If no timer, why do we need DPS?

Bring all M+ bosses up to mythic raid levels of intensity. Make all the trash deadly to the point of absurdity. No more of this going in, spamming AoEs for a while, and doing a dungeon boss on steroids. Turn every encounter - every trash mob and every boss - into something crazy. Hell, maybe they could even toss in rares that just roll up and truck your whole group if you aren’t playing absolutely perfectly. This is what I’d like to see.

I’d be perfectly happy to see timers removed if I could get five man content like that.

This is probably the most nonsensical comments I’ve read in a while and just tells me you haven’t played this game very long or at any sort of competitive level in the past.

I can’t with these threads from kids who’ve never played the game prior to the last couple few expansions.

It wouldn’t take 4 hours, a decent tank does half the damage of a decent dps. 1 hour, tops. Far less if each tank pulls a separate pack/boss then brings them all together to AOE down once they have threat on their batch.

Daintily picking through a dungeon to make sure every pull is as safe and separate as possible would take just as long. And Blizzard will go for that too, because they despise fun. The biggest point of fun hatred that has ever existed is multi-pulls for massive AOE damage. They can’t stand it and would prefer to stubbornly drag their heels and not even provide specs the tools to do AOE, because tuning that type of damage is haaaaard boo-hoo.

I’m 61 years young, and I’ve been playing WoW for 15 years. Tell me when we’ve had competitive content where only metric for success was not dying. Raid bosses have timers. M+ has timers. Delves might count, if you tuned them up enough, but delves are already easier on tanks. If we could pull up a list of first 1000 players to complete deathless 11 delve, I expect 90% would be tanks. Unless they make speed of kills a factor of success, DPS will be a liability.

Yah. I don’t want to share score with people that take 4 hours to do a key. Nor, do I wanted to be reported for leaving a four hour key. I can’t believe this is even an argument the community is having. I think we should solve it by adding affixes and timers into delves :imp:

We don’t. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated: 3-4 tanks with a healer or two. Maybe all tanks.

I’m certainly not advocating for 5-tank dungeons as the norm. My point was that removing the need for playing at tempo removes the niche of dps, which is after all the most popular role in the game. There seem to be a lot of players who prefer to play dps, but also don’t want the pressure of a timed environment, when those timers are what justifies their role.

No it doesn’t because nobody but the absolute most extreme of bell curves will take this option just like raid groups dont run 3 tanks for every fight “just in case” 1 of them dies and can’t be bressed.

DPS are there to speed the run up even in a world where low keys lose the timer for a death style pass/fail system, people are STILL going to run normal comps because it’s just efficient and the only time you start to see wonky strats is if it somehow got so brutally hard you basically had to resort to taunt and kite strats or some other degenerate nonsense that’ll certainly get nerfed even if it was mechanically possible to pull off.

Exactly. No timer and limited revives = bring tank/heals only. DPS would end up dying somehow and killing the remaining revives.
