If the Alliance can't get High Elves, Then Give the Option to the Horde

What’s amusing to me is that many pros try to downplay the significance of visual themes like skin, and hair color (Despite them making up most of character’s model.) and yet undermine their own argument by stressing the significance of something as small as an eye color. And it’s much easier to simply give that to the blood elves than to create an identical playable race around it, especially if Ion already sees it as a blood elf theme.

they ignore the very reason they created void elves rather than give the alliance a blood elf clone. ‘something like a blood elf with its own unique flavor’ i believe was the rationale provided

blue eyes are not a signifier or anything other than the magics a thalassian elf is exposed to. it is not a marker of being alliance. it reflects the ambient magic an elf is exposed to. blood elves began with green eyes because of the presence of fel energy crystals in quel’thalas. some priests/paladins are now manifesting golden eyes because the sunwell is part holy. yet the sunwell is also part arcane. its time to give mages their blue eyes and everybody knows it

It baffles me how anyone can even hope for such a thing. There is no chance of that happening and everyone knows it.

Exactly, gold eyes were a wonderful way to reflect light-wielding classes’ relation to the light, blue eyes would be a wonderful way to reflect mages relation to the arcane.

While I love the golden eyes, I feel blue would be far more thematic, and nice. I would certainly want them to glow as well, to reflect their magical nature and not be the dull blue we see the females have among the high elves.

I would love blue eyes with my character, just gotta be patient.

Yeah, the fact that the High Elves in the Allerian stronghold kept their blue eyes despite being innundated with massive amounts of ambient Fel in the Outlands, because they didn’t feed on it. They were feeding on arcane things.

Why is this a reply to me, lol. Has nothing to do with my post.

So, you don’t have a source on it. Got it.

But you know, keep trying to say that others don’t know what they’re talking about.

So, can we say that to the pro-helfers too, considering the High Elves (before they renamed themselves to Blood Elves) joined the Alliance of Lordaeron during the Troll Wars to help push back the Amani Trolls from there homeland, while during the second war, they only assisted the Alliance of Stormwind with a few rangers to help push back the Horde invasion?

make a golden eyed blood elf, say it’s a high elf. problem solved.

So, you don’t accept actual in-game sources as canon. Okay, got it.

I think giving High Elves or just Quel’dorei options to the Horde for Blood Elves would be waste and kind of ridiculous and lore breaking.

I mean the whole point of the Blood Elves is that they are suppose to be moving on from their heritage while at the same time being a completely different kind of elven people unlike those within the Alliance and Dalaran they sticks with Humans, Dwarves, and etc as their allies unlike the Horde. Not only would giving Celtic War Paint Tattoos and Blue Eyes would ruin the Blood Elf Race but also the Alliance Identity and whole point of the Sin’dorei in the First place. It’ll just be Horde Quel’dorei but the Quel’dorei in the Horde are bigotry and hateful to the Alliance and Humans while completely ignoring part of the lore that made them into Blood Elves in the First Place.

I much would rather see the Quel’dorei/High Elves in General to be fully playable ether as a Actual Race or you better do more customization besides blue tattoos and skin options because Tattoos and Skin Options wouldn’t be enough for the Void Elves. I’m talking about Braided Hairstyles, Wild Hairstyles, More Beard Options, Brown, Orange, Black, and Blonde Hair Colors, Skin Options that are Brown/Black with White and Pink Skin Options and as more Colorful Tattoos like Red, Blue, White, Green, and Yellow. Also Blizzard needs to completely fix the Void Elf Heritage Armor to be more like the High Elf Archmage/Blood Mage Outfit or the Ranger High Elves from Warcraft 2.

I don’t accept your half-baked personal interpretations as canon.

Allerian hold elves were in Outland for years - fact.

The devs have said that “ambient energy” can change elf eye color - fact.

Outlands is loaded with ambient fel energy, it’s the reason Kael’thas went there, to find another form of energy to sate elves’ need for magic to sustain them - fact.

Allerian Stronghold elves fed on arcane sources - fact.

Allerian Stronghold elves kept their blue eyes despite the ambient fel - fact.

The divide in magic siphoning between the “high elves” and blood elves was the fact that Kael’thas was using fel and the ones in Quel’thalas were siphoning magic from living creatures like mana worms, not just magical artifacts like the “high elves” used - fact.

Kael’thas’ people who fed on fel became mutated and either red or purple-skinned with glowing green eyes - fact.

Therefore: thalassians keep their blue eyes if they are actively feeding on or using the arcane, despite ambient fel energy - fact.

This isn’t my interpretation, it’s all literally shown in game.

Okay.

LOL.

They used “magical” sources. The quest text never actually states what kind of magical sources, except that they were Draenei in origin.

And the Mag’har Orcs kept their original skin color and didn’t turn green. Were they feeding on Arcane magic? You are making extreme leaps in logic.

It has been retconned that the Elves in Quel’thalas were siphoning Arcane magic, not Fel magic. Therefore, according to your FLAWED logic, they wouldn’t have green eyes either.

Yes it is. It is your own personal interpretation. You made some giant leaps in logic, leaps that are not sound, that brought you to your conclusion.

Okay there’s a lot to unfold here, so let me just start with this part.

Blood Elves are not moving on from their heritage, in fact they’re the main group carrying it on. Unlike modern Alliance High elves, Blood Elves still practice their traditions, speak the high elven language, wear high elven-themed clothes, build high elven themed structures and weapons, the list goes on and on. Meanwhile modern Alliance High elves have all assimilated into Alliance cultures. This is not only repeatably said within The World of Warcraft Encyclopedia, but said by Ion himself during an interview.

Things like Celtic war paints, and blue eyes are inherently Blood elven, even during the Sunwell plateau trailer we see Kael’thas standing before Blood elves with blue eyes. During the Blood Elf heritage quest our Blood elves are quite literally turned into High elves, and we see Kael’thas and his blue eyed blood elves fighting their way to the Sunwell. One of the most iconic Blood elf images is of a Blood elf with runic tattoos around his eye, and Rommath has tattoos all along his arm.

How many Alliance high elves can we say have tattoos? Oh right, Alleria. Who quite literally just jumped out of a time machine from before the elves originally splintered, and if you see her standing next to Lor’themar you can easily see the similarities in their armor. Ornate armor adorned with blue gems, and lined with elegant golden crests. While every Alliance High elf is wearing ordinary human clothes, while speaking common.

How is it lore-breaking? We have a High elf leader stationed permanently in Quel’thalas preaching unification between the two groups, along with many High elf pilgrims residing peacefully among Blood elves. Many Quel’dorei are simply neutral as well, and with their kingdom now restored as a thriving city I can’t fathom why it’s hard to believe that many might be interested in returning home to their friends, family, and loved ones. That many High elves, Vereesa included still see Quel’thalas as their home.

That high elves like the ones at Alleria Stronghold were not even present during original splintering, and were never given the chance to make a educated decision as to which side they wanted to join, and instead were fed lies about how all the blood elves had thrown in their lot with Kael’thas. Although they inevitably must have heard of the Shattered Sun offensive comprised of Blood elves and Draenei who defeated Kael’thas and the demons of the burning legion. It’s easy to believe they would be eager to see first hand what became of their homeland and it’s people.

Which would be Blood elves with blue eyes, and would completely ignore the narrative of the actual Alliance High elves. At least the ones we actually see assisting the alliance in their war effort (as small as that may be) and not residing in secluded outposts along Azeroth.

You want to play a race that already exists within the game, you want to take it’s culture, and all the other themes inherently associated with it away from players who’ve been playing that race for over a decade now.

We can’t have blue eyes? Why? Even though it’s essentially a symbol of a Thalassian elf’s relation to arcane magic? Which is, you know, the most defining theme to the Blood elf narrative. You don’t see the audacity in trying to keep that from players simply because you want to play their race too. I’m sorry, but that’s now how things work, and thankfully Blizzard seems to see it that way too.

That’s both idiotic and irrelevant. Fel turns orcs green when they drink demon blood, and red when they immerse themselves in it. The Mag’har aren’t elves. They don’t naturally change to fit whatever magic is around the way all the elf races do. They’re naturally brown. Plus the Outlands Mag’har segregated themselves away from the worst of the fel areas, so they weren’t drinking/immersing themselves in fel sources.

As far as I am aware, the elves were pushing into the trolls territory when they decided to set up shop. Also, the elves werent doing too well against the trolls so they asked the humans for help and that is how their debt was created.

Uh, it was called the Alliance of Lordaeron for the second war I think? The guy who called on the elves was from SW though, and he was the last descendant of the dude who helped the elves in the troll wars, which was the tribe from Arathi.

So from what I understand, the people of arathi helped the elves, the arathi splintered and some went to what is now lordaeron, while the heirs of arathi or whatever went and founded SW. First war happens, then SW goes to lordaeron to warn them about the horde and the alliance of lordaeron is created (which includes all of the human kingdoms as well as the elves, gnomes, and dwarves).

Any of that untrue?

video of chris metzen talking about blood elves, nearly instantly seguing at the beginning to talking about them as the high elves

jeff kaplan even says at the 1 minute mark ‘its also interesting to note lady sylvanas windrunner was once a ‘high’ elf and therefore a blood elf and shes on the forsaken now that she regained her will after breaking free of arthas, she led the forsaken crusade and now you have the blood elves naturally allied with the horde through lady sylvanas windrunner’

indicating a progression in the high elf story that the blood elves are the torch bearers for the high elf race. they say all this knowing there is a neutral pop in dalaran and a few individuals actually pledged to the alliance

in other words blood elves are the high elves of quel’thalas proper. if you want to play a traditional high elf the horde is waiting

thats nice. while the SC has different goals to the majority of their race, they are still a part of that race. and that race is playable. blues eyes for blood elves will likely be implemented with eye color customization, because they do make sense as the majority of the population is back to using arcane magic in their everyday lives. and mages in particular who would have a very strong devotion to the arcane

I was pretty sure it was the Alliance of Stormwind who they helped push back the Horde invasion. Because around that time, the Horde did capture Stormwind.

Yes, that was the first war if I am not mistaken. Then in the second war, since SW got their butts kicked in the first war, they fled to lordaeron and that is when the alliance of lordaeron was formed, uniting the humans like gilneas, KT, SW, as well as gnomer, IF, and quelthalas (but the prince wasnt super motivated until maybe later I think). I have been piecing what I can together from wowpedia to better understand, so unless that source is just flat out wrong that is my current understanding of events.

Heres some snippets from what I have gathered on wowpedia.

Troll Wars
“The Troll Wars were a series of conflicts between the forest trolls of the Amani Empire and an alliance of the humans of Arathor and high elves of Quel’Thalas, ending approximately 2,800 years before the coming of the orcs to Azeroth.[6]”

"Chieftain Thoradin of the Arathi saw the threat to his race and decided to unite the humans. Along with his trusted friend and greatest general Ignaeus, later to be known as Trollbane, he devised a cunning strategy: fight the nearby human tribes, and after each victory offer them peace and equality. With this tactic, he united the tribes and founded the first of the human kingdoms, Arathor. Situated in what is now known as the Hillsbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands, his growing empire ruled from the capital city of Strom. Up to this time, the human empire had rarely had contact with the reclusive, magic-wielding elves, and all contact with the trolls was through border skirmishes.

After years of continual besiegement by the trolls, the high elves, with defeat nearing, finally decided to seek the aid of the now-powerful humans of Arathor. The elven king Anasterian Sunstrider, a descendant of Dath’Remar, sent out their diplomats to try and negotiate the primitive humans into aiding them. Even though the elves had at times treated the humans no better than they had the trolls, Thoradin saw the danger in allowing the elf civilization to fall, and agreed to an alliance. The elves would teach one hundred humans how to wield the arcane arts of magic, while the massive armies of Strom would mobilize and join the war against the trolls.[11]"

Arathor
Following the defeat of the trolls, the human mages that had been instructed by the high elves eventually chose to leave Strom and found their own nation, Dalaran, dedicated to the study and use of magic. In time, other city-states were founded: Gilneas, Alterac, and Kul Tiras. Much of the nobility decided to move from Strom to the fertile lands of the north, founding Lordaeron, while the heirs of King Thoradin traveled far south to form the kingdom of Stormwind. The few remaining loyal defenders of Strom renamed it Stromgarde thus creating the Kingdom of Stromgarde, a shell of what was left of a once-great empire.[8]

Anduin Lothar
Sir Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Stormwind, was the last true descendant of the ancient Arathi bloodline, a Knight Champion of the Kingdom of Stormwind during the First War,[7] and the Supreme Commander of the armies of the Alliance of Lordaeron during the Second War. He perished in combat at the base of Blackrock Mountain just before the end of the Second War and the closing of the Dark Portal. He is considered one of the greatest warriors in human history.[8] King Varian Wrynn named his son, the current King of Stormwind, after him.”

First War
“The First War (also referred to as the first Great War)[45] was a conflict fought between the orcish clans of Draenor and the humans of the Kingdom of Stormwind.[7]”

Anduin Lothar had no other choice than to declare the war lost[91] and save what remained by gathering the tattered remnants of the army and as many civilians as he could to lead them in a desperate retreat across the Great Sea, toward the northern kingdom of Lordaeron to beseech aid from King Terenas Menethil II.[92”

Second War
“The Second War, also known as the second Great War,[6] was a major conflict that took place in the Eastern Kingdoms around four years following the opening of the Dark Portal,[7] between the armies of the Orcish Horde and an Alliance of several other races. The conflict immediately succeeded the First War and saw the two factions clash for mastery of the entire continent, as well as Azeroth at large.”

“As the Horde further marshaled its strength in the south, the Council of Seven Nations continued in Lordaeron’s Capital City. Those in attendance still found themselves debating a proper response to the orcish threat, as well as the merits of human unity. In attendance were all major rulers of Azeroth’s human nations, including: King Terenas Menethil II of Lordaeron, King Genn Greymane of Gilneas, Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore of Kul Tiras, King Aiden Perenolde of Alterac, Archmage Antonidas of Dalaran, and King Thoras Trollbane of Stromgarde. Also present was Sir Anduin Lothar, representing the recently-ruined Kingdom of Stormwind.”

Aliance of Lordaeron
"The Alliance of Lordaeron (aka Lordaeron Alliance,[1] Great Alliance,[2] Grand Alliance,[3] Human Alliance,[4] or Alliance[5]) was the union of the seven human kingdoms, along with the dwarves of Khaz Modan (which also included the gnomes of Gnomeregan) and Aerie Peak, the high elves of Quel’Thalas, and others with major political influence including the Church of the Holy Light.

Following the destruction of the Kingdom of Stormwind by the Orcish Horde, its survivors fled to Lordaeron. Realizing the threat the orcs posed, Regent Lord Anduin Lothar, leader of Azeroth’s refugees, was able to convince the leaders of the other human kingdoms to join against the orcs. The Wildhammer dwarves of Aerie Peak and high elves also soon joined the Alliance, as well as the gnomes of Gnomeregan and the Ironforge dwarves later in the war."

"Quel’Thalas, the kingdom of the high elves, is located on the northern tip of the continent of Lordaeron, northeast of Stratholme. At the time of the Horde’s approaching invasion of Lordaeron, King Terenas sent emissaries to High King Anasterian Sunstrider and the Convocation of Silvermoon. In it, Terenas mentioned that Lord Lothar was the last descendant of King Thoradin of Arathor. Millennia earlier, during the Troll Wars, the elves had made a pact to aid Thoradin and his descendants, the Arathi. Anasterian, seeking an opportunity to fulfill the Sunstrider dynasty’s debt to Thoradin, grudgingly sent a small force to the Alliance armies stationed in Hillsbrad. The party was led by Alleria Windrunner, a captain in the Silvermoon Ranger Corps.

When the Horde invaded Quel’Thalas and began burning the edges of Eversong Forest, Alleria returned to Silvermoon City to warn of the oncoming Horde and when Anasterian and the Convocation refused to acknowledge the threat, Alleria threw the head of a forest troll at Anasterian’s feet, saying that she and her sister Vereesa had slain the troll near a river not far from Silvermoon. This provoked a reaction from the high king, who had fought against the trolls during the great war millennia earlier, and he ordered the full mobilization of his army to combat the Horde onslaught.

After the Second War, tensions began to arise between the high elven nation and its human allies - humanity came to distance itself from Quel’Thalas; the elven kingdom in turn proving to be an uneasy ally.[18] The tension came to a a head when High King Anasterian Sunstrider seceded - the catalyst that led to both Gilneas and Stromgarde following suit; a turn of events that changed the face of the Alliance and weakened it considerably.[19]"

That’s everything I have pieced together that is as concise as I can get it, but shows the summary of the history. All from WoWpedia with the titles of the articles italicized.
