If there are no bans or end to layer exploit, I’m out

UPDATE
It’s good to know that the screenshot was faked and that the number of layers is a single digit. I appreciate Blizz taking the time to assuage fears and protect the integrity of the game since perception is so intertwined with the experience.

With that said, it’s astonishing how people can read that Blue post and think 1) that it’s not an exploit, 2) that Blizz condones it, 3) that it has zero impact on the economy, and 4) that people aren’t still gaining an advantage. They literally refer to it as exploitation, agree that it should be fixed, agree that layering is having an impact on the economy and that they are monitoring it, but that this impact is not at all as bad as the previous stories were indicating. I would still like to see exploiters punishes, not just in this instance but anytime people exploit the game to gain an advantage over other players because that is indeed a TOS violation and harms the game as a whole.

Sorry, but not sorry. I love this game and I want to protect it from potential threats. Exploits threaten the game and without the full information at hand, the best defense is an overwhelming defense. If it looks like I was going overboard, that’s your opinion and you are welcome to it. But I felt that something as potentially harmful as this kind of abuse to the degree people were talking about needed to be addressed, considering we didn’t know how many layers their were and could not categorically disregard claims as impossible. You have to know what is possible in order to rule out the impossible.

I’ll leave the rest up as is.

Title. Honestly, if people are going to wreck the economy or become littler emperors by exploiting something that really should never have been in the game from the start, I’m done. Layering was a really hard pill to swallow for me, but it really was the lesser of two evils. But that was als under the assumption that Blizzard would not let it be exploited.

Well, it was already exploited. The XP exploit isn’t great, but it doesn’t impact a whole lot because we’ll all get to 60. But if it’s being used to farm our high level mats and people are becoming outrageously wealthy by exploit? Nope. It no longer feels like my meager scraping by actually means anything. I really wanted this to work out, but I’m not going to play a game where Blizz looks the other way on blatant exploits simply because streamers might be involved. If they cower to streamers, I don’t want to give them my money. This is a hard line for me.

  1. Fix it so that layer hopping can’t be done.
  2. Suspend the players involved.
  3. Roll back their ill gotten gains.

This is the right move. Without this, I’m unsubbing. I really do appreciate the efforts of the Classic team, but this is something that needs swift action. I don’t matter on my own, but I hope people make a similar stance.

Does that mean I can keep my auction addon?

I really think they need to do something. This issue is reminding me of the Caturday incident in Neverwinter.

It’s going to destroy the economy, maybe even permanently. It really needs to be rolled back. All items gained through layer swapping should be removed. Using it to level is something I detest as well, but at least that’s only for one person. But sitting in one spot layer hopping over and over and over for hours to farm thousands of gold worth of lotus/chests/crystals should be bannable imo.

I decide nothing but where my sub money goes.

I don’t see how anyone could possibly be against this.

People want handouts like in Retail. The less work they have to do, the happier they think they will be. But in actuality, it will just mean the sooner they get bored with Classic. They’re ruining the game for literally everyone by allowing this exploit to continue.

Was that the negative value deal?

I remember waking up to half the server being banned. I laughed.

Yeah, you could bid a negative amount on auctions.

Layering has been an absolute failure. More realms would’ve been better. They should’ve just labeled certain realms as “potential temporary” realms so players on those realms knew they might get merged into another high pop realm if their realm dies due to underpopulation.

The rampant other exploits in the game is what led up to so many people being banned for it.

At that point it was exploit or fall way behind.

Similar situation happening currently in classic.

i thought layering was only in the starting zones? is that incorrect?

Layers are worldwide.

Hang in there friend. Blizzard will come up with a solution eventually. Plus I speculate some of the employees might be hoppers, lol. Who knows though. I have seen Blizzard apply hotfixes within 24hours before, so the delay in this layering might be part of a master plan.

Does anybody have any screenshots of these stockpiled resources everyone is getting so upset over? It’d be great to know just how bad the problem really is.

I have a feeling Blizzard is going to address soon regardless.

Jokerd got his world first 60 by constantly layer hopping in Western Plaguelands.

I’ve not seen any screenshots, but go check out some of the vods of the people who have had world firsts. They aren’t shy about abusing layering, they are doing it on stream.

Oh sure, I get the leveling exploit, but that’s not nearly as bad long term as harvesting high value resources repeatedly until you stockpile ridiculous amounts of them. I’m just curious to know how bad that part has been so far.

bye mail all your things to ilikefreestufffromquitters thanks!

One instance of the game world per layer. Since Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms are technically separate worlds, layers are effectively continent-wide.
