If it would be a good idea, Blizzard wouldn’t have taken it away in the first place or at least given you a server or two back. It’s not happened because it’s an unpopular and bad decision.
It hasn’t happened because we want it to happen but people who don’t even have interest in joining complain about us even wanting to have it. Which doesn’t make any sense to start with.
What can you do on a PVP realm that you cannot do on a realm currently with WM on?
I’ll wait.
It’s not that people don’t want you to have it, nobody here can affect that except blizzard, who ironically have chosen to not have them anymore. People are trying to tell you why this “need” for a pvp realm is unnecessary, while you have yet to post anything other than “I want one” and gesture at some vague Wpvp population that doesn’t exist in a large enough population anymore, or who are existing just fine with WM.
It hasn’t happened because PvP players tried their very best to make PvP servers a cage and trap people. Players rightfully complained about the sheer levels of toxicity in said servers, and so Blizzard came down with another solution that allowed PvP without trapping characters in negative environments.
The only reason it became a bad idea is because a loud minority of people from pvp servers would throw a tantrum when pvp happened, which I never understood. You (not you in particular) join a pvp server your level 70 just got to the new xpac and a 75 kills you.
You have two options accept pvp happened and get over it or come to the forums and have people tell you to get over it you’re on a pvp server.
I will admit that ganking lowbies happens, it happened to me a lot I joined ED early mop and had to level up I got ganked by horde deleted my 40 warrior made this toon got ganked by alliance…gave up accepted that pvp happens had fun win lose or draw.
It’s not about what you can do, it’s about what you can’t do. Which is turn PvP off without paying for a transfer.
Try war mode for a week and you’ll see what I mean. Too many reasons to try and type a long message here. But others have also explained above. There are differences.
just noticed that your name and guild combo is great!
So you have no answer. Not even one from this monolithic list you claim? I did several years of active play on PVP realms, currently the only difference is the ability to toggle.
No they haven’t, or you’d be able to fast quote to defend your poistions. You’ve gotten very good at nebulous hand waving without giving anything out other than deflections and complaining “people dont want pvper to have nice things”.
I think there’s been some effort to disregard or otherwise minimize that very meaningful difference between PvP servers and WM in this thread. Being flagged for PvP in every contested zone no matter what changed how we all approached the game, from what gear you wore to what PvE/outdoor activities you chose to engage in, and when, and how.
I’m not trying to argue one side of this debate or the other, but only argue that conflating WM and PvP servers as they were is disingenuous or downright wrong.
With only one server (as has been asked) Player and guild reputation make a difference. You’re in an if its red its dead guild you probably won’t get any mercy, while the opposite could be true if you or your guild “fight fair”.
Depending on the make-up of said server gankers can be driven off by ironically mind you ganking and camping them till they have no fun.
Friendships can be built on this one server that are cross faction leading to more than just wpvp, where both guilds try and que at the same time in a bg to see who is better at objective play. Friendly guild rivalries can also spawn.
There are over 700 comments in this thread, I don’t have time to go through and re quote everyone, every time someone new comes in with the same argument “war mode is the same” I know for sure there are reasons given above by other members. If you care to read them, go for it. But saying war mode and pvp server is the same is just your opinion, not a fact.
How do you know that everyone who isn’t agreeing with you is solely playing WoW as PvE? Do you have data to support that?
Actually, they aren’t. As you must be aware, when you turn on warmode, you are separated from players who do not have warmode activated, you are placed into an entirely separate shard which is devoted to PvP activity. It is effectively turning a part of a server into a PvP server. And if enough people dedicated themselves to always being in warmode, then they will never even see PvE players. They may as well not exist.
It’s all about player choice and decision making. You can make that slice of the server a permanent PvP area if you wish to. Does it really matter if people come and go into/out of warmode? Is it any different to people logging on and off?
It would have to be the only server not connected to others in the current games framework for this to work. This is also something people said about classic servers and realm reputation, that has not resurfaced in the same way as people claimed existed in the past. Both for PVE and PVP. Those realms dominant faction chased the other off entirely leading to numerous PVP in name on realms. SoD has managed to somewhat avoid this with heavy handed balancing put in place.
Anecdotal but I never saw greifing a player snowball into a reversal or defense of said player beyond MAYBE once. The call for help goes unanswered a vast majority of the time. I wish it worked like you say more often but it just does not. Very rarely will someone get up from wherever they are to fly to a lowbie zone and defend a camped lowbie.
As far as I know this can be done within the current framework of the game as is, just promote with a like minded guild and go to town!
I have said prior that I am not fighting against this idea, just that with how the game and players are currently and historically, WH is the better option to avoid issues that were ever present on PVP realms.
Good thing I asked you directly for your answer on my question then, not the entire thread. You deflected to others and non-answers.
The toggle is the main difference, if you want to argue attitudes and player preferences the answer is shown in the removal of PVP realms as a whole in modern WoW and the faction stacking of classic WoW.
So I ask again. What can you do on a PVP realm that you cannot do on a realm currently with WM on?
I will concede to them that sharding tech in this game is an absolute horrorshow, but that’s not War Mode’s fault; the same thing happens in PvE and world activity on the regular. Blizzard just needs to devote more resources into stabilizing and making more consistent shard groups (or bite the bullet and start merging servers to lessen the need for sharding), and then re-tool War Mode’s reward structure (bonus honor instead of XP, for one) to have it make sense for PvP players instead of PvE players and the vast majority of the bellyaching should go away.
I cant speak for other pvp realms on this but on ED it was answered pretty regularly, from both sides.
comically the biggest grip on ED wasn’t that wpvp happened it was about the size small skirmishes were always welcome where 2 or 3 raids were a problem.
Personally, I think they should have pushed all the pvp servers into their own shard thing and the rpvpv servers into theirs. and leave WM for everyone else to enjoy at their leisure.
I can see this for end game or max level Wpvp but for leveling it just never happened, I totally get why, but the “get allies to help” responses just don’t hold much to me until max level zones or sporadic and rare city attacks. I didn’t play on ED so I cannot comment on that community too much.
Honestly the push for a PVP realm in this thread seems more like a push for nostalgia and the good times we all used to have in general, adding back a PVP realm at this point I think would end up being more of a disappointment or let down than something lasting.
Got an answer to that reasonable question yet?
Currently it feels like pulling teeth, so no.
That’s just awesome.
Ganking it’s the answer of course they won’t come out and say it since it makes them look bad. Literally the only thing WM has different from PVP servers is the ability to avoid ganking and only engage in pvp if they chose to.
