What you’re arguing for you already have. War Mode provides everything except an imposed lockdown, and can even handle population imbalances better than a dedicated server because you’d still get to play, you just wouldn’t be able to flag through War Mode.
When there are literally millions of bad experiences, they all add up and rightfully condemn PvP servers. You’re right, one gank isn’t bad. A hundred, a thousand, all interrupting other players’ gameplay for the ‘crime’ of wanting to play alongside their friends. That is a legitimate problem that needed addressing.
Sod off with this garbage, all you want is a player lockdown and I’ve proven this in the thread. I proposed a server that gave you everything that a PvP server is except for transfers and even then I conceded that to transfer to that server, the character needed to be created on that server. Still not good enough, because what you want is captivity, not competition.
The choice has been made. By players. And then acted upon by Blizzard.
I’m just saying there’s an obvious market for players who prefer that kind of stuff.
Games like New World, a large focus of the game is world PvP, and yeah people do complain, but even more people like it and keep coming back.
Is New World dead, like PvP servers are in WoW? No, it isn’t dead, Steam charts are still saying it has several tens-of-thousand players, even now.
It’s about as popular as Elder Scrolls Online, and New World is almost entirely a PvP MMO.
Although I’ve stopped playing New World myself, for different reasons lol, the PvP was actually a good part of it. Left because of everything else, little substance in the game at the time when I played it, and the PvE was very lackluster.
The fact they are adding ranked solo queue and a new BG in TWW is proof they want some of their PvP community to return to WoW, otherwise they wouldn’t bother at all.
Some of these responses from people against a pvp server are kinda sad. They really don’t know what they are saying. Just trying to create a barrier to a way some players want to enjoy the game. They shouldn’t even be commenting.
I have some friends who like country music, I don’t. If they offered me a free ticket to a concert I’d tell them to take someone else who’d enjoy it. I definitely don’t think all country music concerts should be cancelled though. We can still do the other stuff that we all enjoy together.
Your obsession with this is bizarre. I used a very real-world scenario of ‘my friends want to roll on the PvP server because they like PvP, but I don’t like PvP and prefer PvE. If I roll on the PvP server, I can still try to PvE, but I’ll get repeatedly attacked in PvP, but if they join the PvE server, they won’t be able to PvP as freely as they want.’ This thought process leads many to join a PvP server not because they want to PvP, but because they want to play with friends.
You… You have friends, right? Y’know, people that you want to hang out with and will inconvenience yourself to do so at times? The ‘gank tax’ is so called because it was seen as the tax you had to pay to play with friends that preferred the server. People were (rightfully) frustrated with the gank tax and cried out about it, and Blizzard implemented War Mode as the solution. A solution that’s hampered by bad sharding tech, but absent that it works exactly as a PvP server would.
We’ve already been over why Warmode =/= RPPvP realms - please refer to all the player perspectives I quoted above. You’re not engaging in earnest and trying to hear these perspectives. I understand you’ve had bad experiences - and I’m sorry for that - but Warmode and RPPvP player choice can both exist, they’re not mutually exclusive.
Thank you for proving my point about misrepresentation. I said the exact opposite of that above:
The opposite, choice was taken away. Emerald Dream was a thriving realm prior to these changes, and it still thrives on Grobbulus on Classic. There’s a place for RPPvP in Warcraft.
You’ll forgive me, but I’ve really tried to engage in earnest here and you’ve done nothing but repeat yourself and misrepresent other players perspectives (including mine). I hope you can find it to empathize with different perspectives of fellow players, there’s room for a diversity of perspectives and playstyles in Warcraft.
Forgive my vitriol, I made the same mistake and did not see the ‘on and off’ portion of your proposal. In which case, I would have no issue with a server like that existing.
What I am most opposed to is the captivity of a player character on the server for the sake of ‘forcing’ PvP.
One good representation does not undo the massive wave of negativity PvP servers generated. Yes, ED was a shining beacon amidst the trash, but that’s exactly why it didn’t win over the populace. It was the outlier to the general state of PvP servers.
If ED could fix the other servers and make them not complete trash, maybe some goodwill might have fostered, but we both know the toxicity ran far too deep for any kind of help. And since players would rightfully call foul at only some servers of a type getting the axe and not all servers of the problem type, the choice was simple for Blizzard, and they chose War Mode.
Thanks for that, all good. It’s been a busy thread lol, things can be missed.
Ok tell you what - I’m happy to agree with you here. But why not let Blizzard run the experiment? If it turns into a toxic trashpile - shut it down and convert it to a normal realm. I’ll stand with you on that. You can even have this stipulation before people roll on the realm - that it’s a limited experiment. That’s what could happen at worst.
At best, it will give players a new (and old) unique way to engage with the game they love. I think it’s worth a shot, even if changes need to be made like we discussed to protect players from feeling “trapped” on these realms - like server transfers.
Personally I think everyone who is for running a pvp server should submit a kind suggestion, in the in game menu, under the suggestions tab, asking them to establish a pvp server, and give a reason why it would be beneficial and why they would enjoy it. Maybe we can get their attention. @everyone who wants a pvp server
Remove Chromie Time and the squish forcing people to travel established pathways.
No flying of any kind to avoid dive bombing. Insert Legion grappling hooks from Highmountain and StormHeim
Deadly immeasurably powerful godlike guards at ALL posts, towns, vendors, quest givers the likes of which even two BiS raids wouldn’t even dare approach. And/or make essential quest givers neutral unkillable
Remove the ridiculous 2 minute cooldown; allow for me to select a radius of spirit healers away from kill zones to avoid camping and including at least one of these sanctuary godlike guard areas.
Bring in BFA season 1 style world quests, assaults, and essentially PvP oriented quests whereby even killing other players either in a FFA or team DM setting award respective quest items (essentially looting the other players gains) in a lore sense not actual.
