I know you get it now for the other 3 editions of the expansion, but the CE is on a different website that requires special permissions to access my profile and comes with an actual physical package. Thus, the buying experience just feels different.
So, before I drop $185, I want to make sure I will actually have access to Dragonflight now, as opposed to waiting for the CE physical box to arrive.
âPre-purchase² World of Warcraft: The War Within and unlock a slew of benefits to aid you in your coming adventures! All editions include an Enhanced Level 70 Character Boost and the critically-acclaimed Dragonflight expansionÂł. In addition, the Epic Edition also guarantees Beta Access and Early Accessâ´ to The War Within. All in-game items are available immediately unless otherwise noted.â
So, yes. Youâll also have access to DF. Wording sounds like itâll be instantly granted.
Iâm pretty sure in the past the digital key has been sent in the box itself as a code you redeem. The question I think is if, this time, you would get that early and thus be able to redeem it now.
" Redeem the key in the separately provided envelope to access the content. World of Warcraft: The War Within will be available on or before December 31, 2024."
"*** Early Access to World of Warcraft: The War Within may be impacted by shipping dates and subject to change. "
These two quotes make it sound like you wonât get the digital goods until you get the physical box.
I know a lot of people who donât want to wait buy the digital game to get the perks sooner. Once you get the collectors box and redeem it, youâll get a refund of the credit to your blizzard balance.
Iâd want to say the receipt you receive in your email will have a key to use? Granted I havenât bought a physical copy of WoW sinceâŚWrath. Remember going to a late night opening for it.
Iâm 99% certain youâd be able to gain access to DF and previous expansions with the preorder regardless of it being digital or physical though.
EDIT: Oops, just read the edited bit. Yeah, sounds like itâd come with the box although Iâd imagine with a ticket or something youâd probably be able to claim that sooner if needed.
Iâm fairly confident that is not something that has ever been done. You get reimbursed for buying the collectors edition if you also buy digital. Thatâs all. They canât grant you access via ticket as they would not have the game code from that purchase. If they gave you access, youâd then have a essentially free epic edition to give to anyone.
The key is in the box and Blizzard has consistently scheduled the delivery of the Collectorâs Edition for the day of release, so you wonât have early access before release day because you wonât have the key before release day.
Buying the physical Collectorâs Edition doesnât grant access to the Dragonflight expansion, at least not from what I can see of the product page. That is currently only included with the digital purchase on our shop (the idea being to allow access to Dragonflight if you donât have it already).
Traditionally, when an expansion is released the content from the previous expansion is added to the base copy of the game. For example, when Dragonflight was released all accounts received access to Shadowlands content regardless of if they purchased it or not.
As far as I know, there is no email sent when you purchase the Collectorâs Edition that includes a key of any kind. The key should be in the physical box that should arrive around when the War Within launches.
The actual answer from Customer Support:
âAll items included with The War Within Collectorâs Edition are not available until you receive your order which wonât be shipped until December 2024.â
So, no, it does not get granted now.
That said, to the Blue post that seems to try to say that CE doesnât come with Dragonflight at allâŚ
From the CE product page:
" * World Of Warcraft: The War Within Epic Edition Game Key"
From the other editions Compare section:
âWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightâ is checked in all the columns, including the Epic Edition column.
Though if you had read the second part of Vrakâs first paragraph:
As the Epic key in the CE is the same as the digital key available right now, you are both saying the same thing. Vrak just went a bit further to indicate that it isnât an extra perk of purchasing the CE.
To answer your original question, unless they start emailing those keys shortly after purchases have been batched, then your DF access will start when you receive the CE and apply the code to your account.
The redeemable key is in the box. You have to wait until it ships, which is typically shortly before the game releases. This is of course subject to change between now and the end of the year.
Source: Iâve bought every physical CE since wotlk and in recent years itâs arrived between a few days to a few weeks ahead of release.
Basically, if you buy the collectorâs edition, you have to buy the digital Epic edition as well, but only if you want to play Dragonflight right now or get the pre-order bonuses now, and then they will refund you once you get your collectorâs edition and put in that code.
Historically, all of the following comments are correct.
Reimbursement will be in battle.net balance.
Source: I own every CE.
See: *** Early Access to World of Warcraft: The War Within may be impacted by shipping dates and subject to change. Early Access duration is 3 days. Limited time only. Play time subject to possible outages and time zone differences. Certain endgame features, including Mythic dungeons and weekly quests, not available during Early Access.
I have TWW:CE on order. No such code received, and none in memory for prior CEs.
I expect Blizzard to attempt to deliver the CE a few days early, and that I will enter the code, and I will then have a few days of early access. Typically my CE have arrived prior to E-Day, but of course Blizzard cannot be responsible for volcanos, attacks by Godzilla, or the wild and varied jams of [flipflip] Taylor Swift.
