WoW got gnomes, walking trashcans, goblins, and foxes, ffxiv got potato-people, blade’n’soul got little half-animal people, and tera got slightly-taller half-animal girls.
pretty sure everyone aside from WoW got bootleg gnomes.

Oh yeah, I’d just love to have to wear the same clothing until it earned my character’s stank just to be able to blow it up and craft other things, but be careful! you have to time your crafting because that’s not stupid or anything.
Why are you responding to me like I’m anti-story?
I’ve given you many examples of good stories.
A Realm Reborn is not a good story. It is time-wasting filler arc bs.
Lol what reality are you living in
Have you heard of the dark portal pass my good sir?
I think FF should stick to being FF and WOW should stick to being WOW. They aren’t the same and should never try to be the other.
Because you call ARR a “filler arc” after I literally said it sets up the rest of the story.
I mean imagine playing any trilogy and skipping the 1st game and then expecting to know what’s going or being involved in the story.
WTH did I just watch
Lol i liked this comment.
I would love it if everything you have to learn about in novels was actually told in game. but that’s just me.
The only reason I’ve ever made an alt was for extra bank space back in the day. I think I made one for a few weeks on another server when a co-worker was playing. I just never had the time nor did I see the need really to make another character, I guess I always had stuff I haven’t done yet on my main… I re-subbed a couple months ago and can see why a lot more people have alts nowadays though… doesn’t take nearly as long to do stuff anymore. still not my thing though. Although I am possibly thinking of making a character on one of the classic games. just not sure which one yet.
You want story? Story in your RPG?! Outrageous!
Again imagine if you wanted to play critically acclaimed Mass Effect 2, you bought it and are excited to play, but before you can play it you are forced to play through all of janky Mass Effect 1, and not just the main story, but every insert filler back-and-forth time wasting side quest as well. Or pay an extra $$ to skip Mass Effect 1 and get right to the Mass Effect 2 goodness you paid for already.
That’s how FFXIV is currently structured.
There are ways around story summaries and catch-ups. The entertainment industry figured this out decades ago. This comes down to Squenix greed, laziness, and the FFXIV community being stubborn.
The only actual time gating is having to be of level to accept the next quest. You can skip all of the dialogue, and you only have to do it once to play every single class. The story, and a few side quests, along with a few POIs allow you to gain flying at your own discretion. You also have to buy a boost to get into new content in WoW, you don’t start in SL, or just have a character you’ve been playing, just like in WoW. Also, not sure why you assume the FF crowd is dishonest just because they like that game? All in all, I’d give this a 3/10. Some decent points, but you contradict yourself, and the points made are pretty obviously done so to cause contrary comments, and nothing else.
ME1>ME2
But your overall point is valid.
Again, imagine playing WoW and having to play through any of their old irrelevant stories to get to the current content. Oh wait, you literally do. Unless you buy a boost you literally have to play through an old xpac to level in wow. Stories which all have literally nothing to do with the current story. None of the xpac stories are a single coherent story that’s any good. They’re a bunch of zone stories that you have to do to get to the main story at the end.
You, my friend, just went on an emotional rollar coaster!
I’m sorry this drastically understates how poorly designed ARR’s content is. Imagine if you had to play through every World of Warcraft story quest from Vanilla to Shadowlands…in order…without skipping…hundreds of hours of quests…from beginning to end…every time. Or buy a skip.
That is FFXIV.
I think you’re just getting so used to play WOW dude, if skipping the main story that you only have to play once in your entire life is what you think they should do then idk what to tell you.

Basically yeah.
FF is indefensible in how poor it handles its catch-up tbh.
I know little about FF14 (other than not liking it when I tried it) but I have a question:
Say you make just your one character, you complete all the questing, level up all the crafts you might want, collect all the major things you want and do all the group content - what do you do then? I mean, assuming there isn’t new content coming out in the near future. What does the game provide for you on your single character?
