If we could just get 1 PvP server

PvP by nature is hardcore compared to PvE lmao.

So what about all the folks in this thread asking for a pvp server? Is it fair to them to say “no you must play on my pve server with the option to opt in to a broken pvp system that doesn’t operate the way real pvp servers do?” Many of these players still play on pvp servers in classic, or had played pvp servers back in the day.

A massive amount to unpack here. Firstly, it’s not a PvE server, there are normal and RP servers, no PvE or PvP servers. Secondly, the ‘broken pvp system’ you routinely talk about isn’t a thing. All you’ve pointed to is sharding, which was on PvP servers as well and is not a fault of war mode. Thirdly, it does operate the way old PvP servers did, everyone in War Mode is PvP enabled and hostile to the opposing faction at all times.

It’s literally the exact opposite. The point that was made here multiple times is that War Mode allows you to opt in and out which is extremely convenient and does away with the downsides of needing two characters to be leveled and progressed in order to opt out of PvP, and allows you to opt into PvP and have the experience of a PvP server at any time. A PvP server would be precisely opposite of those benefits.

I’m not your enemy here. I have said numerous times now I’m all for you getting a PVP server. Me articulating concerns that have existed with PVP servers in the past doesn’t mean I don’t think there should be PVP servers now. You just hurt your argument more than you help to pretend like these concerns don’t exist.

War mode isn’t the same, you’ve made that perfectly clear. But war mode does have some advantages when dealing with groups of players that may have different priorities at different times. And we’ve never hard war mode without sharding; there’s honestly no way to project what war mode would look like if sharding wasn’t already on those servers. But the presence of sharding would greatly diminish what you’re looking for from PVP server.

Ah yes…I remember when I first started WoW, I didn’t know the difference between PvP and PvE servers. Want to take a guess on which server I made all my characters. Learned real fast that PvP servers weren’t for me. Ganking might be fun for those that do the ganking…but not the other way around.

I do understand that you’re not against the idea. It’s just difficult to explain the side of the players who want a pvp to those others, maybe not you, who are not pvp players and try to argue against it. I know there are problems with pvp servers, but I do think there are players like me who are ready to accept those problems with this type of server. As for the problem of breaking players apart, that is just something that might happen. I think war mode and pvp servers can co exists for players of different play styles. Keeping war mode and also implementing a pvp server could possibly have more benefits vs problems. I 100% believe it would lure some “classic only” players to retail. I am absolutely confident in that

That problem currently doesn’t exist due to the functionality of War Mode. It would happen with your proposal, so it is introducing problems, significant ones at that.

They aren’t different playstyles. War Mode functions as a PvP server, with the only exception being that you can opt out and opt back in whilst out of combat in rest zones and the faction+expansion capitals.

It could not. The only differences between the requested pvp served and playing with War Mode on at all times are the ability to camp low-levels and the inability to group up and do other activities due to not interacting properly with other servers.

There are tons of classic only people including me that would come back for pvp servers. As an added bonus on this server…remove flying!!!

Wpvp is fun, sure i get killed and have to try and do whatever to get back on track but hey its not so bad, at least I can have fun against the other faction.

Hell i rolled an ally hunter on Tich hoping for more pvp its been okayish

Basically a perma Warmode-on server, I’d like that.

I remember when people used to raid faction cities, and it’d be nice to have that happen again, imo sharding and cross-realm kinda ruined it. Too many players in different versions of the same area, etc.

I would only try retail again if they went through and removed every-single vehicle quest and promised to never force them upon the players again.

But I think it is kinda insane they don’t offer pvp servers to retail players. Probably because all the pvp players left wow like a decade ago after multiple expansions of bad pvp and anti-pvp measures.

This isn’t really true. Being locked to PVP always on means everyone else on that server isn’t going to be layered or blocked from grouping. You could isolate the server from standard servers to avoid the grouping issues.

Camping happens with war mode. People will cluster on someone until they get fed up and corpse hop to an inn to turn it off.

The difference is that with pvp always on there’s a higher population that will engage each other, until one side or the other tilts in %. People play differently and have different priorities. Honestly I don’t know why they don’t link classic servers that have pop tilts but that’s neither here nor there.

“Breaking player pop” is a strawman. They break it with any mode of play that isn’t interactive with another - the various classic modes and remix split the populations. It’s not a legitimate argument against a PVP server unless you’re going to campaign against any non-retail, non-normal server.

There are no legitimate arguments against pvp servers (as long as pve / warmode ones exist).

The fact that pvp servers are gone is because blizzard listened to the members of community with low skill and big tears in their eyes.

But I have to wonder, even if retail did become more pro-pvp, what incentive do pvp players have to play it?

The game is so bloated, the team has shown they are willing to burn pvp players, and there are plenty of alternatives like mobas or even wow classic.

Citation needed. I quite-clearly remember people camping the Vindicaar nodes and nobody cared enough to go do anything about it, it just happened because nobody actually wanted to do world pvp.

But it isn’t. Remix characters will be joining the normal server pool, and are in functionally a different game at present. Classic is entirely a separate game.

Best thing about a PvP server is that you were locked, you couldn’t escape unless you paid to transfer to a server you should’ve of been on to begin with. A PvE server but instead of convincing your friends to join you on that PvE server you followed them knowing what you were getting into and still cried about it.

So now essentially all realms are PvE with a toggle option, it’s not the same.

If you have war mode enabled, it is the same except for being able to toggle off. If you want that inability to leave, then you want fodder to gank and camp.

Eh, as I have said before. I’m all for PVP players getting a PVP server. I personally don’t think it would do well, but hey it doesn’t affect me. So I’m all for them getting it. More power to them.
