I love how people complain about borrowed powers, but every tier set and trinket is a borrowed power. What I think people really want is more class/spec specific power (borrowed or swapped out as expansions change is fine). Azerite armor for example. The best ones didn’t change anything about your character, it was either a straight damage boost to an ability which is “rank +1” to the spell/ability basically or it was a generic stat boost that wasn’t unique to your character all. Thus it wasn’t well received. But if you had a few different options to choose from that changed what your character did, like expansion-only talent points then it’d be a lot more fun.
Tier changes how you play. Some trinkets change how you play. That’s what a borrowed system should do. But it also should be unique to that class/spec not generic to the role or just boring stat bumps.
And again, its obvious I’m talking about older tier sets, not these new ones that are shaped by their modern design philosophy. Remember that thing I said about trying to seem clever without making a salient point?
they went bonkers in burrowed power garbage gating and everything since legion keeps getting worse. i can’t believe the CC is in here bringing up cloaks in mop or rings. everything in shadowlands and burrowed power is just flat annoying and not fun why i keep unsubbing. sure past expansions had burrowed power but they be going nuts nowadays. i flat out ain’t buying unless something changes or just play wrath if nothing changes i ain’t completely braindead i played all the expansions and what shadowlands is is just garbage.
only one that was accurate was that borrowed power systems are guaranteed to come back because we still have the current team and management in charge of the next xpac. Microsoft won’t implement any changes til late in that xpac or the following xpac.
Down with borrowed power! Remove stats from gear! If your character wants more stamina you have to earn it by doing an hour of cardio dailies 3 times a week.
This moronic point has already been addressed in this thread. But please, have fun posting the same stupid post that twelve other blizzard simps have posted before you.
You really haven’t addressed anything. Anything that isn’t directly from your character and is from an external source is technically borrowed. The intelligence of Tony Stark is innate, his ability to fly is borrowed.
What you are really whining about and were too lazy to articulate is blizzards work around for skill and ability bloat and balance headaches by adding and removing class specific abilities each expansion and the sort of recent addition of post level cap power progression systems.
While I think it’s an imperfect solution, rotating new abilities in and out helps keep classes from getting stale. Sometimes the changes are good, sometimes bad but to me it is better than stagnation.
The end game progression systems give something for players to work on over the course of an expansion and I’ll take it over going back to end game being nothing other than waiting around for the next tier to refarm all my gear over but at a higher ilvl.
I’m pretty tired of stuff just stopping working. The last two expansions went the wrong direction with these temporary powers. I want my character to learn improved powers. This whole covenant thing is pretty lame IMO. They could expand talents instead of fitting us with gear that will eventually become useless. I’m also tired of things like enchants, potions, etc., becoming unusable at certain levels.
Dragonflight…! of the grounded you see because flight is subjective.
Although to touch base on what OP said: it will have borrowed power, no and’s ifs or what about it. Though Legion I still feel did it right, they should bring back Artifacts somehow and just expand on that system, It worked well, it could work well again with just tweaks and fine tuning.
Though for mount I would like: Ground mounts clearly can work anyplace but are “most useful” for deep, dark, dank cave type settings, underground will be 100% ground mounts with NO FLYING at all.
Land you will have access to flying/ground but flying comes with risk: Think the Zereth mortis winged things that throw spears at you to knock you out the air or the BFA space worms that slow you down. Yes you can fly right out the gate of the EXP: but it is risky vs reward and you can unlock systems/powers to bypass these things/do mount air combat. Make flying interesting, as see below for more on that.
I also hope there are “air/sky islands” for us to explore and give us more of a reason to fly rather then flying is a means to by pass point A to B, give us a reason to explore the sky as much as the ground.
Uh, no. We stopped getting spell ranks in Cataclysm I believe. In WoD you got bonuses to existing abilities that Blizzard just didn’t want to keep doing. They could have added talent rows like they used to do. There were a lot of things they could have done vs just bombarding everyone with tons of passives effects that go away.
Make no mistake, this is not done for our benefit, this is solely due to laziness and because this allows them to repackage the same crap and sell it to us again while making us grind it out again to puff up MAUs while also avoiding designing classes that actually work baseline so they can make them feel like they should with passives you keep having to earn again and again.
There’s a stark contrast between something being decent, but eventually replaced because you have better available to you and something going away because expansion ended. You outgrow those powers, these are ones you arbitrarily lose. Shadowcraft in Classic for rogues is a prime example. That energy proc is insane when it works in your favor. However you replace it because other pieces of gear are just more consistent and better for output.
Also early on no tier set completed your class that you couldn’t just not have it, that’s become an issue later in the game because of ineptitude by Blizzard. Like Outlaw’s 4piece in Antorus made the spec actually bearable to play as either SnD or RTB. They used to accentuate what you were already doing and make it better. They didn’t revolutionize your gameplay.
Not in any single area. But I think they can all be active in their respective areas.
If you go back to bfa zones and instances - you get to use your neck, cloak, essences and corruption.
If you go back to legion, you get your artifacts, tier bonuses, and relics.
The only adjustment would be to make some of these key items “summonable” like how heirlooms work. Luckily we play a fantasy role playing game where that makes sense.
Posting here to announce my disdain for borrowed power. Though in my case I’ll just come back during the final patch and laugh as all the catch up systems fast track me through all the grind and chores people spent a year doing
