You’re generalizing the term to the point of uselessness.
Borrowed power refers to systems that are discarded entirely. Discarding gear is no more “borrowed power” than “discarding” Rank 1 of Flame Shock when I learned Rank 2. That’s RPG character progression in a nutshell. You were engaging in the same “power” system at level 1 that you were at 120 or are at 60. Nothing about this is temporary or “borrowed.”
Gearing would only qualify as “borrowed power” if itemization as a whole was reinvented every expansion.
What will you do instead? We all know deep down we are going to have barrowed power.
some people like borrowed powers
(night fae soulshape FTW, pretty much all my characters are NF regardless how good the NF covenant ability is)
and the system itself i think is fine, the problem is all systems get invalidated by “THE META”.
the obsession with the best possible dps even if another build is say 2% worse with the same everything is whats ruining the game for you.
yes there isn’t perfect balance atm, and in a RPG there never will be, but everyone has a spot where they can shine.
TIER SETS ARE A BORROWED POWER SYSTEM BTW, just less complicated, and no story/rewards/mounts/etc…
I certainly hope they don’t have borrowed power. We need to be able to play at the gate of max level, not be hurdled by a power system that everyone is already far ahead by miles.
Rpg’s already have gear systems for such things anyways.
Why borrow that power, though?
I like Soulshape, too. And all the time and effort that went into developing it will be thrown in the trash with 10.0. That’s what people dislike.
game is constantly changing… I miss permanent doomguard for demo warlocks.
blizzard might have something very similar going forward who knows, but i am enjoying for now, but not liking something not staying forever is very different then saying the entire system sucks also.
In my book, they suck because they waste resources and do not reward long-term investment. In a vacuum? They’re generally great. But they do not exist in a vacuum.
I like farming gear and mounts because I can carry those cosmetics forward with me. I liked artifacts, too, because of this. But did the Heart of Azeroth carry anything over? Will Covenants and Conduits? No. So I have no drive to engage with these systems.
Therefore, if we get a similar system announced for Dragonflight, not bringing anything to the game itself but solely the expansion, I will be just as underwhelmed as I was when Shadowlands was announced. But I won’t buy it this time “just to check it out.”
Legion was great. Then they rested on their laurels with BfA and just milked the model further with SL.
As they say, “Fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can’t get fooled again.”
I’m with you, lest hope the copy-paste team gets laid off next expansion.
The systems themselves aren’t the issue. It’s the terrible implementation of them. Making them overly grindy with far too much gating early on, then finally opening them up 2 patches later to how they should have been at launch.
It’s just getting rather exhausting waiting a year to actually start enjoying an expansion. The initial “oooh, aaah” is always the same, but once you’re settled in, it gets old fast when you realize nothing changed from the previous expac.
Here’s hoping they learn. Some day.
Is your MOP set bonus not discarded enitrely and useless in WOD.
Set bonuses and itemization as a system still exist regardless. This is not a difficult distinction to make.
Of course it will have borrowed power. Hasn’t every expansion been about borrowed power? Which tier set from lk do you still use?
Do you think they are going to just dump the system now? Don’t over think it….
Every expansion had some sort of borrowed power. What makes this one different?
Guess it’ll Drag-ON, eh?
You’re banished to 100 days of maw dailies
It will have borrowed power.
Personally, I will still want to play the game. But you do you
I don’t think that’s a checkmate, you’re both probably going to be sorely disappointed. There will be a system, and it will be garbage.
MoP leveled out at like 7 or 8 million subscribers, back when Blizz was still proud to report such things. They would kill for those numbers in SL.
They touted something like 5 million day 1 sales for SL (probably the highest it got), and we all know there’s a huge drop off afterwards, as well as the end of the expansion which looks to be a long time.
Do you honestly believe Vanilla - WoD is the same system as Legion - SL?
i love the people in here claiming there’s always been borrowed power blah blah blah. knowing they just went completely bonkers with legion and on and then they act like there never was difference. everyone knew the differences when they released the expac notes for legion in wod and their was tons of people complaining about it saying garbage and guess what it’s been proven garbage after 3 expansions.
