If Blizz lost 70% of it's customers

Blizz has already lost that many subs, however, it is the microtransactions that keep wow alive. They don’t care how many they loose, to an extent, as long as they have enough white knighters to suck dry. They will keep pushing out subpar, cheap content to keep the sheep happy and spending money.

Not hopetiticall. I am going to play new world, and the riot when they come out and for sure move to guild wars 3.
Leaving this old and obsolete engine. With terrible lag at pvp. And that they refuse to move forward.
I am here because I play with my brother.

They would put in player housing. Discount Character services by 75%. And give all 6mo subscription plans, a new mount and a couple high rez tmog sets and an additional free month at the end of their 6mo sub.

Well, I bet the game would get a lot better.

For starters, I bet the would merge factions so the game would feel like it had more players.

Then they would probably connect all servers so all zones would seem like they have a ton of players in them.

I doubt you would see any serious efforts to change current content, but the players who enjoy Shadowlands and stick around will get more of what they enjoy making the community better

They would still make close to $14M a month.

So yeah, nothing drastic. Maybe few more store pets and mounts.

Why do they care about a time played metric when a time played metric for WoW is not reported to investors?

A million subs a month is still roughly $15 mill a month/$180 mill a year. They would not do anything.

If they have not already lost 70% of those who bought SL, it will soon hit that.

9.1 won’t bring most people back because it is still SL and is more of the same that players didn’t like. People will either go play other games or give BC a try. Some will stick with BC, but some won’t. It doesn’t have the buzz of classic. I adored BC but I’m not going to play it again.

I don’t hate Blizzard or WoW. I’m not saying this because I am happy things are bad. I’m just realistic. Things are bad. Denying it is what keeps things from ever imrpoving.

That has nothing to do with what is reported to investors. A for effort though.

People unironically thinking WoW is in maintenance mode is kind of funny and depressing.

I can say with nearly 100% confidence that they’d go into an all out milking frenzy.

They’d try to get every last penny out of the die-hard fanboys because they know those people just can’t say no to them.

And they’d be successful sadly. :joy:

If? I don’t think that’s as much of a hypothetical as one might think. I think the better question would be what would Blizzard do if the 70% they lost didn’t come back for 9.1 or 10.0. It’s not uncommon for players to stop playing after a patch drops once they’ve accomplished what they want or get bored or frustrated with game design and decisions. And the 9.0 to 9.1 content drought is the longest one from launch to the first patch, so it’s not surprising there have been a massive dip in players. If Blizzard can get those players back for 9.1 though I think they’ll be fine and nothing will change, including the direction the current dev team wants to take the game.

Which is idiotic because it sets up a feedback loop.

  1. The devs make an activity feel mandatory if players want to progress.
  2. Players do the activity EVEN IF THEY DISLIKE IT.
  3. The dev team says that a lot of players are doing that activity so it’s popular.
  4. So they make more activities like that.
  5. Players are unhappy.
  6. Devs mock the players and say they don’t know what they want because, look, the numbers say this type of game-play is popular!

It’s like saying that my son liked shoveling snow because he shoveled snow. He didn’t like shoveling snow! He had to shovel snow to get his allowance. He liked MONEY. And there were kinds of chores he vastly preferred to shoveling snow, but I got to choose what he got paid for. (The big difference, of course is that WoW isn’t paying us to do what we don’t like. We are paying them to make us do what we don’t like. lol.)

Okay so WoW and Hearthstone are pretty much the only games bringing in money (and Hearthstone is not what it used to be). Maybe Overwatch still has some players buying things? It can’t be much.

Blizzard has a big building with utilities and upkeep and insurance costs. They have many employees who have salaries and benefits. The medical insurance alone is a killer. They have offices in other places to pay for. They have servers to keep going and upgrade. They have A LOT of expenses.

180 million a year probably barely covers Elon Musk’s new yacht and crew (he has to want one bigger than Bezos.

It has more to do with the people that dislike certain activities try to make the most noise about things they dislike. Most of the WoW systems are optional or only need to be grinded to a certain point than you’re free to do what you want after.

There should be reasonable expectations on what a player has to do to reach a certain endgame goal… and it’s at the point where you only have to log on and run one M+ 14/15 dungeon to get your GV.

Blizzard is just full of itself egotistically.

Anything to increase the bottom line. Layoffs, giving already underpaid workers wage cuts, more micro transactions, more store mounts, maybe even raise the sub fee to $20. Higher costs for boosts, ect.

Basically milk the remaining players dry and get whatever they can out of the whales before the game dies and then they develop a new game(Maybe mobile),

This is something that a company can only do for so long without causing major damage.

And when the company realizes that they’ve let go too many it takes years to get somebody up to par when they start to hire again.
