Imagine for a second that to get to the end game in wow you had to complete everything (EDIT: Storywise) for every previous expansion. And doing this meant endless hours of tedious fetch quests that were timegated by cinematics, loading screens, and hell even the quest text itself taking forever to get through before you could actually start the damned quest.
Now imagine that wow were offering a cheeky paid boost that allowed you to skips the 100s of hours of mandatory content you needed to do before you could actually get to the fun part of any mmo.
Imagine the freaking uproar.
Instead to get to end game requires a relatively quick and painless leveling process that can be done easily on a lazy Saturday. If you really want to you can skip it with a boost to Max level but it really doesn’t take that long if you can’t afford/ don’t want to pay.
The wow community might have many faults, but at least it’s honest, unlike the FFXIV community.
Yeah they do. OP’s point is that in FF14 you essentially would have to purchase multiple level boosts to get to the current content if you didn’t want to slog through EVERY quest
AFAIK leveling in that game is a one time thing since you can be any class on a single character, in the long run, boosting for WOW would cost more of your money.
I hear this said a fair bit. Thing is, I like alts. They are different characters with different histories. A Gnome’s history is different from a Troll and from a Void Elf, and so on. That individual racial background is what makes the races unique.
Having just one toon - and in fact it being the preference - seems somehow very limiting to me.
Imagine being in charge of the story, crafting this elaborate over arching grand tale and then someone says “Nah here’s $25, I aint got time for all that crap”
Although imagine if you have to keep doing annoying chores in a system for an expansion which will get scrape every new expansion, as well as all the new skills you earned. Do this for every single class… How long will it take you to just give up because it is too boring and pointless?
The Maw intro quest should have a catchup since it is primarily a story introduction to fill you in on what has happened and what you are doing there. If you - as a person - already know that story, then there is zero reason to do it again.
It’s a bit different if it is content that provides a benefit to your character (beyond a little experience). But my memory works pretty good, I don’t need to be filled in on that bit of lore every time I want to put an alt into Shadowlands.
Im like 100% the opposite of you, everytime i do covenant renown quest all that im thinking is “This is so trash i have to do this for my alt as well?!”
Well, thats a bit different to the Maw intro, isn’t it, which was what we were just talking about.
Renown and Callings provide a benefit to your alt. But right here I should say that I don’t like makework myself, there is way too much repeatable content in WoW and they need to completely adjust their thinking on how the game should work.
Imagine for a second actually knowing what you’re talking about. You don’t need to complete everything from the previous xpacs in FFXIV. You need to complete the main story but that story isn’t everything.
Like WoW doesn’t have endless hours of tedious fetch quests that aren timegated by literal time gates and rep grinds and flight paths, etc.
Like WoW doesn’t also have a boost that allows you to skip to the current xpac.
The gnomes in FFXIV are cuter.
Except you wouldn’t have to purchase multiple boosts.
You don’t need to redo them. The roulettes give very good xp and allow you to lvl alt jobs quickly.
