If Blizzard wants to split High Elves between the factions, Void Elves need more work

I hesitate to even say I’m asking for racial buffs for Void Elves, so much as just a general re-assessment to make them a useful race for non-casters, because right now, I think they’re one of the worst options in the game.

For a race with so much potential popularity, the mechanical side of Velfs do them no service at all.

Yep, and there are multiple pulls in Kings Rest that also are trivialized by it. Putting Mass Dispel, an ability only priests get, on a racial, is bonkers broken. It shows on the Arena ladder, it shows in the MDI, it shows in every possible metric.

They will always argue that Shadowmeld is better. And it probably is… at the very highest ranks where situational awareness and split-second reactions can be the difference between a kill and a wipe.
Meanwhile Arcane Torrent can be used by any simpleton at any level and gain huge value out of it.

That’s fair, and I wouldn’t really mind a re-assessment at some point (and to be honest, start of an expansion would be the time for racial tweaks so hey).

I’ll admit that it feels kind of confused design-wise that they seem to have an “ez-mode” racial in Embrace (in the sense that you never actually have to think about it or actively do anything to make use of it), paired with a racial that you have to think and plan for a LOT before using for it to even be worthwhile in Rift (it may actually be one of if not the hardest racials to use effectively in the game right now).

Just leave my transmog racial alone and we’re fine. :stuck_out_tongue:

Shadowmeld is mediocre at best unless you’re running a stacked Night Elf/Rogue group, which is not the case 99.999999999% of times. MDI tournament realms are really the only place where it’s a reasonable expectation for Shadowmeld to be effective.

Torrent is just a value add to every class in the game.

For sure, and I agree. Embrace just feels strange to play with, sometimes it does a TON of damage, and sometimes it’s absolutely useless, it just feels kinda bad to play with. And sure you can track the iCD for it, and maybe bank a bit of resources for it, but not all classes have that luxury. Some classes need to pull the trigger with or without fishing for an Embrace proc, and that’s where the racial really shows its main flaw, which is lack of control.

Rift is great. I’m critical of the gap in potential it has when you compare its value on a Lock to a Rogue, or something like that, but it’s okay if not every ability is totally 100% optimized for every class. Entropic Embrace is the piece that needs dialed in, I think. Rift is a lot of fun to use.

Nightborne would like a word. You can reach them through their mailbox on a 10 minute cooldown.

Oh, for sure. I love actively looking for places to use my Rift racial. I wish it was maybe a hair faster, but like I said, if it remains completely intact as-is I’ll be just fine with that.

Mostly just musing on the weird dichotomy it seems to have with Embrace from a design perspective.

I race changed my DK from Worgen to VE. And while I don’t regret my decision (look at me, I’m a glorious queen of evil and death: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/u/Erandis-quelthalas) I do miss the extra sprint.
Moreso, I haven’t used rift, not even once. And I don’t recall any scenario where I thought “It would’ve gone better had I used rift”.

You can throw it out, get a couple hardcasts off, and you can take it, which ultimately makes it a lot better than Darkflight for a Warlock if you use it right, but it needs premeditated use.

your assumption is that blizzard ‘wanted’ to give us access to high elves at all. which they very clearly and obviously did not. this is a compromise to make the complainers happy, and yet as this very thread shows, its done nothing but make them even more entitled.
its like a spoiled child at christmas throwing a tantrum because they didn’t get the exact color of car they wanted… just take your damn helfs and be happy you got anything at all.

Edited, forgot to mention it was a DK.

oooh, sure, that makes sense.

I innitially though Velf would be a lot better on DK, because of Frost and Unholy’s mastery, and the mobility, but I’m with you, for DK, Worgen seems a bit better. 1% crit seems more reliable than Entropic Embrace, and Darkflight lets you attack on the move.

I opened the expansion on a Void Elf Warrior and ended up finding myself in a position where I rarely used Shift outside of PvP (Leap is faster and also jukes ground effects at the apex of the jump), and I found myself frustrated at Embrace popping outside of Smash windows. The whole VE racial kit feels very weak on melee.

Or they can add them to lightforged to add more diversity in the army of the light.

Yes, yes, Lightforged Void Elves. Very lore friendly.

Lightforged high elves from the silver covenent. Not lightforged void elves. Get your head straight!

Soooo, Blood Elves? They’re kind of been sipping on the Holy Sunwell to soothe their crippling crac- err “Arcane” addiction for a while now.

No. Not blood elves, they evolved past being high elves. We want silver covenent!

I mean, great and all, but what does that have to do with the Void Elf racials?

I suppose both races have trash racials.

The watery domes are interruptible.

I guess it’s the “hardest pull in the dungeon” because Alliance players don’t know how to interrupt?

It’s a short cast, 2 of them go out at once, if you miss it, it adds many seconds to your pull.

Horde side can let the casts go off and use one of their average 3.5 blood elves per dungeon group to dispel, without co-ordination or effort, while putting interupts on the Salt Blasts instead of needing dedicated coms to stop the shield.

Even if you can interrupt the cast, that doesn’t mean it’s not infinitely harder to deal with.
