world.

Too late, unsubbed four months ago. I’m only here until August 5.

WoW is not an essential and I’m taking my money elsewhere.

What a horrible end. Calling it here.

That’s why I’m not judging people who continue to sub. Hell I may resub in the future. But at least for now I’m done for a while. It’s not like the product we are receiving is even good. there are a lot of other games out there whose companies haven’t had a scandal like this.

I don’t mean to be snarky, but why is it every time someone tries to do the right thing, others will put the weight of the world on their shoulders and tell them to haul that as well? It is commendable that people will do anything at all, no matter how insignificant, don’t you agree?

I can’t save the world but I CAN unsub. No need to boil the ocean. Just do what you can.

I just find it very ironic and pretty helpless that we devote so much money to evil and have the gall to pick and choose what we find worthy of criticizing. I just wanted to remind people to get off of their high horse when we all mostly contribute to widescale suffering. Boiling the ocean isnt necessary, but neither is draining it and claiming innocence either.

Never claimed to be. For me, this just hits too close to home.

I don’t need a constant reminder of the past in my face.

Honestly, I have to have a real talk with my people come the weekend. I find myself struggling to remain subbed with such information now out there, and I imagine most of my people will be in the same boat. Most of us are married, engaged, or have been with our significant others for years at this point. Some of those spouses, fiancees and significant others are in the raid team such as my girlfriend who wants nothing to do with Blizzard anymore, and I cannot blame her for such an outlook.

Frostwolf Banditos may be moving on this weekend to other games. We’ll change the name. But we’ll still be a community. We’ll just be in a community in a place we’re more comfortable in. Or, maybe something else happens that shows us we can remain with Blizzard. But based on what I read? I don’t think that’ll be the outcome.

Really do you know more then was alleged in the lawsuit? Because at this point nothing is know bu the accusations, this needs to be followed with evidence so that we can draw a conclusion as to whether those claims are true or not.

I see it more as everything has to die so other people have a chance to experience the world. However the quality life of most creatures is very questionable to be honest. There are even plenty of humans that have really crappy lives in the world being a human that managed to not be born in the middle of a warzone is like winning the lottery already.

We can and I imagine some of us do take steps in the right direction for those other things you have mentioned too.

I imagine in a society where we could all easily do those things we would.

I grew up being driven to work but I have intentionally bought my own home close to work so that I can walk. I use a backpack and a push scooter to get my shopping.

I do have a bank account but I don’t think that is obviously going to cause as much issues as the other or is at a level I can alter without negativity impacting myself.

WoW is similar, my last day is August 16th. Already playing other games but I will miss my Draenei characters muchly. Especially my retail Draenei priest ;-;

There are claims of alleged wrongdoing by blizzard but I’ll leave that up to the courts to settle, not the WOW forums.

Yeah, there’s a lot of people on high horses that don’t seem to realize even a small fraction of the horror in this world

Edit: I’d also like for them to preserve their innocence for as long as possible though

We live in a time now where instead of “innocent until proven Guilty” it’s “Guilty until proven Innocent”.

Is it possible what’s in the lawsuit is true? Probably. As to how bad, that remains to be seen by us, the public. It may already be proven or disproven already by sides. We don’t know.

Sad thing is, as with a lot of things, no matter what you’re guilty even if proven innocent.

Now this isn’t to say what’s in the lawsuit is a lie. I don’t know. But I think where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Just remains to be seen how bad that fire is. Fall out is going to be bad.

It could be they need to change things and no doubt pay compensation. I’ll say this much,
if I’d been working there and treated like some of the women claim, I’d be gone.

I took a lot of crap at a job once. From both customers and my employer.

When I say we don’t know how bad it actually is… I need to say…It’s bad to be treated that way at all. Please do not get me wrong. When I say how bad…is it even worse than what’s been reported or is just bad.

And if,op, i use that mentality for everything in the world my money wouldn’t help those that are in need of it. Just because one bad doesn’t mean the money I give isn’t going to someone that needs it think of all the people as a chain each on has a need do i cut it so the others can’t have ? I don’t think that would solve the problem ,the problem need to be solve by the people that created this one.

uhh, do we know the lady who offed themselves and can guarantee that the harassment they suffered by their former coworkers was the actual cause of her death? I mean the OP’s claim that blizzard is outright guilty of such a thing =/= what I’ve been able to gather so far.

I mean sure. A toxic work environment is not going to help anybody but without all the facts being given. My google fu isn’t up to snuff to find more concrete details outside of the allegations in that document. So I’ll hold my judgement until the courts sort that out.

Nah dude unsubbing is the only way players can really send the message to the company that their actions aren’t something we want to support. Yah there’s bad stuff everywhere, but if unsubbing makes someone feel like they have a tiny bit of control in this garbage toxic corporate world, then hell yah grab that power.

It’s basically what prompted the 2 year investigation wtf is wrong with you. And even if it wasn’t the only reason, what a disgusting callous attitude to suggest that “oh the courts said its fine so no problem”. Idiot

yes prompted the investigation.

Prompting an investigation =/= guilt. It’s the law’s job to do that.
