I can personally tell you I have had some of the best fights early PvP season in warmode these past few seasons. no dampening, constant play, CC and micro-disruption is still there but it’s just…war. you fight until you win or lose.
the current iteration of arena is garbanzo. constant CC, even though the timers are far less, and even more non-stop disruption which is just 19 years of give this class this.
all the reasons you listed are completely true. the absolute worst part for players getting into it are by the time you try to reach the prestige thresholds you’re facing mglad/m r1/m duelist so that’s another reason the prestige locked behind rating system is so terribly designed and frankly, likely not even designed, but just “do this and be done with it”.
This makes pvp-boosting the best leveling method by a mile. Percentile boosts are good because they offset the downsides. Currently, war mode has massive incentives. Unique gathers which are aligned to be primarily useful in PvP but are useful in both, unique world quests which are primarily pvp focused but useful for everyone, significant gold buffs that to be honest more than offset the added challenge of PvP, near-conquest tier pvp gear, reputation bonuses based on the weekly quest, pvp recipes from the weekly and the conquest boxes, and the ability to convert honor into boxes for more of those profession/crest/gold packs. The incentives are there, the participation isn’t (according to these threads, I usually see a pretty sizeable number of folks in war mode).
I only came back a few months into Season 1 (I believe about 2 months?), so I didn’t actually participate at this time, but there is usually still a bit of a squabble on my smaller servers.
Yeah, rated rewards systems are a miserable mess that could greatly benefit from a rework. That and greatly reducing CC so new players can actually play in the mode would be good, but… Meh, neither here nor there for the server discussion.
Based on what you’re writing, it seems like you don’t know what WPvP is. When you say that a PvP server is not needed without understanding what WPvP is in principle, you join the crowd of people like you, and as a result, Blizzard ignores the PvP-interested part of the community because of people like you. If you don’t see the point in a PvP server, just don’t play on it if it’s added. The fact that you oppose such a request from a certain number of players is insulting.
War mode doesn’t allow warring guilds to meet each other and assigns a separate layer for each one. And assuming that opponents learn about the attack thanks to patrolling and espionage, attempts to meet the enemy guild won’t follow because the attack won’t be noticed. Why, after my claim against you that you don’t know what WPvP is and harm the community with your statements, did you decide that I am wrong and you still have the right to insult the PvP community?
Maybe you’ll stop making absurd statements that, in their mass (there are quite a lot of people like you), create an image of the PvP server being unwanted? You literally don’t understand what you’re talking about. You genuinely don’t know what WPvP is. WPvP is not possible in war mode. Even raids from the same guild cannot end up on the same layer. Why don’t you just stop? Apparently, you don’t even understand how war mode technology works.
I stopped doing war mode when it was 95% Alliance bolting or being MIA, and 5% rolling in full raids camping areas.
You had the same thing in PvP servers ofc, but it was actual local pvpers doing it, not baddies congregating on one shard to ensure nobody could rally and fight back. Also the skill of the other pvpers was way better to where I died more than I won
PvP servers are unwanted. By Blizzard. There is a reason that they removed them, this is not a novel idea in the slightest, it is something that was already failing and needed to be reworked.
These are not objectively correct, and war mode by no means requires these things, your personal definition of world pvp does not change that.
War mode technology = Toggle it to go into war mode. The things you are complaining about have no relation, layering/phasing is not a war-mode exclusive feature by any stretch of the imagination.
The percentage of players preferring PvP and desiring an open PvP world exceeds the limit of players on one game world this is the starting point. It’s important to realize that there are many players who want to play exclusively PvP, as well as WPvP. If it’s not interesting to you, simply avoid topics related to PvP. You only harm the entire community when you and other PvE players claim that a PvP world is not needed without being PvP players yourselves.
That’s great, I’m glad you’re a reasonable person. Then you’ll understand and accept my request, which is to refrain from expressing anything in PvP-related topics while being a PvE player with no knowledge of WPvP.
Incorrect, pointing out that what currently exists satisfies what is desired (world pvp) and highlighting the issues that led to these servers being replaced with War Mode does not harm the community.
First, it is a discussion forum, if you are against someone disagreeing with you then you should not post here. Second, I’ve participated in World PvP through War Mode and on Sargeras during Legion, so I am more than qualified to talk on both systems. Third, one does not need to engage in PvP in order to know that phasing and layering are completely irrelevant to discussions about pvp servers, phasing exists in all avenues of the game outside of the capital cities of RP realms.
I think there absolutely should be a real pvp server, who cares if someone does not use it. Just perma flag everyone for pvp and disable war mode and grouping with anyone not on the server.
yea, I like this idea. the problem what do you do with mounts, currency, alts, and all that jazz? do you need to relevel professions? I would imagine it would be a literal fresh start realm which would be pretty sick.
