If I Race-Change, will I lose my Trust Levels?

I plan on Race-Changing this character to a Zandalari and I was looking forward to posting on my Zandalari. But I heard that if I race-change this character I will lose my Trust Levels, is this true?

The Race Change service doesn’t change the character ID, which is what the forums reference. I inquired to double check and we’re pretty sure you’ll retain your current trust levels with a Race Change.

Thank you so much! Zandalar Forever!

Sorry, but I forgot to mention I also plan to name-change, does this affect the character ID?

Nope! Only a Character Transfer and Faction Change causes the character to be substantially changed like that.

Race, Name and Appearance Changes are almost entirely cosmetic. Only reputation levels really need to be altered with a Race Change.

Awesome! Thank you!

I was the one discussing this with him in another thread. When you change a characters name, the character doesn’t have the same forum profile anymore. When these forums launched, the character Josee-Area 52 (you can see it) was Bluster-Area 52. When I name changed her, she had a new forum profile, and creating a new character with the name Bluster-Area 52 allowed that new character to pick the old forum profile up, including my old posts. I’ve changed Bluster-Area 52 from many different classes many times observing this. So name changing will absolutely give the new name a different forum profile.

For reference, this character was Bluster-Area 52 when the new forums launched and for a bit after that. The oldest posts in the above characters history were posted by this character. You can see my forum profile on this character has nothing on it now, with the new name, even though it is the same character I originally posted on at forum launch.

Are you certain, Josee? You’re history looks a bit complicated. It looks like you have a Josee that went through a Race Change 1/18/19, though it looks like the name stayed the same, and Bluster did so on 2/21, but the name stayed the same.

I see a name change from Josee to Bluster in November of last year, but only the one.

What would mess with the character ID are the several iterations of when you Faction Changed your Rogue (Josee) back and forth from Human to Blood Elf and back. As recently as 2/12 of this year.

Not to mention Bluster is listed as a Tauren Priest…

You can see that Bluster-Area 52’s posting profile lists it as having visited every day since Nov 8th, on forum launch, yes? But Josee, the character I posted with above, was Bluster-Area 52 at that time. After I name changed the rogue from Bluster to Josee, I lost my entire post history and forum stats.

However, recreating a level 110 trial character with the same name and server picked the forum profile right back up. This would have been a completely different character ID, but it had the same forum profile. In fact, Bluster-Area 52 has not only been that rogue and priest that posted in this thread, but also several 110 trial characters that have been priests, monks and rogues. And each time they pick up the forum profile, posting history, trust level, likes etc… right where I left off when I deleted/renamed the last one.

So the name-server was what seemed to be controlling the forum profile. Not an internal character ID. As I said, I lost the entire history/stats when I name changed the rogue in November, but they were still there when I created a new character with the name, and the old posts even appear as though the new character (now that priest) had posted them.

You may be right, Bluster. I was told it was character ID but it could be based on character name and realm, plus the Account ID. I doubt it is just character name and realm by itself. I’ve sent up some inquiries.

Unfortunately, trying to follow your race, name, faction, transfers, appearance changes and character delete/undelete is more than a little dizzying. I think to fully understand it I’d need a white board with a complicated diagram to follow.

Tiridan, my original answer and how we understood the current system might be wrong. I’ve made some inquiries but it is possible that your trust levels might be lost with the name change. Sorry for the frustration this might cause.

Understandable

Just for the sake of knowing, I went ahead and did a test for you. I made a post on a character to establish a post history - the character had already visited the forums a few days and was first seen on the 24th of January. Here is the post:

Then, I (only) name changed the character. No other service, just name change. This is that character, and you can take a look at the forum profile and see it is trust 0 and this post I am making right now will be its only post. So what I was saying appears to be correct - changing the name-server will give you a new forum profile.

Hope this helps.

I was Tiridan

And just to update this post, I server-changed and race-changed, and did in fact lose my Trust Levels and my Post History.

Thanks for checking back in, Tokali! It’s good to get confirmation.

We have some requests in to make it so that shouldn’t happen. In fact, we want trust levels to be account wide, not character specific, but it will likely take a bit to get it into shape.

Alright. Well, in the meantime I’ll just keep on posting!
