I’d be hard against the idea of it was "delete WM and go fully back (even though I personally have no issue with that,) because it’d be taking away something a ton of people like. This being a little something extra for the more hardcore (sound familiar?) Is a good idea though, imo.
You think you want forced population controls on your server based on player count, but trust me, you absolutely do not. Again, and let me stress this, it is a horrible idea to allow player actions instead of server power to dictate server availability.
An entire server locked off from cross-realm or cross-faction activity, which requires a separate character to access. In a vacuum, you’re right, no one has to enter it. But if a friend is on it, and they don’t want to maintain an alt on a PvE server, then if someone wants to play with their friend, they have to create a character on that server.
WM already satisfies everything a PvPer wants aside from holding a captive audience.
Dangerous World?
Spontaneous PvP?
Sharding tech needs a rework, yes, but that’s not relevant to War Mode, that’s sharding in general. War Mode is literally a PvP-On/Off button.
… That I want to hang out with my friends? Gods forbid. I should just be made to play separately from them forevermore, like PvPers intended.
Again, I don’t have a major horse in this particular race. So if it makes people happy I say fine. It just bothers me when I see people making PVE players out like we want to take things away from PVP players.
As someone who loved PvP servers and was saddened to see them go away, adding another server in a game with an already fragmented population isn’t going to do much for people who love world PvP.
Posts like that still exist to this day, even though PvP can be turned off…
I mean, yeah, I have no sympathy for someone who toggles on War Mode, gets ganked, and complains about PvP happening. You signed up for it when you clicked on War Mode. My umbrage comes from the massive division that a PvP server forces upon the playerbase. Now instead of clicking a button with ease, you need to create and maintain two separate characters depending on the mood that strikes you.
It’s ok for people to make choices. You don’t have to do everything your friends do all the time. If all my friends went to classic tomorrow I still wouldn’t go, but I don’t think they should have the option removed.
I mean… people right in this thread are all about that. Not like I’m writing fiction here. Dude would refuse his own “friends” the opportunity to do something they might be excited about.
There is next to no division when pretty much everything is cross realm and will be with next expansion.
You trying to amp up since the start that doing world quests or leveling together matter more than the possibility that your friends might enjoy doing wpvp over gathering herbs with you.
This person acts like they have a thousand friends who are just gunna jump ship and peace out to a pvp server leaving them alone? This sounds so unlikely. And even if so, they should be able to play the game they pay to play, the way they want to. Are you just making up scenarios that probably wouldn’t even happen?
Yeah but that’s just people who want to troll or hate. Most of the PVE population wouldn’t care. Cause it doesn’t affect them. They’d just shrug and go back to whatever they happen to be grinding out that given week.
What feature is so sacred here that War Mode doesn’t cover? Again, if you want the ‘thrill’ of constant danger, leave War Mode on. If you want to treat every PC you meet as a potential threat, leave War Mode on. If you want PvP to just ‘happen’ in the world, leave War Mode on.
War Mode does everything you want except trap characters in PvP forever, and it doesn’t require an entire alt to keep up. There is literally no difference between leaving War Mode on and being on a PvP server except for the personal upkeep of two characters instead of one.
PvP servers were tried. They died. We don’t need to revisit that failed experiment because we know how this ends.
Hot tips for all the detractors for WPvP realms on the thread:
Stop misrepresenting those arguing for WPvP realms. They aren’t trolls, they are passionate WoW players who miss a unique and wonderful experience they had on those realms.
A bad experience you had isn’t reason to keep this choice from other players. You can stay on your safe realms all the live long day.
You aren’t forced into rolling on this realm, and keeping this choice from other players because of your lack of will is a truly awful and malicious perspective. Take some responsibility.
Player choice is great, and I hope that Blizzard listens to RPPvP players and gives them the option to play in the type of environment that made them fall in love with Warcraft in the first place.
Trying to figure out a way to tell blizzard we need this. Old school players, pvp players, players who want a challenge and not just farm mounts all day long.
Players that do/did wpvp : yea this is reasonable, 1 server ain’t much but it’s a good start
Haters that don’t like pvp : we can’t have this happen, what if people have fun?
My concern stems from my experiences in EVE Online, a game with far more PvP that WoW will ever have, and the depraved gambits and tricks that corps would do in order to ensure ‘the enemy’ doesn’t get to play. We’re talking literal alarm-clock ops to maintain a 24/7 camp. We’re talking intentional server crashes to get back at other guilds. We’re talking anything and everything to take advantage of any limitation they can impose on their opponent’s ability to play.
Effectively letting players control the server population of the server would be a nightmare.
