Hello, now I know that there has been some sort of leak recently regarding the WoW token in TBC Classic. This post isn’t necessarily in reaction to that, I’ve felt this way from the beginning, but I’d like to say I’m aware that there are many reasons the image might have been found if indeed it wasn’t faked.
I have played a bit of Vanilla Classic and plan to play the hell out of TBC Classic. Found myself a pretty cool guild to go into raiding with, and have a capped rogue to PvP with.
I love leveling, dungeons, and just everything about these versions of the game. Finally I have the free time for it too.
I am very against the boost, but I was willing to let that slide since the content is still good. That being said if there is ever a WoW token sold for TBC Classic I will quit. I already dislike Blizzard for a variety of reasons yet I was willing to try Classic TBC out to play with my friends, however ruining Classic with a token would be the end for me.
Blizzard no longer knows how to make games. All they have are mediocre programmers and decent artists who are strung along by their passion for the faded memory of once great games that have been replaced by soulless, corporate, penny-pinching installments in utterly exploited and ruined franchises. Classic was supposed to be a way to go back to a time before that. The boost ruins it, but not enough to destroy my passion for older versions of WoW. A token would be the final straw.
Thanks for listening. Mostly I just wanted the make sure the corporate overlords know they will lose players if they do it. I think they will likely see the short term profit of it as being worth the loss of subs since I’m not the kind of player who tends to buy microtransactions. From a mindless business perspective maybe they are right, but I wonder how many of them are/would be proud of themselves.
Surprising you didn’t quit from all the people buying gold to boost their characters in sm/mura/strat. Also surprising you didn’t quit because of people buying gold to buy items in gdkps.
Strange. Very strange. It’s almost like you don’t know what you’re talking about.
There is nothing in your post explaining why or how adding the WoW Token would be damaging to the game. What was the purpose of all that text if you’re not even going to explain your stance? o.O
All they need to do is start perma banning people who are caught buying gold. It isn’t hard. Instead there are anecdotes of them getting less than a slap on the wrist.
Literally one guy puts up one picture and everyone points to it like its solidified fact. This is how the southeastern pipeline issue could happen in the US but cause a shortage in New York because people panic bought gas.
I wouldn’t want to play the vanilla version of classic if they introduce the token into TBC or Wrath classic. I wouldn’t want to support Blizzard in the slightest at that point.
Do you remember how many innocent people were getting caught in ban waves before? Blizzard tried to automate the system and it didn’t work.
What metric do they track to determine somebody has bought gold? They can’t just ban everyone who has had a large amount of gold traded to them when GDKP runs are selling items for 40k.
Even if they do ban the right people, how does that solve the problem? As early as vanilla TBC people have been spending way too much on wow. 7k USD to buy a character back then (a top rogue with war glaives). What’s to stop them from resubbing, buying more gold, and playing again.
If you cast too wide a net you get the gold buyers at the expense of many innocent people, too narrow and the bans are ineffective. I’m not confident there is a way to tell exactly who is buying gold as this is a problem that plagues pretty much any MMO without some kind of a token system. Even MMOs with token systems sell currency, just typically less.
do you really think its hard to spot a character thats been sitting in BRD for 72 hours straight doing nothing but pickpocketing? blizzard could easily ban a large portion of bots if they wanted to hire even just a couple of people. but that costs them money, and blizzard doesnt have any interest in reinvesting into their games or their playerbase.
cost is a barrier to entry. if its going to cost you $200 every time you get banned just to restart, most people arent going to want to keep paying that price.
Blizzard should ban people who buy gold. They didn’t support the game enough. I don’t know how you think it would be made better by Blizzard also selling gold. Its like seeing a leaking ship and saying that putting another hole in would fix the issue just because the captain said so.
