If you could only have one toon

If you could only have one toon, in WOW, what would it be and why?

I am trying to cull the number and types of alts that I have, to be able to focus on making one better, and if anyone else has done something like this, what did you keep and why?

Many Thanks for Your Thoughts & Help!

I have to choose it’s between mage and warrior. Those two are more or less all I play.

Probably mage.

I went through this dilemma in DF and was getting sick of making alts with my play time starting to evaporate. I ultimately decided on the paladin for multiple reasons. Fun to play, looks good, class fantasy fits well with the saving the world storyline, and the class has great utility. When out soloing you have damage, heals, rez, bubbles, and also the ability to switch between tank, heals, damage. Seemed like a solid pick for one character to focus on.

This one, been my main since wrath and really haven’t played any other classes remotely serious since then

For you, I would say pick the character you enjoy the most.

I played a mage for years, but that character is second fiddle to my Shaman now (a carbon copy of this one on another server). If I HAD to delete everything else my mage would lose now, as much as I still enjoy the class, I just enjoy Shaman a little bit more.

I’m still holding out for Shaman to get a tanking spec so I can play EVERYTHING on a single character.

Either my paladin or my monk.
Or my fury warrior.
Or my hunter.

Maaaaybe my demo lock.

Or my frost mage . . .

I could copy/paste this exact verbiage for me and this Paladin. It would be extremely easy to just play one toon, because that’s already all I really play.

I’m down to four characters to fit inside the warband which are themetic for the warband camp. Sorta. :carpentry_saw::robot:

…there’s a tiny bit of doubt if the mechagnomes fit the Gallywix warband screen but i’m just as golden. Might ask a goblin main someday. :robot::thought_balloon:

Alts are something I struggle with.

What class I stick with boils down to a few factors:

  • At least 2 specs with a gameplay hook that I love. (…so I can alternate when I’ve exhausted one spec).
  • 1 spec is solo tanky, but not necessarily a tank. (I’m mostly a solo player, so it’s nice to have a tanky option if things get hard)
  • Good transmog / Race combos (If I get bored with current content, I can fall back on farming old content for mogs)

This really covers my basis so I don’t get bored and try to do alts a lot.

My Priest.

Because Holy Magic rocks.

Probably this warrior for me. Runner up would be my paladin and then my hunter.

I just find that this character has the most variety for me when fitting to expansion themes. You can play into a lot of different vibes with warrior/fighter archetypes in fantasy settings like this.

I love a shaman in theory. Has a lot going for it. I love enhance and resto. Elemental doesn’t jive with me currently. I love running around as a ghost dog

Also I wish Shaman was available for humans.

I just wish they would stop the cycle of buffing and nerfing it.

One minute it’s powerful the next minute it hits like a wet noodle.

Pick a lane, Blizz. I would like to go ranged once in a while and know I can hit as hard as I do in melee.

Yeah, agreed wholeheartedly. I feel bad for even picking elemental when I know Enhance is so much better.

Probably my ooooold main from Vanilla, my troll Hunter.

He’s since been retired as of Legion, but I’d dust him off and play him again if I had only one character.

Too many memories on him.

I have been a priest main since I started playing years ago. I have added some alts along the way but I am always a priest main. So, I would pick her 100%.

I spent more than three weeks building a spreadsheet that did a complete comparison on self-sufficiency, capability, and the subjective version of what I found fun. At the end of it, I discovered the following and have loved it ever since:

Race: Mechagnome. The racials are too good to pass up.
Class: Mage. Teleportation was strong for ease of movement through 10 DLCs
Professions: Mining / ENG. all of the self-help tools like wormhole generators and diving helmets, plus the remote mailbox and Jeeves.

The only two things I can’t do with this specific combo is pick pockets and stay in Stealth.
