Everything we cried foul about years ago regarding the uber religious right wing (not saying all the right wing is bad) has now become part of the modern democratic party and its platform of intolerance.
I have never met a more intolerant group of people in my life as the modern socialist democrats. I find it abhorrent that the democratic party has stooped so low as to accept authoritarian socialists into our ranks and then push the decent folks in the democratic party out…
Why did this happen? Greed and lack of morality at the top; they want to get elected and they will do literally anything to get there… That sickens me, because again this is literally everything we said about the republicans years ago, and here we are drowning in in this disaster of a lynch mob society.
We use to champion free speech, now my party condemns it.
We use to champion equality, now we champion special rights.
We use to champion justice, honestly, truth and facts… Now we build on a foundation of lies…
Seriously I think I am the only actual democrat and liberal left in the united states that actually values freedom and justice.

The thing I see about the free speech is like… if what someone is saying is so bad then let them say it… If it is truly very bad people will condemn them. But too many people these days want to silence anything that offends them and say its to protect free speech.

One problem is that this makes people into martyrs and if people can’t express themselves it let’s there negative idea’s fester and become worse, and have a following this is already proven.

Actually it’s very much the inverse of that. The people who are complaining about everything will ultimately be all that’s left / in charge of the game because they are hyper sensitive to free speech.
The ultra conservative authoritarian right wing was formerly guilty of this; and now days we don’t hear a lot from them any more because they were WRONG!
Guess what, the authoritarian ultra left wing is also WRONG and those of us true liberals will some how defeat them too.
The thing that made World of WarCraft so darn good was the fact that it was a living breathing society that embraced all the kinds of freedom that one would enjoy in the free world.
Activision took over blizzard and now the freedom loving people who use to run the show are no longer in place.

Honestly, less toxic trolls the better. Whether it be auto-silence or those trolls refusing to play because they might get actioned against. It’s a win-win scenario for everyone else involved.

So how small a portion of the population has to do it to make it ok that people are being squelched wrongfully by the lynch mob system? My personal opinion is that number would have to be zero. Since we can prove just from using posters in this thread as examples that the portion of the population who will wrongfully report people is non-zero the system is fundamentally flawed.

If the right click report system was tied to an auto ignore so that when you report a player, you also ignore them and a target report number would “flag” the reported player’s account for review ASAP, would that be acceptable to you?
OR
Are you insistent that the report system be tied to an auto squelch? If so, why are you insistent that you be given the power to collude with your friends, guild mates and/or other players to squelch any other player for any little slight you felt that you had to suffer, even if that player never broke any rules?

Look, the fact of the matter is that while squelching may be a good idea on paper… Well, it forgot the factor of human fallibility. If there are any loop holes in a system that is widely used, rest assured those loopholes or exploits will be abused. Maybe not by many, but the point is that those systems shouldn’t be exploitable in the first place.
Blizzards report and actioning system IS automated, Asmongold proved as much in a few of his videos. It would require a massive team of GMs with a game as large as this to be able to respond to such tickets or reports fast enough without automation; this kind of team would cost a lot of money each year if you were paying them reasonable salaries (Assuming they were full time workers and not contractors, and contractors are becoming increasingly more common in the industry.).
So, with squelching, the problem is that the internet is the land of butthurt people. What Blizzard should do is classify exactly what “Disruptive or harassing chat behavior” is in DEFINED TERMS, not vague buzzwords like they did. Hard definitions of it would leave little wiggle room for rules-lawyering.
Squelching can be a good feature, but they need to give hard definitions on what it can be used for, and examples for each sort of use-case…
Let’s say that 30 different people tell 30 different Chuck Norris jokes in chat, filling up your chat screen. Each person only posted ONE message in chat.
You’re going to report 30 people for spam, even though not one of them posted more than ONE message to chat? Where’s the “spam”? Who’s the “spammer”? How can anyone who only posts one message to chat eve begin to be considered to be “spamming”?

Totally agree. Drag the extremists into the light for all to see and let their own words be their undoing. Pushing them out of sight and deplatforming any dissent just makes it easier for them to blend in.

Apparently mass layoffs being announced next Tuesday. RCReport and Loot Trading are in stone now. Not that they weren’t already… but its even more clear now that these are cost cutting measures wholesale. So if those were dealbreakers for you, I would say its pretty safe to stop following the development of classic. Because the alternatives to those two additions are just simply a higher number of competent GM’s assigned to the classic servers (because Blizzard will not ever consider the -no moderation, deal with it- approach) and that costs money.
So I guess that’s a wrap on that.
