If you're on an intel mac and not crashing, post here

if you claim to have a working game on an intel mac, post here.

but i doubt you are telling the truth, because it seems the inferior chip has been prioritised at the expense of the robust one.

post your gx.log in

please.

here’s mine (not working)

yeah im on a 2019 intel Mac and its working.

albeit some in game options arent. Sorry to hear youre having issues. I suspect youve already tried to disable all addons etc?

I’m on 12.6.1 and it’s working on my 2019 Intel 27" iMac so far, aside from some characters getting stuck on the load screen (which doesn’t seem system specific according to the other support threads). You most likely need to update your OS. I think Catalina, the one after yours, was completely unplayable and crashing when 9.2 came out and I had to update to Monterey. It says 10.15 is minimum specs required and you have 10.14. Unfortunately, a new OS just came out yesterday so you might have to weather that storm of bugs, but hopefully it is working as well.

this is very weird stuff.

i think it has to do with this line, and some change to how the graphics are handled

10/25 20:38:54.671 Render Settings Changed. New Render Size: 1920x1080 (2560x1440 @ 75.0%)

on patch 9.x this is what i would usually get

10/17 17:17:15.334 Detected Graphics Defaults: 5 (CPU = 7, GPU = 5, MEM = 7) WindowSize: 2560x1440
10/17 17:17:15.456 Render Settings Changed. New Render Size: 2560x1440
10/17 17:17:16.834 Render Settings Changed

i don’t think an OS update will fix the issue. someone on monterey had the same problem:

https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/macos-instant-crash-at-launching/389135/8

it has to do with how graphics are being handled. the render size parameters changed or something.

macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) on a 2015 Intel 15" MacBook Pro and it works fine in windowed mode other than the “not-supported” warning when starting. Full screen mode is a slideshow though.

interesting, thanks for the information.

care to share your “gx.log” file?

it’s in the _ retail _ / logs folder

i tried -windowed as a command line argument but it doesn’t seem to work.

thsi is a flat out disaster man

this is very strange. i have read from windows users that they are able to use the ‘-d3d11legacy’ switch. we cannot get away doing the same with ‘-metal’. there has to be some other flag for “metal_legacy” or something.

edit: yes i was making a post but it seems those who have it working all have the hybrid “auto-switching” graphics (i.e. multiple adapters)

how are you using an RX 590 on a macbook? edit2: question answered.

everyone who seems to have it working has a multiple-adapter configuration i suspect.

i wonder if the game starts with the integrated GPU and switches over, which allows it to be successful. i don’t think you an ‘force’ the macbook to use the discrete GPU (like you can in bootcamp) can you? it has to do that switch on its own when the load gets up there?

Updated. I have an external GPU via Thunderbolt 2 (Razer Core X with PurgeWrangler) but I could switch to the internal discrete card while the game was running and it rendered as well.

If you use ‘gfxCardStatus’ (free) it can force integrated or discrete, but not which particular discrete card if you have two like me.

I guess it would start okay if we could get it to launch in windowed mode? Aw man.

Nothin to do with it. 10.0 added far more verbose logging so the freeze issues could be fixed on beta that affected all macs. That’s why you see a lot more lines. As for why 10.15 is crashing for users, I did pass that on to be looked at.

lala: how do you set gfxCardStatus in config.wtf?

do you have any other ideas on how to play with the metal flags? you sound like you have some knowledge on the valid gfxCard variables for config.wtf

You don’t set that in the config.wtf. It’s a third party utility. You can find it here: https://gfx.io/

Disclaimer: This is not software endorsed or provided by Blizzard or Apple. Although it should be genuinely safe as it’s been around for years, use at your own risk.

We had severe issues in beta with freezing and crashing but it was mostly resolved a couple weeks ago.

Haven’t been able to log in to beta in at least a week (real life has limited my WoW time so I’ve been levelling alts and doing Hallow’s Eve stuff in the little time I’ve had).

Logged in today (live game) and, while I’m not crashing, the game is (as someone else mentioned below) just a slide show. Going from SL zones to Dalaran (Legion era) improved slightly but not to the point the game is playable.

2020 27" iMac here, seems to be working fine for me so far no crashes.

Ok based on your response I SOLVED the issue. Fortunately for me I have another another mac that’s working so I copied all the folders and files in the WTF folder and added them to the same directory on my mac that was not working and then booted up the game. Worked like a charm!

If there was a way to attach the files here I would so others could pull from here.

What if your wtf is empty because you reinstalled?

this isn’t a proper fix man. even with the latest patch if i remove this line the game crashes.

the problem with the fix is that i can’t see the login screen at all. the game opens and my screen remains my desktop. i only know wow is running because the taskbar shows Wow. but i have to usually command-tab out, and command-tab back in to see the character screen.

yes it’s better than nothing but i thought the patch to 46340 would have fixed this.

can you please tell them to hurry up?

edit: i also noticed if you try to view the dragonflight cinematic at the character screen (bottom right button) you’ll crash the game.

I’ve got both a 2020 Mac Mini (Intel) and a 2018 Macbook Pro (Intel) and they both run WoW just fine, although the Mini had some REALLY bad stuttering after I upgraded to Ventura. I’ve gotten around that by switching to “Metal (Legacy)” in-game, but I’m not sure what I’m missing as a result.
