Go to the crossroads. I found a way to get the plague from Ogrimmar to there, and then once turned, I start by attacking and killing the NPCs there, because as a ghoul, there is strength in numbers. Once I turned more than a few npcs, I start attacking other players, and they turn…
Crossroads was actually overran with zombies earlier, it was pretty awesome and hilarious !

(Note: I agree completely with the sentiment of it should be impossible to force flag players who have selected non-war mode.)
It actually isn’t changing you to war mode… I’ll clarify. It IS possible to be flagged in non-war mode. For example, if you are in non-war mode and you run into the opposing faction’s main city, you WILL still be flagged, but will also still be marked “non-war mode”. You can also turn on your flag yourself intentionally and be flagged, but not be in war mode. (You will clearly see the war mode button disabled if you look.)
The reason you are seeing people in war mode when you are not in war mode is because you are in the main capital city. When you are in SW, you can see all of your faction who are there regardless of war mode setting. I know this because on horde side, it’s super common to port to Org to trade things if you’re in the Seal room in Dazar’alor when the people involved are in different war mode settings – because you can see each other in Org, being a main capital city. It’s similar to how alliance use the Siege of Boralus instance for the same purpose.
In any case, you’ll notice that the flag goes into the normal 5min countdown when you leave SW, which (other than the war mode button not being activated) is how you know you’re just flagged and not in war mode.

Player who hasn’t even cleared raids on normal mode complains that they can’t continue to do nothing as they’ve always done in this game

So the flag upset you or did you somehow not manage to do your missions?
ACtually I have, twice. It happened during a Nathanos kill, there were infectious zombies that popped up in the area, And they attacked people and if they got caught in your AoE it auto-flags you. Since they are FFA anyone on the opposite faction can attack the zombies, auto-flag, and start ganking. Which is super-easy during a NAthanos fight.
