Toxic.
Yeah, agree or disagree on the subject of the thread idc, but this guy seems very lame
I’m still playing so not that unhappy. Don’t worry though if and when pvp servers come back you won’t have to play with me ill find others to play with.
bump to keep it alive
Thanks. We for sure have a following of pvp players here. Not sure how much more we can do at this point
If there is, and was, no downside - why did Blizzard replace PvP servers with warmode?
You mean like HC servers where you only have one life? I would do a Mak Gora on my pallly in retail once it gets back in the game again. I rarely ever lose 1v1 on that toon. I sometimes go at it 1v2 or 1v3. But… dont want to lose that toon. I do want more open world PvP. Too bad Blizzard has ruined that for everyone.
Well I personally think they are pretty timeless - the zones evoke great feelings and have a beautiful blend of colors. Also the animation is super smooth even on Era, so pvp is good.
Nonetheless - I think it is huge shame and agree that retail not having pvp servers is a spit in the face to pvp players.
I think the pve community just took over retail since most pvp players quit decades ago and now they don’t want any good pvp players returning, so they veto pvp servers with ridiculous arguments like imbalance, or not inclusive, or whatever they can muster to keep pvp players away.
I’d say the same thing about gankers
The main reason was to fix faction imbalanced complaints.
With winner takes all growth.
It’s still an issue, but world PvP was the main pain point of server imbalance.
That being said, I believe it was a bit of a coward play. Blizzard is too appeasing, letting players do what they want instead of enforcing restrictions like realm population control.
SoD being an experimental server, they are trying out these enforcement to see if they would work or not.
One is the restrictions is against GDKP, the other is the restrictions on faction populations on PvP servers.
I don’t know much about the GDKP testing, but the faction population control is working out smoothingly in my experience I run into plenty of action. It’s honestly pretty great.
Issue with PvP server is that it ultimately creates a balancing issue. Once one side dominates it just tends to stay that way forever.
There are ways to balance factions now. Read above
I have and I’m not convinced. I’m not a doomer on the idea though - I’m sure they can find a way to make it work.
I know why you want this idea.
I spent a year of my time playing just in Warmode with my friend Atreus and I think by far it was some of the best experiences I’ve had.
Korthia around the exit area is where all the PvP would happen in all of sanctum of domination and it was fun to know you were at risk, people would call did backup, you’d see marked players and get conquest goodie bags for killing them. It made the game feel ‘real’ in a way WM off doesn’t.
My main concern would be population, especially in old zones.
The main reason they joined the servers was to make it so you would actually run into players, but to do that you would lose the benefits of having a community of players, where you run into the same people and have the chance to get revenge days later.
What would be best is to have one or more Dedicated PvP servers, that Warmode players would “visit”. The PvP servers would prioritize the PvP server players in the shard, so you have a chance to play with the same players, while filling in the shard with Warmode players to keep things feeling active and balanced.
My other concern are these world events. I believe Blizzard is going to keep making them, if they do, am I the only one that wants them to become sanctuaries during the event?
Interesting take. That would be a neat idea. PvP server that you can only join if you are flagged PvP, and war mode players can phase in. I wouldnt mind that
as so many others have said PvP servers were fun back in the day and even in classic it was fun for a bit but i picked bad server and suddenly in TBC the server i was on was 90%+ alliance and it made it difficult to do anything to the point i either spent a bunch of money to transfer to a different server or quit
the balance they do in SoD is cool but i truly fail to see the difference between WM and PvP servers players that want to engage in PvP will be flagged and the people that dont wont be
The big difference is in WM on say MoonGuard is if I’m lucky I might see one ally or horde flagged. While if MoogGuard were a pvp server I could have open world pvp at any time because everyone that would join would be flagged.
Personally, if they do bring them back, they should only start with 1 and if it looks like it might work add another making sure they are cross realm only with themselves. and so, one and so forth until blizz reaches what they consider critical mass where any more pvp servers would not work.
EDIT
They should also have like two or three pop ups telling you its pvp and you will be flagged at all times.
I think the differences between war mode and a PvP server comes down to incentive. War mode offers xp and increased rewards for things, so I end up seeing people toggle it on just for that. I mean, I’ve done it many times.
With a PvP server, you’re always at risk. There’s no toggle. If people are fighting over at azure span, then you’ll see them no matter what (assuming no phasing). Your local chat might be calling out that there’s a group running around tanking people, so you might form a group to take them on. This happens all the time in classic. Interactions with players - that’s what matters on these servers.
Now, will I play on one of these servers? Nah, I probably wouldn’t main it, but I can certainly see why people want this.
Yeah that’s a reason too. And for me, I don’t really get in to all the incentives as much. I just like world pvp and would like to see it at more potential. I would join a zone war even with no reward, just to see which faction is better that day. I like large world pvp battles better than organized BG or shuffle or arena. And sadly it rarely happens in war mode. Almost never
Realms used to be classed as PVE, PvP and RP.
I seem to remember that PvP realms were not that populated.
